Welcome to the Fall edition of Soundings Magazine! It is with great pleasure that we prepare for our first in-person Annual General Meeting on December 2nd, in New Orleans, LA, in conjunction with the WorkBoat Show since 2019. It has been a challenging period for all of our members, but we have persevered and look forward to celebrating soon. We encourage all members to attend and, for those who are unable to travel to New Orleans, please join us virtually. You can register for this hybrid meeting at American Salvage Association 2021 Annual Meeting (constantcontact. com) . In this final quarter the ASA Executive committee and the General Members will be holding our second annual two-day strategic planning meeting and look forward to sharing our discussions at our AGM.
In this issue of Sounding’s Magazine, you will find an article on how our members protect the environment through the work they do in the salvage industry, a topic that is most important to the global shipping community and the world. You will learn from Ty Letner how we prevent and protect our US waters from oil spills. In addition, as our members continue to respond in the U.S., Central and South America as well as globally, you will find member news and updates. You will also see new member Shore Offshore in our new member highlight. Please remember to send all member news and updates to ASAMCC@AmericanSalvage.org
During the summer, the ASA Training committee successfully hosted two in person Salvage Courses that were a big success. In Mobile, Alabama a three-day fast-paced agenda welcomed over 50 USCG attendees and various ASA members who participated in leading and presenting this course. In Alameda, California, the three-day course welcomed speakers form both the USCG and ASA and included over 55 USCG attendees. We thank the USCG for attending our training exercises and a special thank you to Kerry Walsh, Aaron Jozsef, and Jim Elliott for their efforts in organizing these courses and presenting. Later this Fall, we will be hosting our biannual Quality Partnership meeting with the ASA leadership and our regulatory partners USCG, SUPSALV, NOAA, USCG SERT and BSSEE. have access to member news, updates, events, our membership’s equipment locations for faster response and of course more information on who we are.
The ASA has also welcomed former Executive Committee member, Mrs. Nadja Knoulton, Laredo Construction to the position of Secretary Treasurer, where Nadja will sit for two years and assist with conference planning meeting notes and various other leadership activities. We are proud to see Nadja advance within the ASA and are proud to have her and Laredo as members.
We encourage you to continue to contribute to Soundings Magazine and extend work opportunities to your fellow members within the organization.
I hope to see you all at the ASA Annual General Meeting on December 2nd, and we thank you for being a part of the American Salvage Association and our extended community.
Stay safe, and stay the course,
