SENIORS 2025 — The Class of 2025 gets their moment in May and that means excitement for family and friends of seniors at all three Moore high schools.
PARKS ARE READY FOR SUMMER — Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of Moore’s 300+ acres of parks, especially with splash pads opening in May.
The COVID pandemic of 2020 turned a lot of things on it’s head, including a Moore Monthly tradition of setting aside a cover celebrating the graduating class for our city high schools. We couldn’t be more excited to renew that tradition and offer friends and families of the Class of 2025 a keepsake edition of our magazine, complete with a list of all graduating seniors, along with those earning high academic honors. Jaguars, Lions, and Sabercats…Class of 2025…we salute you!
CLASS of 2025! Congratulations
For the Moore Public School students in the Class of 2025, we want to celebrate this milestone in your lives. You’ve been on an incredible journey, experiencing all the highs and lows life can bring your way. Crosstown rivalry games, proms and dances, pop quizzes and exams, conversations with friends, teachers, coaches, and families.
Now you stand on the threshold of the next stage of your journey. As you step through this doorway, we want to honor all your hard work and acknowledge all that you’ve experienced.
From your friends at the Moore Monthly – Congratulations to each and every one of you!

The Importance of Enjoying Nature
My childhood home had the biggest vegetable and flower gardens in nowhere. It was my dad’s pride and joy. After spending the entire workweek on his feet, he was down on his knees with his hands in the soil every Sunday. I didn’t understand why he wanted to spend his day off digging in the garden. I never imagined that gardening could be relaxing.
Thirty years later, I had an “a-ha” moment. My dad was ahead of his time. He never knew about mindfulness or meditation. The term Zen didn’t exist in his world, but he was experiencing peace and contentment, lost in the rhythm of gardening, in a Zen state of mind.
“Gardening lends an outlet for keeping the hands and mind busy,” says Charlie Hall, Ph.D.. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension horticulture specialist. Practicing mindfulness, focusing, and concentrating on what you’re doing while digging, planting, weeding, and trimming reduces anxiety and negative thoughts.
Unlike Dad, I don’t have the innate skill to make things grow. However, this winter felt like it went on forever. I couldn’t wait for the warmth so I could get away to my backyard. I spent the winter months looking through Better Homes and Gardens, Burpee seed catalogs, and Pinterest boards fantasizing about my summer garden. I felt less paralyzed with anxiety, my spirits lifting. I happily anticipated the day I could grab a shovel, transplant the overpowering hostas, and make room for fragrant flowering plants and delicious vegetables.
It’s pretty easy to get started. The internet contains websites explaining the basics and the best flowers for beginners. Here are a few good ones:
• Good Housekeeping
• Home Depot
• Better Homes & Gardens
Gardening can be an effective tool for self-care. “We have become so accustomed to multi-tasking and being totally plugged in during our everyday lives. Gardening requires that we focus only on one thing at a time and that we are fully present in the moment.
Outdoor gardening exposes us to sunshine and Vitamin D, but bringing nature indoors can also make us calmer, happier, and healthier. Studies show indoor plants’ psychological and physical benefits include improved mood, reduced fatigue, and lower stress and anxiety levels.
If there’s no outdoor access to plant a garden, caring for houseplants on a balcony or windowsill provides physical activity that distracts the mind from stress-inducing responsibilities. It’s not hard to achieve a mindful, meditative state. While watering the plants, stay in the present moment. Don’t rush through it. Take a few deep breaths. Really pay
attention to what you’re doing. Focus on the leaves and flowers; touch them; talk to them!
While tending to the garden is therapeutic for the gardener, your loved ones will also respond well to being among the flowers and greenery. Healing gardens, green spaces in hospitals and other healthcare facilities provide refuge and promote healing in patients, families, and staff. They offer respite from the hospital atmosphere and introduce pleasant scenery to look at and listen to. It’s easier to relax and heal in nature, surrounded by various colors, scents, sounds, and sun.
Humans are hard-wired to unwind in a natural setting.
Of course, sometimes it’s impossible to find a park or garden. Being trapped in a metropolitan area probably makes us crave the outdoors even more. YouTube has a wide variety of nature videos with sound effects and music. Watching and listening to waterfalls, ocean waves, trees rustling in the wind, birds, and blooming flowers can relieve anxiety and calm the nerves. They can stimulate a more pleasant mindset. I find videos mesmerizing, especially on cold or rainy days when I don’t dare step out the door.
Whether down and dirty in the home garden, relaxing in a healing garden at a facility, or watching nature videos, it’s easy to take a revitalizing escape. Green thumbs and brown thumbs alike can find a way to enjoy nature.

During a visit to the Dallas-Fort Worth area a few years back, Moore Police Chief Todd Gibson saw a volunteer program that resonated with his vision for the MPD. It gave birth to VIPS: Volunteers in Police Services, an active and growing program that connects local volunteers with essential tasks in the Moore community.
Captain Kevin Brown supervises the program and believes it is already having a very positive impact on the community.
Check program, which sends volunteers to check on citizens’ homes while on vacation.”
Captain Brown said that even though the program is still in the early stages of development, there’s room for more volunteers. The program is open to anyone 18 years or older, but retirees seem to be the best candidates because they tend to have more free time. Those interested will need to go through an approval process that includes the nine-week-long Citizens Police Academy.
Captain Brown said, “That gives them a working knowledge of the police department and an understanding of our procedures. After that, they would also have to go through a full background check. Once they’ve finished that, they can put in an application for the VIPS program.”
“VIPS is a great bridge and a valuable program,” said Captain Brown. “It gives volunteers, many of whom are retirees, a chance to get involved in the community and helps us build relationships with our citizens.”
