What type of business(es) are you in or do you own? I am a TV show host, a business promoter and Vice President of WE Magazine. How did you select the name of your Business? The name Business In Pearls came out of much thought. The whole idea was to promote women in business. All too often we think about men being in business and being CEO’s and have that image of men surrounding the round table in the Board room. I had it in my mind that not only am I in business but a delicate woman. NOT like flowers, but like the saying goes, “Like a Bomb!” I consider myself like a friend once mentioned a Badass! The Pearls represents a beautiful lady. I am capable of sitting at the round table in the board room as an influencer. What entrepreneurial journeys have you gone on? I have had several businesses. Successful at the time I was running them. They range from Life Coach, Business Coach, Boutique owner, Mary Kay Team Lead, Jewelry Contractor, and Educational Consultant. What is your Business Kryptonite? My Business Kryptonite has to be myself, my own mind. I can be my own poison, because I will talk myself out of doing what I know can be done.

Does being an entrepreneur energize or exhaust you? I would definitely say both. I become so energized that it an exhaust you at times. In my opinion if you are working for yourself, the clock doesn’t stop. The mind continues to create ways to be better. My own Competition is myself. Describe your hardest year in Business. My hardest year in business has to be this past year. Having to reinvent my business was not difficult but hard. It was hard putting aside something I wanted to continue, as I design something that I know I would enjoy more. What does success look like to you? Success to me is loving what you do. It is a feeling of accomplishment. Making millions of course may seem like success, but it has drove so many people to commit suicide. It helps but not always the forefront of what I like to do. I don’t want to be broke, I want to be financial happy and comfortable. What are common traps for aspiring business owners or entrepreneurs? I believe that common traps are listening to family members who may or may not have your best interest at heart, nay sayers, and comparing yourself to others who are at different stages of their business. All of those is something that I have experienced and it can bring you down and put self -doubt in what you have wanted to do. Do you think someone could be a Business owner if they don’t have skills necessary to be savvy in Business? Everyone can grow and learn if they want to. When you are open to being a life long learner and open to allowing knowledge to develop, I think you have to develop and learn those skills. If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be? I would tell myself to follow my original dream. Research on the natural talents that I possess and enrich them. Have you ever invested in a Business Coach yourself? Yes. I believe if you are in business there should be someone around you that can continue to motivate your success like you motivate others. A personal cheerleader. What business practices did you dislike at first, but grew into? I would say that it would be talking to random strangers. Everyone has a story and listening to others will allow them to listen to yours. What are the most important magazines for entrepreneurs to subscribe to? My favorite is the Six Figure Business Coach. How do you balance making demands on yourself with taking care of yourself? I am still working on that part. I have gotten better. I would say meditating, do intentional breathing and exercising before I go to sleep. I give myself time deadlines to shut off my technology and unwind. What is your favorite thing about your business? I would say having fun with my guest and being able to know that I am helping them advance. Being that Business promoter is a great feeling. If you had to do something different what would you be doing? A lawyer. I love to debate and be right.

What type of business(es) are you in or do you own? My business specializes in helping others to be successful in life decisions/choices. I am a Life Coach and Ramsey Financial Coach. How did you select the name of your Business? The name of my business is Wisdom & Wellness LLC. I chose this name because it embodies the heartbeat of my mission. I am committed to providing sound and wise principles for clients to consider and implement. What entrepreneurial journeys have you gone on? I have an entrepreneurial background. My father was an entrepreneur so I get my drive from him. I have always leaned toward an entrepreneurial journey. I have done the craft show circuits. I also started a business promoting and booking speakers entitled Savvy Speaking Services. It is important for your business to complement your season in life. Raising children and family obligations competed for my time and attention. My family won. I decided to wait until a time that was more conducive for me to focus on developing a business . What is your Business Kryptonite? My kryptonite is a desire to help others and as many as possible as soon as possible, but it requires discipline and patience in order to be effective. Sometimes I have a tendency to get ahead of myself and experience frustrations. Another kryptonite is one of my strengths, optimism. I have a glass half-full positive outlook in life. It becomes a disappointment seeing others choose a less than prudent way and anticipate a different outcome. Personally, I internalize the setbacks and lack of progress on behalf of my clients. Does being an entrepreneur energize or exhaust you? Being an entrepreneur energizes me. It allows me the freedom to define my life and execute my ideas. I enjoy the thinking process, problem solving, creating, building and helping others. Being in business add joy to my life.

I AM COMMITTED TO PROVIDING SOUND AND WISE PRINCIPLES FOR CLIENTS TO CONSIDER AND IMPLEMENT.

What's the best way to market your business and yourself? I believe the best way to market my business is through word of mouth. Word of mouth adds an extra level of trustworthiness and reliability to my business. Another effective way to market my business is through speaking, interviewing and teaching. Speaking gives me an opportunity to express my knowledge and trusted principles that will make a difference in many lives. It is also a platform to connect with others. What's the most difficult thing about being a Woman in Business? The most difficult thing about being a woman in business is balance. We have many interests and the ability to manage multiple projects well. It is extremely important to understand that time is limited and to be selective and protective over your time. How many hours a day do you work? The number of hours I work a day depends on the day, the project, and my goals. This is the beauty of being an entrepreneur. I set my schedule and work doesn’t feel like work. I love what I do so I am excited to approach it with passion and care. What period of your life did you find your ideas blossomed (child, teenager, young adult)? I believe my ideas began to blossom as a child. Since I have been experiencing this since childhood, I have confidence in my ideas. This doesn’t mean that all my ideas work, but I am not afraid to try. If it fails, I am not afraid to try a different way. I believe that my ideas hold value and weight. And if I don’t believe in my ideas - no one else will either. My selfconfidence is a benefit to my clients. It helps me to understand and believe in their ideas as well. My role is to motivate and cheer my clients on along the way to success. Have you read anything that made you think differently about being an Entrepreneur? Recently, I read two great books pertaining to controlling your thoughts. These books are The Choice by Dr. Edith Eger and Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen. Both of these books speak to mental strength. Dr. Eger writes a compelling story on how she survived the holocaust by controlling her thoughts. In her book, she teaches her readers how to overcome struggles by first dealing with your mind. Jennie Allen approaches the same topic from a spiritual perspective. Any business owner will need a strong mindset to address the setbacks and disappointments as well as the successes that come with being an entrepreneur. As you can tell, I am a reader. So, permit me to recommend another book – Grit by Angela Duckworth. After reading this book, you will be motivated to stick with your business and work hard. The ones who practice Grit have a better chance of enjoying success.

