WELCOME

Welcome to the latest edition, where we share updates from across MEOX and the partnerships we’re proud to support.

A key highlight in this edition is our award of Platinum Supplier Status by Dennis Eagle, a leading OEM in the UK, manufacturing over 85% of the refuse collection vehicles supplied to the UK market. It’s an achievement we’re proud of, and one that reflects the standards we aim to deliver every day – consistent delivery, dependable quality, and close technical collaboration.

Over recent months, our focus has been on strengthening these fundamentals across the business, ensuring we continue to support our customers reliably as demand grows.

We’re also seeing a growing number of OEMs reviewing the long-term performance of their hydraulic systems, with a clear focus on reducing cost, improving efficiency, and ensuring reliability in demanding applications. With products validated to over 1 million impulse cycles, alongside strong UK stockholding and production capability, we’re able to collaborate with both new and existing customers to help them see these visions come true.

Alongside this, we’ve made three key appointments to strengthen the team supporting our customers, one of which being Chris Huffen, a critical appointment who has joined as Group Performance Director, bringing a strong focus on effective growth and ensuring customer engagement is kept at the forefront of business priorities.

In this edition, we share more about our partnership with Dennis Eagle and the work behind this recognition — a practical example of how close cooperation between OEM and supplier can deliver consistent performance and long-term value.

As the business continues to grow, we remain focused on doing the basics well and maintaining the standards our customers expect.

If you’re reviewing your current hydraulic supply or looking to improve performance, we’d be pleased to start a conversation.

HYDRAULIC HOSE PERFORMANCE IN REFUSE COLLECTION VEHICLES

Project Overview

Refuse collection vehicles operate in demanding municipal environments where hydraulic systems work continuously throughout the day. From bin lifts and compaction systems to body tipping functions, hydraulic hoses play a critical role in maintaining safe and reliable vehicle operation.

These vehicles typically operate in stop-start urban conditions,

Factors for Consideration

Bend Radius

Hydraulic systems in refuse vehicles are often tightly packaged around lifting arms, compaction rams and articulated mechanisms.

Selecting hose with an appropriate bend radius allows natural flex during operation while avoiding excessive stress within the reinforcement layers. Flexible, compact hose constructions can simplify installation and improve long-term reliability.

creating frequent hydraulic cycling and pressure variation. Combined with exposure to road debris, contamination and harsh weather, this creates a challenging environment for hydraulic components.

Correct hose specification, routing and protection are essential to maximise reliability and service life in these high-duty mobile applications.

Typical considerations include:

Continuous hydraulic cycling during collection routes

High pressure and impulse loads

Exposure to abrasion and contamination

Tight hose routing within compact vehicle structures

Hose Length

Hydraulic hoses naturally expand under pressure and contract when pressure is released. In mobile equipment where movement is constant, correct hose length and routing are essential.

Excess hose can increase the risk of abrasion or snagging, while hoses that are too short may experience tension during operation. Well-designed assemblies allow controlled movement and help reduce premature wear.

Impulse

Refuse collection vehicles can perform thousands of hydraulic cycles during a single route. Each lift or compaction cycle creates impulse pressure spikes that place repeated stress on hose assemblies.

Selecting hose designed for high impulse resistance helps improve durability and reduces fatigue-related failures.

Environment

Municipal vehicles operate in challenging environments where hoses may be exposed to:

Road debris and mechanical abrasion

Chemicals and road salts

Extreme weather conditions

Regular wash-down and cleaning processes

Using hoses with durable outer covers and appropriate protection can significantly extend service life.
