Admission Requirements

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the lifetime earnings of high school graduates is $1.2 million on average. College graduates with a bachelor’s degree earn an average of $2.1 million over their lifetime.

A college education can help you find a career and increases your earning potential, but it also needs to be affordable. MSU is one of the most affordable universities in Kentucky.

Affording College At MSU, nearly 94% of our undergraduate students receive scholarships and/or financial aid.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have your results sent to MSU (use code 001976). This helps determine if you qualify for need-based financial aid, including grants, loans and federal student employment/work study. Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible beginning Oct. 1 of your senior year of high school.

Complete the Undergraduate Admission & Scholarship Application and submit your $30 non-refundable application processing fee at www.moreheadstate.edu/apply.

Submit your official ACT or SAT scores (minimum ACT of 18 or SAT of 860 required for unconditional admission).

Submit a copy of your OFFICIAL high school transcripts (must be signed and sealed from your school) to the Office of Enrollment Services. GED recipients, submit your GED scores and certificate to the Office of Enrollment Services.

Have an admission index of 500 and a minimum ACT score of 18 or SAT score of 860 to be admitted unconditionally. Calculate your admission index using the formula below. Primary institutional Scholarships Honors Scholarship

Dean’s Scholar Award

The MSU Honors Scholarship offers full tuition, on-campus housing allowance (up to a four-person suite), $5,000 and $1,500 for a one-time study abroad experience. Selection is based on academic achievement, including GPA, test scores, challenging coursework, leadership and service experiences, awards and recognitions, essay, a sample of work and interview. To apply, submit a completed Honors application packet, admission application form, transcripts and test scores by Dec. 1.

The Dean’s Scholar Award offers $2,500 per year to new incoming first-year students who are Kentucky residents. Applicants must have at least a 3.25 unweighted high school GPA and a composite ACT score of 22 or higher. Total value: $10,000 over four years

Diversity Opportunity Scholarship This scholarship offers full tuition to new incoming first-year students who are Kentucky residents and have an ethnic background of one of the following: Hispanic/Latino, African American, American Indian or Alaskan native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. Applicants must have a composite ACT score of 18 or higher and an admission index of 500. Commonwealth Scholarship The Commonwealth Scholarship offers $8,000 per year to new incoming first-year students who are Kentucky residents.

Governor’s Scholar Award/Governor’s School of the Arts/Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Award

Black Achiever Scholarship This scholarship offers full tuition to first-year students who have completed the Black and Latino Achievers Program from Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati, Ohio. Applicants must have a composite ACT score of 18 or higher and an admission index of 500. To apply, submit a completed admission application packet – including admission application form, transcripts and test scores and a completed Diversity Scholarship application packet with a recommendation from the program’s senior cluster leader, and copy of your Black Achievers Senior Scholarship packet or portfolio – by Dec. 1.

Total value: $32,000 over four years

These awards offer $8,000 per year to new incoming first-year students who are alumni of the Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP), the Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) or the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE). Applicants must have at least a 3.5 unweighted high school GPA and a composite ACT score of 25 or higher. The Kentucky Scholars Award offers $5,000 per year to new incoming first-year students who are Kentucky residents.

Total value: $20,000 over four years

This scholarship offers $1,000 per year to any first-year student who is a child, grandchild or spouse of an active MSU alumnus.

Waco Bays came to MSU from Pikeville, Kentucky, to earn his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, and is very involved in student organizations. Bays is a former member of the Campus Activities Board, is a current member of both Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and College Republicans, and helps his fellow students through the Student Government Association.

What is “ADUC”?

The Adron Doran University Center (we call it ADUC) is the hub of student life. ADUC was recently renovated to offer more space, services and options for you.

Dining We strive to provide great dining options that will satisfy every appetite. You can use your meal plan to eat at the Rocky Adkins Dining Commons, known as “The ROCK,” featuring allyou-care-to-eat options and exhibition cooking. You can also take a break from studying and grab a bite to eat at the Camden-Carroll Cafe located inside our historic library. If you decide to venture off campus, BeakerBucks are accepted at select area restaurants.

Getting Involved What you do outside the classroom enhances your hard work in the classroom. From student organizations to special events and performances, you will have lots of opportunities to engage with your fellow Eagles.

We have more than 100 student clubs and organizations. Our Campus Activities Board (CAB) and other student organizations plan annual events like Family Weekend and our Homecoming celebration, along with performances, guest speakers and community service opportunities held throughout the year.

Staying Healthy You can be active and stay fit at our award-winning Recreation and Wellness Center (also known as The Rec). College Consensus named The Rec one of the top 50 campus rec centers in the U.S. – the only one in Kentucky included in the list.

Outdoor Recreation If you like to walk, hike, bike, kayak, fish or take in the scenery, Eagle Lake is on our campus, surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest, and Cave Run Lake is just a short drive away. You can also sign up for outdoor trips, survival skills and other workshops, rent camping and hiking equipment, or kayaks and paddleboards through Outdoor Adventures (located in The Rec).

So ... just who or what is Beaker?

You might find him at any number of MSU functions … and he’s a real hit with the students. That would be none other than our very enthusiastic mascot, Beaker.

Beaker was born into the Eagle family in 1993, and he soon became an integral part of the atmosphere at MSU home sporting events. During games, you can find Beaker chatting with the fans, doing the chicken dance with his buddies or even waiting in line for some delicious hand-dipped ice cream.

Away from the court, Beaker is proud to make appearances at school and community events.

“I chose Morehead State to venture out and do something different than what I was doing beforehand. As a result, I have fallen in love with MSU and am excited to call this place my alma mater.”

Sayyid Kanu (19) came from Columbus, Ohio, and made the most of his MSU experience.

He made strides on the field as a member of the Eagle Football team and on campus as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Kanu recently earned his Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Science.

Eagle student-athletes have won the prestigious OVC Institutional Academic Excellence Award 12 times, and our teams finish among leaders in their conference and nationwide. MSU provides our student-athletes with exceptional academic resources like our Eagle Athletics Guided Learning & Enhancement (EAGLE) Center.

This 7,000 square-foot facility features Wi-Fi internet access, computer stations and areas for both private and group study.

As a student, you get to see our student-athletes from all of our athletic programs play for free with your EagleCard.

Cheerleading Our Morehead State cheerleaders are champions – among the best cheerleading squads in the nation. They compete at the Universal Cheerleading Association college cheerleading championships in Orlando, Florida, and have walked away with 45 national titles. If you want to be part of a winning tradition and join our all-women or coed squads, tryouts are held in the spring. You can also audition for our dance team, which performs at several of our home athletic events.