Describe your hardest year in Business. The hardest year in business is getting started. I was inundated with ideas, building systems and defining processes and services. I believe this was a time in which I was constantly challenged in my commitment to the business. It is all part of birthing the business. And as the parent in this birthing process, I had preconceived ideas of exactly how it should unfold. However, it was extremely important for me to remain flexible in shaping my business, learn from others and accept/dismiss ideas based on sound judgment at the time. What does success look like to you? Success is choosing to live in a manner that capitalizes on my God-given talents and strengths. I believe that God granted me certain gifts and talents. It is my responsibility to acknowledge and develop these gifts with the mindset to serve and help others. Success for me is helping others to relieve their stress and anxieties by making decisions and ordering their lives to honor God. What are common traps for aspiring business owners or entrepreneurs? The common trap for aspiring business owners is selfdoubt. Our minds are bombarded with thoughts to protect you from getting hurt or rejected. As soon as we venture on a new idea, territory or venture, the thought process begins to tell you why that is not a good idea for you. In my coaching practice, I help my clients to develop mental strength. One of the first steps to conquering negative thoughts is to arrest the thought and evaluate the origin. Is this thought reality-based or fear-based? Then, I help my clients to proceed with a plan. A plan is necessary to overcome traps that are set for your failure. Do you think someone could be a Business owner if they don't have skills necessary to be savvy in Business? It depends on if the business owner is willing to put in the work to develop the skills necessary to be savvy. No business owner has all of the answers. We must seek mentors, business classes, books, and other resources to continue to learn and grow. I believe this advice is for every human not only business owners. As long as we are alive, we have a responsibility to continue to grow and acquire knowledge. This is one way to express gratitude for your life. If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be? I would be kinder and more patient with my younger self. I would encourage to focus more on what was happening at that present time and fully immerse in that day. I would tell myself to be more appreciative and grateful. And most importantly, trust God not only with the big stuff, but especially in the small matters.

Have you ever invested in a Business Coach yourself? Yes, I have utilized a business coach to get started in my business. And I plan to use a business coach again. Coaches are invaluable as they deliver accountability, expertise, encouragement, confirmati on plus so much more. What business practices did you dislike at first, but grew into? I enjoy coaching and being involved with my clients. Do I love the paperwork that is involved with each client? Not as much, but it is necessary to have a well-run business. I appreciate efficiency so I ask myself is there a better way to accomplish this task. What are the most important magazines for entrepreneurs to subscribe to? I believe entrepreneurs must be readers especially articles and books that pertain to their industry. I enjoy Money magazine and other articles that report on lifestyle trends and challenges. Also, Millie is a new magazine that I enjoy. This magazine presents articles that are directed at women at their work and financial lives. The stories are inspiring and informative for the businessminded woman. How do you balance making demands on yourself with taking care of yourself? I firmly believe that if I don’t take care of myself, then I’m not giving myself a chance to help someone else. After a difficult coaching call, I take a breather for myself. In my practice, I hear disappointments, hurts and pain sometimes. After the session, I must relieve the heaviness. It is important for me to take care of myself because I understand and realize my value. Also, I understand that my role is not to fix anyone or carry burdens simply to serve as a guide. My role is to listen, show empathy and engage my clients to seek wisdom for their particular situations. What is your favorite thing about your business? My favorite part of my business is having an opportunity to meet different people from all walks of life. I love how they invite me into their space. And I understand that I am an invited guest. I treasure the opportunity and trust. I spend a considerable amount of time seeking God and studying the Word. I love showing and introducing others to God so that they may walk in Truth as well. If you had to do something different what would you be doing? Gratefully, I can say that I do not wish to be doing anything else. I want to do exactly what I am doing now.

What is your passion? Jim Kwik defines passion as, “Passion comes when we rediscover our authentic, alive self, the one who has been muted and buried beneath a pile of other people’s expectations”.

My passions are: To help others see God and seek Him in their lives To serve as a sounding board To show empathy for this difficult and trying life To encourage and motivate others to pursue their dreams To educate and teach sound principles that lead to wisdom To deliver a message of hope What is the most difficult part of running your business? The most difficult part of running my business is devoting the necessary attention to developing social media. Social media is necessary in today’s business climate. And I would rather coach than post. I understand that it is a matter of scheduling and just getting it done. If money was no object how would you expand your business? If money was not object, I would build a team to build my brand and a platform to distribute material to reach a broader audience. Does your family support your career as a Business woman? My family is a team. My husband enjoyed my full support and encouragement during his corporate career pursuits. He achieved tremendous success. We support and encourage each other within our family to grow and develop into the person God intended. We celebrate wins together. And we console each other over the losses. So, I have full-family support as a business woman. I am incredibly blessed.

LISA M. RANDOLPH TO YOUR HOLISTIC WEALTH, HEALTH & SUCCESS

What type of business(es) are you in or do you own? Under my Parent Company “Kaizen Endeavors, Inc.” I have various subsidiaries. They all have to fit within my mission of enhancing people and the planet One of my companies is “Your Kaizen Coach” Business Coaching and Consulting Firm which I speak about in depth later in the interview. How did you select the name of your Business? Whenever I select a business name, I always want it to have an intentional meaning. There is a long story that I talk about in my book on how I came up with the name “Kaizen Endeavors” for my parent company. I do stick with having the word “Kaizen” included in most of my businesses. I like the principle behind the word and practice it in my business. The word is a Japanese practice or principle of “Continuously Improving” in small incremental steps. With “Your Kaizen Coach” for example I’m helping my clients continuously improve their business in small incremental steps. I have various strategies and systems in place to achieve this. Describe your hardest year in Business. I would say it was the first year, just working to understand all the moving pieces of running a business and working for yourself. Learning everything from taxes, business formation structure and setting up initial structures for my business that were already set for me while working in my corporate position. What does success look like to you?

To me success is knowing that I have positively impacted the lives of anyone who has an encounter with me. I want them to be able to say their life is better from our time together. This is what I strive for when working with my coaching and consulting clients. This is part of leaving a legacy, which is extremely important for me at this stage of life.

What is your Business Kryptonite? Over the years I have really learned how to conquer a lot of my Kryptonites, I’m a big believer in focusing on my strengths and delegating my weaknesses or “Kryptonites”. One of my biggest struggles early on was having the administrative support needed to run my business. When you come from corporate America, you have various departments and support staff to help you with the day-to-day operations. I knew how to build a client base and network really well. However, I also had to wear the administrative hat. This is something most entrepreneurs don’t think about when they take that leap. Especially as business starts to pick up. Also, the tax game is a whole different animal when you work for yourself. Learned this the hard way too! I found myself “in the weed” at many points in my business. I contacted Natalie, my assistant from the hotel, and asked her if she would be able to assist me for 10 hours a month with some of my administrative task. This made ALL the difference in the world to my business moving forward. It allowed me to focus more on business development activities. I was able to “Work On My Business” more than “In My Business.” I call Natalie my life-saver, let me tell you every entrepreneur and small business owner needs a Natalie. As a result of that call I made to her, we launched a virtual assistant business for her. Does being an entrepreneur energize or exhaust you? It totally energizes me! The only time it exhausts me is if I don’t stick with the principles of the KAIZEN YOU Formula I created. One of the things I mention in this formula is that you have to take care of yourself first. Intentionally make yourself a priority when running a business. It took me years to realize this. With years under my belt in the entrepreneur space, I know how vital this is to a business owner’s success What business practices did you dislike at first, but grew into? Bookkeeping. However, I recommend to all entrepreneurs that you learn how to do your books initially. Know where your money is going and where it’s coming from. I still reconcile my own books and then turn things over to my CPA. I need to know what’s going on in my business.

