Class fees cannot be pro-rated for participants joining after the first class.

Communication regarding classes and activities is sent via email. Please make sure your email address and communication settings are up to date on your online account. Ensure you can receive emails from recdesk@moraga.ca.us.

CANCELLATIONS

Classes/activities may be cancelled due to low enrollment, inclement weather, or instructor availability. If your class/activity is cancelled, you will be notified at least a week prior to the start date. A full refund will be given for cancellation of class/activity.

REFUNDS

Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing to recdesk@moraga.ca.us no less than 10 days prior to the class/activity start date. A refund of registration fees, less a $12 processing fee will be returned via check or credit card, depending on original payment method. A full refund will be made only if a class/activity is cancelled by the department. Refunds may take up to 30 days to process.

TOWN ASEP is back with variations on your favorite after-school activities for the 2023–24 school year! These after-school enrichment programs will be available to students from all Moraga elementary schools and those in home-school programs. Classes will take place at the Hacienda de las Flores located at 2100 Donald Drive unless otherwise noted.

Extended Care Program: The Town will provide an optional extended care program for families in need of childcare until 5:30pm each day. Extended care will be provided onsite at the Hacienda following dismissal from TOWN ASEP classes. Join us for homework time and fun!

Rheem Bus Passes: If your child attends Rheem Elementary School, bus service will be available. The Lamorinda School Bus program has added an additional bus stop at the Hacienda. Children with an annual bus pass purchased through the school district will be able to use this service free of charge.

Session 3: Cooking Round the USA Children will visit a different US state each day, learn about what that state is distinctly known for, and eat delicious foods associated with that state. Mondays, 1/22–3/25, 3:30–5:00pm $291 + $40 materials fee*

Cooking Round the World You won’t need a passport to cook from different countries around the world! Students will learn about culture and celebrations while enjoying the foods and flavors from different countries. Each class we cook one to two different dishes from the country of the day. Other activities include map and language education, a folktale from the country of the day, and a cooking demonstration. Yum, fun, and educational! Street Food Round the World From Brazilian bolinhos de arroz (fried rice fritters), to Hong Kong pot stickers, to Irish mini spinach tarts, some of the best cultural cuisine can be had from a street cart. Berkeley Chess School Staff • Ages 6–12 Immerse yourself in the exciting world of chess! Chess is fun and can be learned quickly and easily! Studies have found that chess helps improve test results in reading, science, and math, and produces growth in critical cognitive skills. Beyond academia, chess influences social behavior including self-esteem, respect for others, patience, and good sportsmanship. And did we mention: it’s fun! Session 3: FUN!damentals of Drawing This session introduces our students to a fascinating world of color, pattern, and design. We say goodbye to our favorite summer memory in our detailed still life drawing of a beach. We explore color usage and composition in our silly monster and fire truck drawings. You will be MOOved with our stylized patterned cow drawing that not only challenges our technique but also our color scheme. Our students will learn cultural themes as they draw and color Kawaii art. Glee Club! Myeve Capozzi Vocal Training • Ages 5–9 If you are obsessed with singing and performing and come alive when you hear certain songs, let it go and join Glee Club! Glee Club! is a weekly ensemble performance class where students sing, learn fun dance moves, and staging while singing their hearts out to their favorite songs. CERT Winter Class Registration in Progress Disasters can happen at any time! While we cannot stop them, a great way to prepare for earthquakes as well as other disasters is to take the Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class series. We invite residents to register for the Winter class starting January 11 in Lafayette. The Winter class series will be held Thursday nights, January 11 to March 7, 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Lafayette Community Center. The subjects covered include personal and home preparedness for all-hazard emergencies, hazardous materials and fire safety, disaster medical response, light search and rescue, Incident Command System, disaster psychology, terrorism, radio communications and pet preparedness. Moraga Historical Society Now is the time to join the Moraga Historical Society! 2024 is the 50th Anniversary of Incorporation and the Moraga Historical Society quarterly newsletters will spotlight the past 50 years ahead of the actual anniversary on November 12, 2024. Rotary Club of Moraga

now has over 33,000 clubs in over 160 countries. In the 1980s, RI initiated and continues to guide “Polio Plus”, the worldwide effort to eradicate the disease of polio, which is close to success. Our Club provided the largest gift ever to our Town parks—the All-Access Playground at the Moraga Commons, where disabled children may actively and safely play with their friends and siblings. Surplus funds from this project were donated to the Town, and have been used this year to improve picnic facilities at the Commons. Playground train stations have been built in both Town parks earlier.

Our Club has initiated or participated in many projects in foreign countries, such as the completed Makambo-Moraga Community Center in Sierra Leone, the under-construction Lumumba Learning Center in the Congo, and a recent project to provide concrete floors and vented stoves to rural residents in Guatemala. During the pandemic, we arranged for $30,000 of medical supplies to be delivered to a city in India. We recently arranged a $60,000 scholarship for a Moraga woman to attend Oxford University in England. We meet for lunch most Tuesdays at La Finestra restaurant. To learn more: moragarotary.org.

Our Club has been active in Moraga since 1967, following the motto “Service above Self”. We have continued to support many excellent community organizations such as MEF, Food Bank, Moraga Citizens Network, Chamber of Commerce, and the schools. Rotary International

Our Club has provided security cameras with links to first responders (soon to be expanded) in the four Moraga School District schools, and we provided medical kits for each classroom. Previously, we gave dictionaries to each student in Moraga elementary schools, and later provided subscriptions to educational newspapers. We have sponsored 14 teams in Odyssey of the Mind, an extracurricular creative team competition for elementary and high school students.

Have fun volunteering this summer as a Counselor in Training (CIT) at Moraga Day Camp! Gain valuable job skills as you work alongside our Recreation Leaders in a fun and safe environment. After an interview process, accepted participants will be trained to lead camp activities and interact with other staff, campers, and parents. CITs will focus on various transferable skills throughout their experience, as well as receive guidance in resume writing and interview skills. Recreation Department staff will provide daily guidance and supervision for CITs. Upon completion of the CIT program, participants are guaranteed an interview for the summer Recreation Leader position when they are old enough. Requirements: • Age 12–15 (by June 3) • Two weeks of volunteering during the summer, approximately 15–30 hours per week • Mandatory orientation night May 9, 2024 • Mandatory training with camp staff June 3–7 Interview Dates: April 15–19 Fee: If chosen to be a participant, a fee of $125 will be due by the Orientation Night.
