Southgate’s Got Christmas Yes, January is still in the twelve days of Christmas! On the first Saturday in Advent, this now well established event started the festive season with a bang. People from the local community crowded into the Centre for a free afternoon of games, crafts, puppet shows, music songs, and baton twirling. Hardwick Pre-School choir wowed everyone with some seasonal songs. Nativity characters were dotted around the Hall giving out tree decorations for an envelope which turned into Jesus’ stable. Santa saw a record number of children too, accompanied by one of his elves. Southgate Church is delighted to provide this event for local families to meet together in the build up to Christmas. Thank you to Alison and her team of volunteers who made it all possible.

Bury St. Edmunds

CRICKET CLUB

Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club held their Annual General Meeting in December and have elected two new captains, Ben Seabrook who had a First Class contract until 2017 with Durham has accepted the role of first team captain he is a very talented young all round player who made a significant contribution in his first season these included a debut 104 not out against Horsford scoring almost 500 runs at an average of around 30. Sean Park who has been captain for a few years will continue to play when school commitments permit and will support Ben in his new role.

Tom Curran takes over from Ben Whittaker as 2nd team captain, Tom has played all his cricket at Bury St Edmunds and was a key member of the team that won promotion to Division 2 of the Two counties League last season. Promotion is important as the gap between the 1st team playing in the East Anglian Premier League is now that much closer.

We reported earlier that Daniel Moriarty after discussions with Alex Stewart has secured a contract with Surrey, this is a terrific step for this promising young player it will be a loss to Bury St Edmunds but for the right reason. The other young player who joined from South Africa in 2019 Justin Broad has been given a contract by the MCC Young Cricketers and will continue to play for the club.

Indoor nets at the Victory Ground Sports Centre operated by South Lee School will commence after Christmas this will provide coaching and playing for young players boys and girls as well as ladies and senior players of all abilities.

Romantic Swan at Lavenham Hotel plans four Wedding Open Days Brides-to-be can explore the romance of the 15th century Swan at Lavenham Hotel and Spa at four Wedding Open Days in 2020. The stunning historic venue will be dressed for a wedding on Sunday 26 January, 8 March, 19 April and 1 November.