LISA M. RANDOLPH CONT.

What are common traps for aspiring business owners or entrepreneurs? I think the biggest trap is them thinking they can do everything themselves in their business, this causes burnout and frustration. The other thing is they think they can be everything to everybody. You have to pick a niche and develop it. Do you think someone could be a Business owner if they don’t have skills necessary to be savvy in Business? Absolutely. Skills can always be acquired, so can learning how to be savvy in business. If someone is passionate about their business vision, discipline and hungry enough to show-up every day to make their business a reality they have a chance make it as a business owner. If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be? Slow down and learn how to enjoy every step in your journey and also make every step intentional. That’s what is going to get you where you want to go. Also, be gentle with yourself! Have you ever invested in a Business Coach yourself? Always. I had coaches in corporate America and have had many coaches over the course of my business for the last 24 years. I know the value of what a coach can bring to your life and how they can move you towards your goals a lot quicker. This is why I love coaching others. WE Magazine | 15

What entrepreneurial journeys have you gone on? Wow, this is a loaded question, especially since I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur for 24 years now. Growing up I was always intrigued with business, what made a business tick. I was also fascinated that people would pay you to provide things or a service for them. I actually grew up in a family of female entrepreneurs; I guess you could say entrepreneurship is in my DNA. Even if they had a primary job, they always had their own side business. I would watch the ladies in my family either run catering businesses, restaurants or cleaning services. I remember my Mother managed an apartment complex. After school and softball practice, I would catch the bus to her office. Her maintenance man would let me go to his apartment and watch television. His apartment was a mess. I told him I would clean it if he would pay me. He paid me $30.00 a week to clean. Back in the 70s that was a lot of money for a 4th grader. I was also a very goal-oriented kid, with list of what I wanted to accomplish and how I could get it. I was also the one that all my friends would come to with their ideas or for advice. I’ve also always wanted to see people succeed and be their best, and would do whatever I could to help them. I guess all of this was preparing me for my purpose of being an entrepreneur, mentor, business coach, consultant, author and speaker. I worked in the advertising industry for an agency in Norman, Oklahoma and a Oklahoma Newspaper right out of college before embarking upon a career in the hotel industry (I wanted to work in the hotel industry when I was a little girl, and definitely after seeing Shari Belafonte on the 80’s television show HOTEL). I worked for The Marriott and Omni Hotel Corporations for eight years, as a sales/marketing manager, before venturing out on my own in 1996 as an entrepreneur and successful business owner. I was also the facilitator and coach on various “Total Quality Action Teams” which focused on employee morale, increasing productivity and efficiency in the work environment, and improving communication between upper management and staff while employed in the hotel industry. In 1996, I knew it was time for me to move on from corporate America and embark upon being a full-time entrepreneur. It was one of those things when you know your mission is accomplished somewhere and it’s time to move on. It’s wild to think that as of this May I celebrated being a full-time entrepreneur and business owner for 24 years. It has not always been an easy journey but has been so fulfilling. I would not trade being my own boss for anything. I must also give the corporate part of my life a lot of recognition. I learned so much from being in corporate America and was able to gain many skills and practices that helped me with launching my own business. I also worked for companies that were extremely committed to the personal development of its employees, so I attended many workshops and conferences that really developed me as a holistic individual. The first two companies I launched were a massage practice. Shortly thereafter, I launch my business coaching and consulting firm. I started to have a lot of small business owners or people who wanted to launch a business come to me to help them get clear on their business ideas and goals. I totally knew this was my calling and have not looked back. I guess I was coaching before coaching became such a hot career path. To me, I was simply sharing my experience as an entrepreneur with my clients and supporting them to set-up their vision with goals and systems to achieve their dreams. In 2004 I incorporated my business under the parent company Kaizen Endeavors. I knew that I would want to have multiple subsidiaries as my interest and life progressed. The mission of the corporation is “To enhance people and the planet through business” One of the companies under Kaizen Endeavors is “Your Kaizen Coach” a business coaching and consulting firm, which collaborates with entrepreneurs, small corporations and non-profits to launch or grow their business or organization. I love working with my clients to see their business visions and goals become a reality. I want to see them really make an impact on their clients and community. When I work with someone, I’m all in and expect them to be as well. It’s like a marriage! In 2017 I was blessed to co-authored an eBook with 7-other dynamic women entrepreneurs called “Be The Answer Now” it is a best seller on Amazon. In 2018 I released a book entitled “Map It Out” Create Your UNIQUE Massage Practice Using The 7-Step “KAIZEN YOU” Formula. Which is an entrepreneurship book for Massage Therapists and Wellness Professionals. I actually had someone say it’s a personal development book, wrapped around a business book! I’ve really enjoyed writing and have other books in the works. I also own a renewable energy company and am extremely passionate about sustaining the planet. I also believe it’s important for everyone to have a personal mission statement. Mine is “To empower others to recognize their true greatness by coaching them to achieve any goal, vision, or life dream they desire by applying The 4P Success Recipe: Passion, Prayer, Planning, and Perseverance”.

CAROL WHITE What literary pilgrimages have you gone on? None. I actually had to look up what that was… What is the first book that made you cry? “To Be A Slave” by Julius Lester. I bought it when I was in the 6th or 7th grade through the Scholastic Book Club. To read how those people, MY people, were treated broke my heart. What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry? For me there are a couple; plagiarism and copyright infringement. There are rules to this game! Also there is a level of respect that you must show to your fellow authors. If you use their material, GIVE THEM CREDIT. Does writing energize or exhaust you? Answer: For me, it does both. I get so energized when writing, and when my projects are completed, I’m wiped out! But I don’t have time to rest because there’s the publishing and promotion to handle… What are common traps for aspiring writers? FEAR AND INSECURITY!!! Does a big ego help or hurt writers? I think it would tend to hurt; while we write what’s on our minds and in our hearts, the reality is that we must write to our audience. This means putting your ego on the back burner. What is your writing Kryptonite? ME!!! I have a habit of becoming distracted over the slightest thing, especially when I’m tired… Have you ever gotten reader’s block? Not yet, but I know my turn on the bubble is coming! Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym? Nope!

