Scholarships

The Moraga Parks and Recreation Department offers a limited number of recreation scholarships to help Moraga residents access our summer programs and support a healthy, active lifestyle. Eligible programs include Moraga Day Camp (all age groups), Future Recreation Leaders Camp, and the Counselor-inTraining (CIT) Program. Scholarships provide a 50% fee reduction, up to $300 per season (not to exceed $600 per calendar year). Applicants must be Moraga residents under age 17 and participate in a qualifying government assistance program. Funds are limited, must be approved prior to registration, and are not retroactive. All applications are kept strictly confidential. Please request an application by emailing recdesk@moraga.ca.us.

Material Fees

Material fees are paid directly to the contract instructors. Instructor will provide method of collection prior to camp.

Program Locations

All camps are located at Hacienda de las Flores, Los Perales Elementary School, or Moraga Commons Park. Program locations are referenced in the camp descriptions found on pages 11-14.

Counselor-in-Training Program (Age 14)

The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is the perfect opportunity for motivated teens who want to take the next step toward becoming a Moraga Day Camp Counselor. This intensive, hands-on program focuses on building real job skills and preparing participants for future employment with our camp team. CITs will learn how to lead camp games and activities, support camper groups, provide excellent customer service, and work as part of a professional recreation team. Training includes mentorship from experienced staff, leadership workshops, and opportunities to practice skills directly with campers. An interview is required to be selected.

Interviews will be conducted the week of April 14, 3:00–5:00pm. If selected, CIT candidates will receive access to register for a program session. Successful CITs will be eligible to apply for a paid Counselor position as early as age 15.

• Mandatory orientation night: Thursday, May 7, 6:00pm, at Hacienda de las Flores. Parent/guardian and CIT must attend.

• Mandatory training with camp staff: June 2, 9:00am-4:00pm. Optional camp preparation days: June 5 and 6, 10:00am-2:00pm.

While CITs will register for a four-week session, we recognize that summer often includes family travel. CITs may miss up to four scheduled program days and still meet the program requirements.

Moraga Historical Society

The Moraga Historical Society’s annual membership drive began in January and again this year MHS is giving a free copy of Moraga’s Pride with each new membership!

Written by Sandy Kimball in 2002, this second edition contains nine chapters (208 pages) of rich historical facts specifically chronicling Moraga’s evolution from prehistoric times to incorporation. To augment this wealth of information, check out moragahistory.org, read our quarterly newsletters, or attend our quarterly speaker series.

Memberships range from $20 for singles to $30 for families and can be purchased online or at the History Center on Thursdays from 1:00-3:00pm. Coming on August 30th is Michaan’s Auction, the leading full-service auction house on the West Coast specializing in the appraisal and sale of antiques and fine art. For a small fee items will be verbally appraised on site. Look for the MHS booth at the Commons on the 4th of July and the Pear and Wine Festival for more information. Any questions contact info@moragahistory.org, call the Center at (925) 377-8734, or email Susan Sperry at ranchsusan@aol.com.

Moraga Junior Women’s Club

Moraga Juniors Celebrate 55 Years, Non-Profit of the Year Award

For more than five decades, the Moraga Junior Women’s Club has played a quiet but steady role in supporting the community. From making Comfort Pillows for cancer survivors to supply drives for food banks and families in need, the Moraga Juniors are committed to improving the lives of our neighbors. The Moraga Chamber of Commerce named the Moraga Juniors its Non-Profit of the Year 2025, honoring the group’s ongoing service and volunteer efforts throughout the community.

The Moraga Juniors are marking its 55th anniversary with a fundraising campaign titled “$55 for 55 Years of Service.” Donations will benefit the Moraga Library, this year’s designated beneficiary. Funds will be used to purchase new interactive learning panels for the children’s area, enhancing educational opportunities for local families.

Back-to-School Donation Drive

Each July, the Juniors host a backpack supply drive where members of the community can donate back-to-school supplies for those in need. The Juniors provide 25 backpacks filled with everything a child needs to start the school year.

Join the Moraga Juniors!

The Moraga Juniors are always looking for new members. Open to women of all ages and from all locations, the club offers a range of social and service opportunities, including a book club, walking club, and hands-on community projects. More information about supporting Moraga Juniors’ work, the backpack supply drive, and their $55 for 55 campaign is available at moragajuniors.org.

Volunteer Drivers Needed—Make a Meaningful Difference!

Drive once a week—or every other week—and change a life.

The Lamorinda Spirit Van is looking for compassionate, reliable volunteer drivers to help local seniors stay independent and connected. Just one morning or afternoon a week (or every other week) can make a huge impact— providing rides to medical appointments, grocery stores, social outings, and more.

We provide training, flexible scheduling, and the joy of knowing you’re making your community stronger—one ride at a time.

Ready to help? Contact Riki at (925) 283-3534 or rjuster@lovelafayette.org

Not able to drive? You can still support the Spirit Van! Your donation helps cover fuel, vehicle maintenance, and other critical program needs. Every dollar helps us keep seniors moving safely and affordably.
