Pomegranate Mimosa

Pomegranate Mimosas look so festive for Valentine’s Day! They are super easy to whip together and are tasty and delicious.

Ingredients:

1 pint Pomegranate Juice 1 bottle sparkling wine Garnish: pomegranate seeds

Method

Gather the ingredients.

Combine the pomegranate juice and sparkling wine in a large pitcher.

Pour the mixture into champagne glasses and garnish with pomegranate seeds.

Rib-eye steaks

Recipe

with chilli butter & homemade chips Make your loved one a Valentine’s Day feast with fail-safe steak and homemade chunky chips

Ingredients:

1 tbsp finely chopped parsley 50g butter, softened, plus a little extra 1 red chilli, finely chopped Juice and zest ½ lemon olive oil 2 x 200g rib-eye steaks, seasoned Broccolli For the chips: 450g floury potatoes, such as Estima, King Edward or Maris Piper, peeled and cut into chunky chips 2 tbsp olive oil 1 tsp thyme leaves 1 garlic clove, crushed

Method

For the chilli butter, mash the parsley into the butter with the chilli, a squeeze of lemon juice, the zest and some seasoning. Chill until firm.

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.

For the chips, toss all the ingredients on a baking tray, then season. Roast for 35-45 mins until golden and crisp.

Heat a good glug of oil in a frying pan. Add the extra butter and the seasoned steaks, fry for 2-4 mins on each side, then transfer to plates.

Toss the leaves with olive oil and lemon juice. Divide between the plates, add the chips and top each steak with a piece of chilli butter.

People on housing waiting list will need to re-register People on the housing register in Forest Heath and St Edmundsbury, are being advised that they will need to re-register next month.

West Suffolk councils has emailed all 2500 people on its housing register to tell them about changes that are coming into effect.

Councils across the Cambridge SubRegion including Forest Heath and St Edmundsbury are changing IT provider for the database it uses for its choice based letting scheme, Home-Link. This is because a contract with another IT supplier is coming to an end.

Cllr Sara Mildmay-White said: “From February 1 2019, if people in the Forest Heath and St Edmundsbury areas wish to remain on the housing register and to continue to bid for properties, then they will need to re-register. They must do this by 28 February to ensure they remain on the housing register from 1 April.”

The new register will come into effect from 1 April 2019. As this is a new provider the Council can’t simply transfer the data held from one provider to another. If people haven’t re-registered and their application hasn’t been verified by this date, they may lose their place 52 | FEBRUARY 2019

on the housing register and may not be able to bid for properties. West Suffolk councils can only assure that people who re-registered by 28 February will be verified in time for the 1 April switchover.

The Council is also talking to local partners including the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Registered Providers including Havebury Housing Partnership and Flagship Homes, so they understand the implications of the changes and can provide advice as appropriate.

The change in IT supplier does not change how priority banding is decided because the Home-link scheme itself remains unchanged. People will still be assessed in line with the existing housing policy. It is only if there has been a change in their circumstances that their banding may change up or down.

The change of system will also ensure that the information that is held is up-todate and reflects people’s housing needs and priority.

On Monday lunchtimes we bring Rock Solid to Hardwick Primary, with games, crafts and Bible teaching.

Wednesday Gang also now happens in the school on lunchtimes with the same mix of fun games and teaching that used to happen after school in the Church Centre.

We would love to welcome you to any of our Sunday Services and Sunday Club for young people, or to any of the groups in the Church Centre. Looking ahead, we anticipate appointing a new Minister later this year. But more importantly we continue, as church, to put our faith in God who tells us: “I know the plans I have for you…. plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah: 9 v 11.

FILM REVIEWS STAN & OLLIE Reviewed by Sally Walters

Stan & Ollie is a great tribute to Laurel and Hardy. I still remember my Dad making us watch the black and white short films on the telly when we only had the 3 channels, although never laugh out loud, we would watch with a grin. This film tugs at the emotions throughout. With beautiful performances

by Steve Coogan (as Stan Laurel) and John C Reilly (as Oliver Hardy), it is a film about friendship and loyalty as much as a comedy.

Showing us the strange process through which the two comedians, in their private lives and dealings with one another, became identical to the characters they played on screen.

The film starts on set in Hollywood in 1937, reminding us all that Laurel and Hardy were the biggest comedy stars in the world. In a single shot, the duo in their bowler hats and braces are walking from dressing rooms to sound stages. Everybody loves them.

But Stan is angry that they are paid far less than the likes of Harold Lloyd and falls out with their manager, his contract ends but Ollie has to see his contract out and in doing so, has to work on a new film with another actor playing Stans part. This causes a rift, and fast forwarding 16 years on, the film then follows Stan and Ollie reunited on their tour of Britain in 1953, very late in their careers. As they travel from Newcastle to Glasgow, they play half-empty halls and stay in cheap hotels. Their new promoter Bernie Delfont (played by Rufus Jones) is far more interested in boosting new client Norman Wisdom than in helping old-timers like Laurel and Hardy. Their wifes join them later on when they reach London, and they don’t get along too well either. Ollies health deteriorates later in the tour and they end up having to call a day, but not without one last performance, their last in fact together.

A really lovely film which Reilly and Coogan brilliantly capture the physical mannerisms and verbal tics of their characters.