CAROL WHITE CONT. What was your hardest scene to write? It was the chapter in my first book, A SISTERHOOD OF DYSFUNCTION, which dealt with sexual molestation and abuse by a family member. I based it on personal experience. Do you Google yourself? Not that often. I did happen to search myself after I saw this question; it was so cool to see that some of my video blogs made the cut!!! What one thing would you give up to become a better writer? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Everything that makes me who I am, if I use it properly, will make me a better writer! What are your favorite literary journals? At this point, I don’t really have any favorites, but I do have a couple that I will be submitting writings to in the future. What is your favorite childhood book? I had so many favorites, but I guess my favorites were the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. To be honest, any books that captured my imagination and transported me to different places were my favorites. What is the most difficult part of your artistic process? My procrastination. Sometimes I have a great idea in my head, but I won’t write it down right away. The idea is lost‌. Another difficult aspect would be my health issues (i.e.. Arthritis) Does your family support your career as a writer? Hmmmm‌That’s tricky. The safest way to say this is that it depends on the individual member. The same goes for friends as well. If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do? I think I would have written and kept diaries and journals How long on average does it take you to write a book? From conception to promotion, it takes me about 16 weeks. My writing group, The Black Friday Challenge, is NO JOKE!! Do you believe in writer’s block? Yes, I believe in writer’s block. Sometimes, the words just aren’t there! For me personally, I think it happens when I try to go against my calling/mission/testimony. The struggle becomes what I want to say vs. what God is telling me to say. God usually wins!!! đ&#x;˜‰

Moonlight Tryst What literary pilgrimages have you gone on? I honestly haven't gone on any yet. The most I've done is during this pandemic I got a hotel room just to get out of the house for a bit so that I can finish my two recent novels. What is the first book that made you cry? I haven't had a book that made me cry yet. At the very most my throat will get a little sore like it does when you're trying not to cry. The lost boy did that to me. What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry? I haven't experienced this myself. However, I hear that 'publishing companies' will charge overhead but then still leave the author to kind of self-promote. I've been hearing that a lot with the interviews I do for my podcast. Does writing energize or exhaust you? It does a bit of both. It tends to fluctuate for me. When I'm in my zone and I can bust out five chapters at one time I'm really energized and excited to keep the story going but then on the other hand sometimes I can only squeeze out one or half a chapter in after I do that I'm exhausted. What are common traps for aspiring writers? Counting words chapters or pages. That was an issue for me when I wrote my first book. I was really upset that I couldn't get at least 200 pages out of the story but after a while I realized that that's just not the way I write I'm not supposed to have Harry Potter novels for everything that I put out. Does a big ego help or hurt writers? I think it helps. You have to be confident it what you're putting out or you'll never put it out. What is your writing Kryptonite? My house. Not being able to leave the house as much I used to is stifling to my creative process. With evenfall I could leave and go to the library and all of a sudden I could put out four chapters. Now, I'm literally avoiding eye contact with my macbook. Have you ever gotten reader’s block? I have. Often. It's the same with any type of creative medium that I'm into. I switch back and forth between listening to books, reading books, listening to podcasts, and listening to music.

Moonlight tryst Cont.

Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym? Yes! I've always wanted something kind of obscure. So I've recently changed it from S.Robinson to Moonlight Tryst. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want? I guess you can say I try to be more original. My stories present themselves almost as movies in my head first and then I have to write them out. If I'm following a trend it's purely incidental. Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly? Yes, because maybe they just don't present them outwardly. Writing to me is a personal internal process so maybe that's where their emotions will come out. (Me, I tend to be very dry in person but I can write pain like nobody’s business.) What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer? I have quite a few author friends but the one that comes to mind first is my friend Tara. She is an absolute firecracker. She helped me become a better writer because it seems like she can blast out tons of stories all in one go and they're all very unique from each other and unique from whatever's out right now. I aspire to have that kind of writing tenacity. She's also one that inspired me to add intimate scenes to my writing. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book? I want each book to stand on its own. At the very most books could each be their own the series but I don't want the worlds to necessarily connect. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be? There really wasn't a younger writing self. I used to write poetry when I was younger but nothing like I'm doing right now. It was never a thought in my mind to write a whole book. How did publishing your first book change your process of writing? It put a little fire under me. After I published my first book I was like 'oh I can write a book' so I immediately started on two more at the same time. What was the best money you ever spent as a writer? I think the best money I spent would have to be buying author's copies. Nothing makes it more real than holding a physical copy of your book in your hand. I self-published on Amazon so I could have just let them sell like that but I wanted a few of my own. What authors did you dislike at first but grew into? I think that would have to be Janet Evanovich. By the time I discovered her she had already had like 15 books, and I was like "ma'am why, no story needs to go on this long" but now she's up to like 30 I believe and I still read her books because she's still able to write engaging stories even though it's about the same characters."

Moonlight Tryst cont. What did you do with your first advance? I celebrated with BonChon my favorite Korean restaurant.

What was an early experience where you learned that language had power? I think that would have to be reading Odysseus in high school or middle school. Even though we were just reading words on pages I was completely submersed in the world he had created. For me I could see it all laid out in my imagination. How do you balance making demands on the reader with taking care of the reader? If I understand this question correctly, for me it's giving the reader characters to fall in love with while at the same time challenging the reader by allowing the characters to have deep flaws. Flaws deep enough that the reader has to ask themselves do they still love this character. As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? A fairy. I think a fairy can represent me just as my life in general. There is a fickle nature to me and my writing and I find endearing about myself. What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters? I actually don't have anybody that I've based my characters on. At the very most I can say my main female characters may be based upon me but honestly I'm not sure. How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have? I have four currently but I'm working towards getting them out.

What does literary success look like to you? Literary success to me will be my stories being turned into visuals of some sort. Whether that be a movie or a series. What’s the best way to market your books? If this weren't a pandemic my answer would be getting out there. Book signings and such. I think people love to interact with the person that's kept them up till 4 a.m. finishing their books. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book? I tend to research while I'm writing a book. The most I've done was research names and locations. I guess that's the benefit of writing fiction novels the rest can just be made up. Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice? Absolutely. It's a form of meditation for me. What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex? Writing their thoughts / thought processes.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones? I absolutely do. I just take each one with a grain of salt, good or bad. Because I wrote what I wrote it's out now so there's nothing I can do about it.

How long were you a part-time writer before you became a full-time one? I am either still a part-time writer or I was a full-time writer from the start. The timing hasn't changed I just write when I can, as much as I can. How many hours a day do you write? I honestly don't have a number for that. I have a terrorist...I mean a nine-year-old at home so I can't always sit down and concentrate on the story but I do it when I can as much as I can. What period of your life do you find you write about most often? (child, teenager, young adult) I would say young adult. So far my main characters have been millennials. What did you edit out of this book? Nothing, I kept it all. That may be due in part to the fact that it was a novela anyway.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find? You could say that. I like to keep things about my characters a secret until deeper into the book but I word things in a way where if you're paying attention you'll know beforehand. What was your hardest scene to write? My hardest scene to write was where my co character, Will just found out some really hard information and he pretty much had a mental break. It actually made me tear up when I was reading it back. It was really important for me to convey his emotions but at the same time the girl that loved him, what she was going through watching him in that much pain. Do you Google yourself? I actually don't but now I'm going to. What one thing would you give up to become a better writer? How lazy I am. I am so lazy. And that causes me to not jump up all the time when an idea pops in my head I'm usually lucky that my phone is near me at the time so I can type it into my notes section.

Have you read anything that made you think differently What is your favorite childhood book? about fiction? I don't think I have. I've always thought of fiction as a wide- All of the books from the Amelia's notebook series. I used to love those books I feel like I'm going to go buy some now open limitless sort of thing. and give them to my son and I hope he loves them as well. I just love how they were written in all the little doodles and What are the ethics of writing about historical figures? I can say I don't like when people fabricate over 50% of the pop out pages and envelopes that the author included in story. 25% really, I think because it's a real person why not the book. just stick to the script?

