Afternoon teas supports the cancer unit

Mum and daughter duo, Andrea and Jodie Davey served up nearly 130 afternoon teas for the cancer unit at the West Suffolk Hospital and raised an incredible £1983.

The couple wanted to say thank you for the care given to friends and family and, as they both own catering businesses, what better way to do this than to raise money with a pop-up tea shop.

Bakes, sold out of tickets within two minutes with 100 people attending Melton Pavilion and another 30 enjoying their afternoon teas as a takeaway.

Andrea said “We managed to get some wonderful prizes to raffle off too. Lots of these were from Jodie’s friends who are all small business owners. We are pleased to support the

Macmillan unit at the West Suffolk Hospital so people can see just where their donation is going”.

Runner runs through the night for the maternity unit

Keen runner, James Seager, did not one 5k park run but 20 park runs starting at 5.30pm and finishing at 9.30am the next day.

James followed the route of the Bury Park Run at Nowton Park with the final lap being on the Saturday morning as the other park runners ran their 5k.

The aim was to raise money for the maternity unit at the hospital as he “wanted to give something back” after the birth of his daughter, Bella and his amazing efforts have resulted in a donation of £575.

James said “I want to ensure everyone receives the same care my wife and Bella received.” It was a complex birth and, at times dangerous, as Bella’s heart rate dropped but James continued to say, “The staff were brilliant from beginning to end and we can’t thank them enough”.
