Courses for Adults NEW Finger Painting for Adults: Paste

Paper

ART, MUSIC & CULTURE Beginner Barn Quilt Painting If you are looking for a historic, artistic craft, barn quilting may be your new favorite form of art. A barn quilt takes the concept of a quilt square, just like one you would find on a blanket in your home, and recreates it on wood. Barn quilts are thought to have begun hundreds of years ago when immigrants from central Europe painted them to identify and decorate their barns. This class includes all materials and you will head home with a fully painted 1'x1' barn quilt. All courses will be held at MHS Career Academy Art Room 400, 2800 27th Ave S:

First used around 450 years ago, the technique of using paint and starch to create unique and highly variable designs on paper remains a simple and versatile method to decorate paper. They are simple to produce – rather like finger painting and having creative free play time. Paste papers can be used for greeting cards, wrapping paper, book covers, decorating boxes, collages, kites – anywhere you want bright, vibrant designs. Wet pages can be taken home carefully or picked up from Community Ed the following week.

Most treatments focus on the downstream symptoms (elevated levels of glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, triglycerides) and never get to WHY your levels are too high and how to change it. The good news is all of this can be reversed. Learn how to work with your doctor to help restore your body to health. AE56 - Janice Novak Mon, 9/21, 7-8:30 PM Virtual $39 ($34)*

CLASSROOM DRIVERS EDUCATION

Classroom Driver Education Moorhead Area Public Schools’ Driver Education classroom program is open to high school students age 15 or older living in the Moorhead School District. Register through the Community Education office, 2777 34th St. S., 218-284-3400. Information sheets and registration forms also can be picked up at the Moorhead High activities office. Financial aid is not available through the district. Students are responsible to bring a Chromebook or internet capable equivalent electronic device to class. Moorhead students are welcome to use their school assigned Chromebook. If a student does not have a device, please contact the Community Education office for rental options at least one week before class. This 30-hour class prepares students for their instructional permit. Steps for people under 18 years of age to get a Minnesota driver's license: 1. Complete mandatory 30 hours of scheduled classroom instruction. Students cannot be absent or tardy when attending this course. A 90-minute parent component will be scheduled for this class in compliance with Minnesota law. If the parent class is taken then the practice driving hours are reduced from 50 hours to 40. 2. Register for behind-the-wheel training, with a private vendor and receive the blue card. The

blue card is issued by the vendor providing the behind-the-wheel instruction and is required to take the state permit test. 3. Take and pass the state permit test. Students registering for the permit test must provide: one primary ID, one secondary ID and the blue card. Primary ID options: state issued ID, current passport or state certified birth certificate. Secondary ID options: Social Security card, student ID with picture and ID number, or certified school transcript. Upon passing the permit test, making payment, and parent/guardian signature, students receive their permit. 4. Complete behind-the-wheel training. Students must have a permit before they can start behindthe-wheel instruction. 5. Complete the six-month practice period. Minnesota law now requires drivers to have a permit for six months before taking the road test. Every driver under the age of 18 who completes behind-the-wheel instruction and is testing for a provisional driver’s license must submit a driving log. 6. Pass road test. To take the road test, students must be 16 years old and have had their permit for six months. Drive on provisional license until qualifications for full license are met.

You must complete all 30 hours of scheduled class to be able to get your permit. If the 30 hours are not completed you will have to register and pay full price for the class again. No absences or tardies allowed. Please note location at registration. Students must attend all 30 hours in person. EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION

Fall/Winter Session Parent-Child -- Separating Classes Class Structure: Parents and children spend the first half together working on activities the teacher and room provides. Then we transition into circle time, which may consist of music, finger plays, movement activities, books, flannel board stories, puppets and other child-centered activities. The second half parents discuss topics of interest with each other and a licensed parent educator. Children enjoy play time, remaining with a licensed early childhood educator. You know your child best. If your child is not ready to separate, you can stay with your child the entire class.

EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION Together We Play, Then We Grow! We begin class together with fun, engaging ECCFE activities that build connection, confidence, and commentary through play, songs, stories, and hands-on exploration. Then we “split and grow”-children separate into small groups with two early childhood teachers, grouped by age and or splitting siblings. This allows us to focus on developmentally appropriate skills, independence, and social growth while also supporting comfort and connection. During this same time, adults gather in a supportive parent group for conversation, ideas, and connection! A warm, welcoming ECFE experience where families start together, then grow in their own ways, building independence for children and community for grown-ups.

This class focuses on exploration rather than perfection - because the best art often happens when we think big, get messy, and have fun!

Get ready for a hands-on adventure where curiosity leads the way! In this exciting ECFE class, children and their grown-ups will explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) through playful experiments, creative challenges, building projects, sensory exploration, and plenty of discovery. Together, we’ll ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and celebrate the joy of learning. Come ready to build, create, test, and explore - because in STEAM Explorers, every child is a scientist, engineer, artist, and inventor.