What is the most difficult part of your artistic process? Connecting the major events in the book with the filler in How do you select the names of your characters? Depending on what the story is I'll go on Pinterest and look between. up 'beautiful words'. Or for my second book the base is West Africa so I looked up names within that region. Also Does your family support your career as a writer? my partner is Ghanaian so I'll ask him for ideas sometimes. They do. Both of my parents are teachers, my mom is an English teacher. And she was so proud when I finished my first book she also edited it for me. If you didn’t write, what would you do for work? What I do already. I'm a serial entrepreneur I have my hands in everything.

MOONLIGHT TRYST CONT. If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do? I would have pursued writing earlier in my life. I think I already had some interest in it but I was always a child who never went deep into anything. I played flute, I did track but I never gave myself the room to find out if they were things that I was really good at or not, that includes writing. How long on average does it take you to write a book? It tends to take anywhere from a couple months to almost half a year it just depends on how chaotic my life is at that time. Do you believe in writer’s block? I do believe in writer's block. But I also believe that it's something that's completely under the control of the writer. I think a writer just has to realize things that may cause blockages in their creative output.

THE MOST POWERFUL SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES BY DRCHERIMOORE Over the years I have had the privilege to spend time with some very financially and spiritually enlightened people. As a result, my personal life and the way I do business has changed.

In listening to these people talk and observed how they handle their personal and business lives, three very distinct and powerful traits came to my attention. I believe if all these 3 traits were applied to your life, they would make such a dramatic change, that in a short time all the things you desire would show up in your life.

I don't say that lightly, I really have been influenced by these 3 Spiritual Principles and their power. I believe -- no, I KNOW, you will be too, if you apply them in your life.

“The Most Powerful Spiritual Principles I've Learned from God That Can Totally Change Your Life! DR CHERI MOORE

1

THEY "KNOW" THEY CAN CREATE WHATEVER THEY DESIRE

Millionaires: choose what they want instead of focusing on what they don't want. They never spend time thinking about what is "missing" from their life. Rather, they make a choice about what they want in their life. Millionaires have 100% confidence in the Bible. They have no doubt about their ability to create what they desire. They don't "believe" it -- they KNOW it. There is a world of difference between "believing" and "knowing". When you "know" the truth about anything, there is no doubt. You have 100% confidence. Knowing is about trusting that you are the only one who knows what is right for you, that you are capable of handling whatever comes to you, and that you are clear on your intentions or the outcome you choose to create. I've seen the power of being absolutely clear on my intentions for my life: They come true! They have for me, and I watched the Millionaires as their intentions came to reality for them as well. Being clear on your intentions is a good first step. However, a more powerful and lifechanging step is trusting that those intentions are ALREADY a reality on the nonphysical plane of consciousness, and that they must manifest in your physical reality if you do not hold any opposing thoughts. And then, "Act As If..." your intentions are reality, now. Not dishonestly, or outside of your true beliefs. But, to feel it, sense it, imagine how it's going to "show up" in various situations once it manifests in your life.

2

THEY TAKE ACTION

As I observed Millionaires; I noticed that they didn't hesitate to move on their ideas and responding to situations that called for action in order to keep the momentum going.

Do you get the power of what this Principle is about? If you're sitting waiting for something to happen, doing other "important" tasks rather than those that you know will produce the results you desire, you are wasting time and you are no closer to your desire. Trust me on this one; I've waited for so many things in my life that never showed up!

Acting on your desire is habit that you desperately need to cultivate in order to get to where you want to be! Waiting will not do it!

I have watched these Millionaires, one after another, take immediate action, not out of fear or to 'force' things to happen, but because the next action they took brought them one step closer to their desire. And, I saw tremendous results come into their lives.

They don't take unnecessary action. Instead, they use the leverage of energy, the same leverage of energy that creates everything in the universe.

I have seen these Millionaires step into spaces of discomfort, and have courage to take action. It was also evident that they were as scared to take those steps as you and I are when we're faced with the choice of moving out of our comfort zone.

It's time to "Get Moving", trust your intuition, your sense of knowing what the next step is, and take action. We often wait for the "feeling to be right" first, before we take the action we know will bring us satisfaction. That's backwards! The feelings of satisfaction only come from ACCOMPLISHMENT, not from pondering and procrastinating. (You knew that one, too, didn't you?!) Never try to force things to happen because you are afraid of what will happen if you don't take a certain action. Instead, choose 'inspired action' that moves you toward what you want, not away from what you don't want.

Acting on your intentions without trying to force things to happen will magnetize your desires by attracting people, places and opportunities into your into reality that you never would have even seen if you hadn't done so.

3

THEY MAINTAIN AN "ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE"

Millionaires maintain an "attitude of gratitude". Gratitude does not need explanation -- you know how to be grateful. But did you know that gratitude brings you more of what you appreciate? Gratitude speeds along the manifestation of your desires.

When you find things that you appreciate and you use them as your point of focus, your world has to get better in every area of your life. Millionaires know that every time they flood their mind with appreciation or gratitude they attract more of what they desire.

Look around you right now. What can you be grateful for? Make a list. Get into the authentic feeling of true gratitude. Find something, anything, to be grateful for right now. When you are grateful, you're in a high energy vibration that will attract more things to be grateful for and more good things will come to you magically, drawn in by your feelings of gratitude.

When I put these 3 principles into practice for myself, I immediately, I mean IMMEDIATELY, got results!

Every Millionaire I have known has created their wealth and happiness using these 3 principles. If you want a step-by-step blueprint on how to apply these principles and fine-tune your ability to create whatever you desire, then take a moment to check out my "Unique Mindset Program".

LECTURE SERIES WITH DRCHERIMOORE

The days are shorter, the holiday season is in full swing, and the annual list of our most popular Bible studies is here! From prayer to stewardship to emotional health, these top 10 studies cover a wide range of topics that will help guide your daily walk—whether you’re using them for your own personal quiet time or in a group study (or both!). 1. Psalms: Managing Our Emotions: In this twelvesession course, learn how God's word in the Psalms deeply affects our emotions. 12 Session Bible Study Emotions are both complicated and complex, both mysterious and mystifying. Even the experts are not sure what causes us to experience emotions. Both social science and neurobiology have tried, to no avail, to explain the origin of emotions. And for Christians, emotions

frustrating,

untrustworthy. Some emotions seem deeply spiritual; other emotions seem downright sinful. God created us to experience emotions, yet there are still godly and ungodly ways to manage them. This 12-session course on the Book of Psalms will help you sort this out. 2. Colossians: Against the Tide The Book of Colossians: teaches principles for living a Christian life in the midst of a non-Christian culture. 9 Session Bible Study The Book of Colossians teaches principles for living a Christian life in the midst of a non-Christian culture.

Sometimes this calls for us to stand against the tide of public opinion or popular trends. This nine-session study will address such issues as how to please God, develop a stable walk with God, think like a Christian, practice spiritual self-defense, live with a focus, and become a prayer warrior. 3. 1 Peter: Walk the Talk Transformation—the process of becoming holy—begins in your mind. 7 Session Bible

Study

Transformation—the

process

of

becoming holy—begins in your mind. We will see in this seven-session Bible study that the apostle Peter shows us how to begin to think differently, which will radically affect our behavior. We all make splitsecond decisions in any given moment to do right or wrong. To choose right, we must learn to be obedient to God, which will give us an appetite for being good. This kind of obedience will create a radical change in our relationships, so that our quality of life will improve. Finally, we will learn how to prepare for suffering that inevitably comes to everyone, as we trust a loving God who has promised to take care of us. 4. Romans: Extreme Makeover of the Soul: How God transforms our lives. 4 Session Bible Study Have you ever wondered what kind of person you would be if you lived up to your potential?

FIVE MUSTKNOW FACTS ABOUT MAKING INVESTMENTS CATCH SOME WAVES IN

Do you know that you should invest, but don’t know where and how to start? If yes then you are reading the right article as we would be discussing the 5 must-know facts about making investments! 1. Investing is compounding! In simple term, investment equals to putting your money to ‘work hard’ to earn more money. It works on compounding, i.e. reinvestment of earnings and time. For example, if you invest 10,000 USD at 5% annual interest, your earning would be 500 USD for the first year, 525 USD (5% of 10,500 USD) for the second year, and 551.25 USD (5% of 11,025 USD) and forever increasing year after year! While investment can make a person rich, one must bear in mind that it is not gambling, neither it is a get-rich scheme. 2. You must first know yourself before you start investing. Three key questions you need to ask yourself before investing: what is your financial status, what are your financial goals and what kind of risk you can tolerate. Knowing yourself is important because this would directly and indirectly decide your preferred style of investing and the type of investors you become.

There is no a single investing style that works for everyone, but there is always a right one that fits your needs and the kind of environment you are in. 3. Investing is about educating yourself! Investment requires skills and knowledge. The last thing you would want to do with your hard-earned money is to blindly throw them into some investment schemes that you yourself is unsure of, that would be equal to gambling! So, you should spend some time to educate yourself about the area of investment you intend to participate in. Understand how it works can help you to plan your investment portfolio. 4. Investing is like a long adventure trip. You need to have plans before you embark on a trip, similarly for your investments. Budget the amount of money you can invest as well as devise a strategy on how to maximise the usage of your money. Strategy must not only include how to enter the market, but how to exit with your profits. Proper planning can lower the risks of losing money. 5. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your investment. Put it simply, if you are investing in a stock market, invest in more than one company. You risk losing all your money if you put them in a single company when its shares nosedive. It would be wiser to invest in more than one sector or different types of investments. NOMADIC

CANCER CARE Being diagnosed with any form of cancer can be devastating. In particular, breast cancer takes a heavy toll on women both physically and emotionally, with the illness threatening their lives, and often what helps them feel like an attractive woman. While it can occur in men, the rate is 1 in 1,000, compared to 1 in8 US women, about 12%, who will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime (1)

From DrCheriMoore’s Book: “What Now?”

Even though breast cancer rates have become lower in recent years thanks to new medical protocols and screening, around 300,000 women will be diagnosed each year, and more than 40,000 women will die each year, making breast cancer the second most lethal cancer in women after lung cancer. Having said that, it is important to put things into perspective. More than 43 million women are affected by heart disease, and in fact, 1 in 3 American women will die of heart disease, compared with 1 in 31 women dying of cancer. (2) The important thing to note is that BOTH these diseases are preventable through healthy lifestyle measures. Chances are a breast cancer prevention routine will help with your heart health, and vice versa. The thing is to not panic, and to get the facts you need to prevent breast cancer. Let’s start with a definition of breast cancer. Breast cancer can be defined as malignant or cancerous cells in the breast. The cells can also spread to the lymph nodes, part of the immune system in the body, and to the lung, liver, bone and brain, in which case it is referred to as metastatic breast cancer.

Breast cancer is commonly ‘staged’ from 0 to IV by doctors, who give the cancer a TNM score, which stands for Tumor, Node, Metastasis. A small tumor, no node involvement and no spread would be Stage 0, while a large tumor and node involvement might be a Stage III. Any metastasis or spread is a Stage IV. Staging is important because it helps doctors decide the best treatments in each case. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network is a group of leading cancer care centers throughout the US which set guidelines to help doctors in all practices follow similar procedures that have been tried and tested in order to get the best outcome (prognosis) possible. In addition to staging, there are certain types of cancer as well. These will be determined by examining a sample of the tumor under the microscope. There are 4 types to look out for, which will each help determine what sort of treatment/s a woman should have to try to cure her cancer completely. The 4 types are: Hormone receptor-positive or negative cancer Some types of cancers grow in response to certain hormones, estrogen (ER+) and progesterone (PR+). If they don’t, they are labeled ER- and PR-those that do not test negative. If they are positive, they will be treated with a certain type of therapy, hormonal therapy and will usually respond well to it. Cancer that is both ER+ and PR+ can be more aggressive.

I was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 breast and Stage 0 Lung cancer. I was determined to do everything in my power to live. I realized very soon after they removed my right breast that I had no control or power over my situation at all I prayed for the Lord to take it away. I read Psalms 119, the whole thing out loud. I was begging God to spare my life. There was a lump that grew in the center of my chest. It was visible after the right mastectomy. After the third treatment that lump was not there anymore. The doctors scheduled a PET scan to see if there was any cancer there because I refused treatment number four. The scan showed that all signs if the cancer was gone.

had chemo just three times instead of the 18 treatments that I was supposed to have. Then they said I had to have radiation for 30 straight days. My body was damaged severely from that radiation. I was burned from the inside out. My skin looked like burnt toast. I was very tired from the chemo and very sick during the radiation. My body was breaking down. I developed skin neuropathy over my back, arms and feet. I lost my hair during the treatment, my job, my sense of who I was and my beautiful shape. I tell people that "My girls are gone but I am still here." My abdominal muscles split and caused my intestines to spill through. Therefore, because I am breastless, I look pregnant and people ask when am I due. I am 53 years old. "I am breastless and beautiful," is what I tell them.(I am 60 yrs old now) During the treatment period I lost friends, and family was distant. But my husband and very close friends stuck around. My husband was and is very protective of me. He never allowed me to see him upset or worried. He held my head and hair when I threw up. My husband is the best. I am clean, clear and cancer free now. I still hurt from the chemo. Also there is sharp pain that I feel on my chest and back. But I got 18 tattoos that I call my blue dots of courage, which mark my fields of radiation. I feel that life is sweeter. Every morning I get up, I am joyful because I am still alive. Regardless of the pain and the stares and the whispers. I am still alive so I smile. I am grateful that the Lord, the Holy Spirit, ate my cancer. I keep a scripture with me. l shall not die but live, and declare the works of the Lord forever. Psalm 118:17.

“THE MIND BULLET PROOFING”

The Mind can be an amazing tool. We all have one, but we don’t use all of it. As a Forensic Psychologist, I have studied the minds of many. I have found that all people think differently and their experience is shaped by their beliefs. If you would like to delve deeper into your mind. Please send an email to CocoChanelCOO@gmail.com

T

he human mind is amazing. You need to remember that the organ in your head has been responsible for building civilizations, going to space, and creating the screen you’re looking at right now. Being the most evolved creature on the planet, we can do many things, but few reach that potential. Some people sit in their cubicles, doing menial tasks for fair pay, when they could be improving themselves and the world around them. By this, we don’t mean that everyone has to reinvent the next wheel, but instead live life to the fullest. Take calculated risks, be more confident, and set goals that they’ll end up accomplishing.

It’s difficult to reboot the mind into something that’s purpose-oriented, and this is where this book comes into play. In this book, you will learn how you can reprogram your mind to be more positive and bulletproof. No longer will your thoughts be weighed down by doubts, but instead going after your goals despite the risk. And you’ll be able to think clearly and decisively.

Confront And Deal With Your Inner Demons Once And For All The way your mind works has a lot to do with your past, whether you’re aware of it or not. You don’t need to have a tragic childhood to have had some trauma that prevents you from making it to your full potential; sometimes an innocent event can shape you without you realizing it.

This book is a quick read, designed for the busy world of today, but it’ll be able to change your life as you read it from chapter to chapter, just as long as you put in the effort and follow its wisdom. It is imperative that you proceed reading the next chapter once you are able to grasp the previous chapter mindset concepts first.

For example, if your parents were overprotective and didn’t allow you to dress up your own way or play with your friends, you may be more likely to be codependent when you’re an adult. If you grew up in an environment of drugs and alcohol, you may find yourself toughened. Bullied children will grow up to be distrusting adults.

This isn’t happening in every circumstance; there are deviations, and you need to look at it by a case by case basis. Science is never concrete in these situations. But if you’ve experienced some trauma as a kid, the outlook you have as an adult may change, and you don’t know it. It’s almost a subliminal change that happens so fast you don’t even realize it. Think of your mind as a military base, one that puts up barriers to protect itself. Your mind may have put up its own shield to protect you from your traumas. For example, being bullied as a kid may have taught you to be less trusting of people. If you see someone who is even slightly critical of you, you may get anxious or defensive.

And it’s understandable as to why that is; you don’t want to relive getting pushed around. If your parents got divorced at a young age, you may be less trusting of your partner simply because you don’t want to go through the same ordeal, or have a child who would have to experience that. It's natural to be cautious because of what happened in the past. You’ve seen people who have did what you did and got burned, or you’ve seen how terrible humanity can be. It’s natural that you put up your own shields so you won’t be like them. There’s only one problem: the shield does not protect you! Like the giant slab of mental it is, the shield around your mind weighs your mind down and prevents you from realizing your full potential. You may not take risks or pursue something because of this shield. You may not go after that woman, or man, because of past rejection.

Look at your shield. Is this really your conscious making these decisions for you, or your unconscious pulling the strings from behind? If you want to live a good life, you’ll need to live one on your own terms, and not be dictated by something that happened years, possibly decades, ago. A true bulletproof mind doesn’t need protection from the mental bullets life throws at you. When you have shields up, you become overly calculative. There’s nothing wrong with thinking before you do something; you’re probably doing it right if you question if that fishy email saying you can win millions of dollars for a small fee. But sometimes, you’ll find yourself overthinking and overanalyzing the world around you, shielding yourself from taking risks and making challenges. A bulletproof mind questions things, but doesn’t hold you back when you need to dive in and take that risk. Sometimes, you just need to ask the girl out. Sometimes you just need to be blunt to your boss and ask for a raise. 33 | WE MAGAZINE

You may not ask for a raise because as a child, you asked for a toy and got yelled at. Humans have evolved to be creatures of survival, so these survival tactics have stayed in our minds, but in modern society, there are sometimes where we need to drop our shields and go in unarmored. Think about your own shields. Have there ever been regrets you’ve had because you haven’t taken the plunge? Why didn’t you do it? What could you have done to do it? Was there some sort of childhood connection preventing you from doing it? You’ll need to think hard, as some of these memories have been bottled up. Asking your family about your past can help too. If you think you’ve found the reason, you obviously haven’t cured the trauma holding you back, but instead diagnosed the case.

34

And the way to fix this? Look at the unconscious mind. Your mind may be hiding secrets you don’t know about that are locked away, but pounding on their cell so hard they’re shaking their surroundings. You need to bring the unconscious into the conscious, and we will tell you how. Awaken Your Unconscious Behavior Perhaps the tritest explanation of the unconscious mind is the iceberg. The tip of the iceberg jutting from the water is your unconscious, and below the chilly waters is a mammoth of ice, unseen unless you have the right equipment to view it. Due to its mysterious nature, the unconscious mind is still not fully understood, but it’s the part of your mind that you can’t self-reflect on through conventional means. Besides the repressed traumas, there is a lot of things that an unconscious mind can be made of, including: Motivations and Instincts You may not know why exactly you grabbed that cookie when you were on a diet, but there is probably an unconscious desire to mess up your diet somewhere in your mind.

WE MAGAZINE

Habits Why do you eat food a certain way? How come you bite your finger nails? These habits may have an unconscious actions around them. You may be doing these things due to some trauma that you just can’t remember. Automatic Responses Do you say “sorry” even when it’s not your fault? There may be an unconscious reason as to why you do that. You don’t want the person to get angry at you, and perhaps this is due to an authority figure getting unnecessarily angry at you when you were a child. The unconscious mind has the answers to most of your quirks. But bringing it to the front of your mind isn’t easy, and there’s no monolithic way for everyone to access it. But here are a few ways you can delve into your unconscious mind. Meditation is perhaps the most obvious one, but plenty of people have been able to go deep into their mind with the power of meditating. There are a million ways to meditate, and you can probably look up some techniques online that best suit you, but the gist of it is that you find a quiet, comfortable place, sit down, breathe deeply, be aware of your body’s functions, and dive deep into the mind.

Other ways to access your unconscious mind include bringing up some of your repressed memories. These can be done through therapy, or by talking to your family or friends. They may remember something that happened to you that you can’t remember for the life of you, and once you hear about it, the floodgates open and your unconscious memory is in the front of your mind. Unconscious memories can stop you from making accomplishments. If you want to pursue a goal, and your unconscious mind tells you it can’t be done, you’re doomed from the start. Even if you try running after the goal, your unconscious mind will be the sticky tar on the ground, or the foot that trips you. The game will be over before you even played it. The race will end before you break a sweat. You get our drift. Now, once you stop yourself from saying NO, that doesn’t mean that everything you want to pursue will come to you. People will still say NO to you.You may end up losing something after taking a risk.

WE MAGAZINE

35

Usually, the voice in your head saying NO has concerns that stem from a kernel of truth. But having a bulletproof mind means accepting that losing is fine sometimes. The best people in the world failed multiple times before they succeeded. That star basketball player missed so many shots before he could shoot three pointers like it was nothing. That bestselling author got rejected hundreds of times before finding someone who would publish her work. These people have bulletproof minds. When that basketball player missed a shot, he didn’t think, “Maybe I should give up basketball,” but instead, “I wonder how I can shoot better next time.”That isn’t to say they had doubts, but their resolve overpowered any doubts and made them into the people they are today. Every time you face an obstacle, you don’t need to cry and think that it’s over. Instead, you turn it into positivity. We all know the battle between optimists and pessimists (and realists too,) where some say it’s better to see the bright side of things, while others believe that you should look at the bad side.

But positive people do end up having the push to go forward, which is what most pessimists lack. There is a bit of nuance to this, which we’ll talk about later, but the general idea is that you’ll benefit by thinking more positively. You turn on the news and see the latest political outrage. Everything is doom and gloom. Positivity seems delusional. That’s what society wants you to think. However, all of mankind’s accomplishments have been due to a positive desire to want something. The cavemen wanted a way to push things around, so they carved the wheel. The person who invented the automobile thought of a world where people could travel more freely, and created a machine that could do that. By thinking about what holds you back, you’ll be able to think about your decisions with a clearer lens, and hopefully look at life from a different angle, regardless of whether you win or lose. We realize this book won’t change your thinking overnight, and even if you become more positive, you’ll still have your doubts and maybe even end up succumbing to them.

After all, bulletproofing doesn’t mean completely impervious to bullets. You still get shot while wearing a bulletproof vest, and it hurts. But it doesn’t kill. You want a mind that can still keep going regardless of your fears. How To Awaken Your Unconsciousness? Begin by noticing all your quirks. If you can’t figure out any, speak to your coworkers, friends, spouse, or family, as they can point out the little quirks you otherwise don’t notice yourself. Write them all down, and try to figure out why you do it. You may not solve the mystery of your unconscious instantly, but this can allow you to get some clues to get you started. Every time you perform a subconscious action, put it into a “mental note”. Do this for something that you want to “fix”, be it anger or frustration, try to control that emotion from letting it all out. Take small risks to see small changes in life, by not taking chances is equivalent to no changes in your life and then moving on towards bigger risks to tackle.

ARE YOU A CONSULTANT OR ARE YOU A BUSINESS COACH Business consultants can generally add value in five major areas of your middle market business: 1.Management and strategy. Qualified consultants should have a deep understanding of your particular market and bring the best practices from your industry (or even other industries) to your company. If you're looking to expand your markets geographically, extend your product portfolio, reorganize your middle market company to promote efficiency and cost-effectiveness, buy out a smaller competitor, or increase your overall capabilities, then hiring an experienced management/strategy consultant can make perfect sense. Firms such as McKinsey & Company are famous for helping clients develop and execute better strategies. 2.Operations. Want to improve the quality and efficiency of your production processes? An operations consultant such as Accenture can help you create and implement a new way of doing just that. Some consultants specialize in business process re-engineering, meaning that they come in and map out your existing processes, analyze opportunities for reducing the number of steps in that process while maintaining quality, and reengineer your processes in a way that reduces steps and costs. Other consultants are experts in quality control systems and can help you make changes that will reduce defects.

3.IT. This is a fast-growing area for consulting, as the demands of new technology are impacting middle market companies every day. Whether you need to develop a new system or integrate your old systems so that they work together, an IT consultant can help. IT consultants such as IBM will enhance your capabilities and also make your IT more flexible in meeting the dynamic needs of internal and external customers. 4.HR. Need to improve the overall satisfaction of your employees, recruit top talent, and retain your top performers? HR consultants such as Hay Group specialize in developing compensation strategies that align with your overall business goals, training, and developing your people in areas such as business communication and leadership. They can help you improve performance-related feedback and evaluation to your team, making your employees work smarter. 5. Marketing. Whether you need a new logo for your company, a new market position for one of your brands, or a new social media strategy to interact with your customers, marketing consultants can help. Consultants such as The Boston Consulting Group can offer you a creative spark when your own people have run out of ideas, letting you see what other companies have done to attract more customers.

Now that you know the major types of consultants, why would you need to hire one? Here are five common reasons: 1.Rent a brain. You don't have the human resources you need because some internal person has quit or your head count has been slashed, so hiring a consultant for a project or on a temporary basis can fill the gap until a full-time internal person is found. You won't have to make a consultant a full-time employee, so breaking off the relationship is relatively easy and costeffective. 2.Manage change (and take the heat). Consultants are experts at fostering change in organizations, so if your mid size company is rife with internal squabbling concerning imminent changes, bringing in a consultant can break the logjam. Consultants know that they're often brought in for political cover and will shoulder blame for unpopular changes such as reducing headcount and other cost-cutting measures. 3.Teach and implement best practices. Consultants are often the leading experts in the fields they work in. They not only have academic and theoretical expertise, but they've also worked directly with leading companies to implement change. If you want best practices in areas such as IT and management, then consultants are the best source available. Why try to invent a best practice when consultants have already implemented some with multiple clients?

REASONS FOR HIRING A CONSULTANT 5.Deliver training. You can hire a consultant to share knowledge about almost anything. Consultants are born trainers, so they're a natural choice to do a training course or day-long presentation for your company in almost any area. A good consultant blends theory and practice, and this can deliver high value to your mid market company. Consultants can obviously be expensive, and you need to carefully weigh the costs and benefits. Only you know the particular needs of your mid sized firm, but chances are that a consultant can help turn those needs into highly beneficial solutions. Where are some of the best places to search for and choose between similarly qualified consultants? Let us know what you think by commenting below. My coaching philosophy stresses the importance of accountability, responsibility, team unity, discipline, mental toughness, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and a desire to compete (VALUES). A Mentor will most likely be in the same profession, sometimes in the same organization, and usually an experienced practitioner who has already walked the path the Mentee is now walking. Coaching does not include providing advice - rather the focus is on the Client’s own thinking. Mentoring will include telling - or offering advice, at times.

Coaching · Relationships are contracted for specific periods of time · Sessions can be more structured in nature and meetings can be scheduled on a regular basis · Focused on developing strengths and making sought after changes – useful in talent development, change management and seeking specific solutions to professional challenges · Coaching does not require the coach to have direct experience of their client’s formal occupational role - although it is expected that they will have a sufficient understanding of the business or organizational sphere they are operating in. That is, the Coach will have a command of the language of; for example, accounting or education or engineering or leadership. · Agenda is set by the Client – the focus will be agreed between Coach and Client across a coaching series and at each session · The agenda is focused on moving towards the clients stated goals.

Mentoring · Ongoing relationship that can last for a long period of time · Can be more informal and meetings can take place as and when the Mentee asks for them around obtaining some advice, guidance or support · Mentoring can take a broader view of the person · Mentor is always more experienced and qualified than the ‘mentee’. Often a senior person in the organization who can pass on knowledge, experience and open doors to otherwise out-of-reach opportunities · Focus is on career and personal development · Agenda is set by the Mentee, with the Mentor providing support and guidance to prepare them for future roles · Mentoring is focussed on developing the Mentees career