The VIPS program isn’t just a feel-good way for volunteers to spend their free time. Captain Brown says those volunteers assist with tasks essential to the community and the Moore Police Department.
“Part of what they do is assist our officers with various responsibilities through our agency,” said Brown. “These valuable tasks, like working with records, free our officers up to do other important things. They also help us with programs outside the office like Meals on Wheels and our House
Moore’s VIP program has started small to ensure it was well-constructed, but Captain Brown says that the department is now ready to expand on it.
“We’re always evaluating where we’re at,” said Captain Brown, “And right now we do have a few people who have put in applications and are getting close to coming onboard and volunteering.”
If you’re interested in learning more about the VIPS program, or any other citizens’ programs offered by the Moore Police Department, just visit cityofmoore.com, and then click on Police Department in the Departments & Divisions section of the main menu.
How to Get a Better Night’s Sleep
May is National Better Sleep Month, supported by the Better Sleep Council. This month raises awareness about the benefits of better sleep and how poor sleep can disrupt our lives. According to the American Sleep Association, more than 50 million people have a sleep disorder.
A good night’s sleep, together with diet and exercise, is essential to mental, emotional, and physical health. During sleep, our bodies work to support our brain function and maintain physical health. Poor sleep results in poor concentration, irritability, a weakened immune system, higher stress levels, headaches, weight gain, and an increase in blood pressure. High blood pressure can be a precursor to heart attacks and strokes.
Not enough sleep during middle age may increase the risk for dementia later in life. Proper sleep helps with growth and development in children and teens. College students are at the most risk due to sleep deprivation; 60% of undergraduates reported poor sleep quality, and 25% reported insomnia. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7-8 hours of sleep per night for all older adults.
Tips to help you get a good night's sleep:
• Loneliness is one of the risk factors for insomnia, so GO SOCIALIZE! Visit community/senior centers, libraries, lectures, participate in activities, and volunteer.
• Make sleep a priority and stay consistent with your bedtime schedule, including weekends.
• Create a bedtime routine that is screen-free, like reading a book, listening to soothing music, soaking in the
tub, meditation, and drawing/journaling. Keep your work materials out of the room.
• Your room should be dark, quiet, comfortable, and cool. Dedicate your room to rest and relaxation.
• Reduce/eliminate naps during the day, but if napping is a must, avoid napping late in the day and for more than an hour.
• Replace mattresses every 5-7 years and pillows yearly.
• Seniors who exercise regularly report falling asleep faster and sleeping longer. Exercising too late in the day can keep you awake due to the adrenaline released during the exercise.
• Avoid eating alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine close to bedtime – they can lead to poor sleep. Avoid caffeinated beverages after 2 p.m.
I wouldn’t be a dietitian if I didn't include foods that can help you sleep through the night. Foods that increase serotonin, along with B vitamins and folic acid, promote healthy sleep. A study in The Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that eating high-fiber, low-saturated-fat meals leads to deeper sleep.
• Complex carbohydrates are high in fiber and B vitamins. Try whole-grain pasta, bread, cereals, crackers, and brown rice.
• Lean proteins such as low-fat cheese, chicken, turkey, and fish are high in the amino acid tryptophan, which can increase serotonin.
• Unsaturated fats that are found in nuts are not only good for heart health but also increase serotonin levels.
• Magnesium-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, avocados, and back beans can promote serotonin production.
• Beverages such as warm milk, including plantbased milk, and herbal teas such as chamomile and peppermint can make the body feel warm and relaxed and promote a good night's sleep. The calcium in milk has a soothing effect on the nervous system.
We spend a third of our lives sleeping, so it’s vital that we take steps to improve our sleep habits. Let’s make our sleep a priority and combine regular exercise with good nutrition – this way, we can enjoy the other two-thirds of our lives energized, rejuvenated, healthy, and stress-free!
Orthopedic Injuries in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — Go to Ortho Stat When They Happen
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and grappling in general is more than just a martial art. For many, it’s a way of life. The grind of daily training, the constant pursuit of improvement and the camaraderie on the mats create a deep connection between athletes and the sport. But with that intensity also comes a high risk for injuries.
At Ortho Stat and Ortho Central, we’re seeing more and more BJJ athletes walk through our doors. Why? Because injuries in this sport are common—and when they happen, athletes need quick, specialized care to avoid long-term damage and get back to training and making gains.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the most common orthopedic injuries in BJJ, how to recognize them and why Ortho Stat is a smart choice for recovery.
Knee Injuries — The knee is one of the most vulnerable joints in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Whether you're shooting for a takedown, playing open guard or defending a pass, the knee is constantly under stress from twisting, torquing and lateral pressure.
While some soreness is part of the game, more serious injuries can—and do—happen. There are differences between being hurt and injured. Meniscus tears and MCL strains are especially common, often caused by sudden directional changes or getting caught in unpredictable scrambles.
If your knee feels unstable, locks up or swells significantly, it’s time to stop rolling and seek care. You may feel like you can grit through the pain, but untreated knee injuries can sideline you for much longer if not treated appropriately to begin with.
Shoulder Injuries — The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, which also makes it one of the easiest to injure—especially in a sport like BJJ where it’s targeted constantly. Moves like the kimura, americana, and omoplata are designed to isolate and stress the shoulder joint.
Many BJJ athletes experience rotator cuff tears, labral injuries or even partial dislocations, especially after resisting submissions or absorbing pressure during transitions. While some shoulder soreness is to be expected, persistent clicking, dislocation, weakness or pain when lifting the arm overhead can signal something more serious.
Elbow Injuries — The armbar is one of BJJ’s most iconic submissions—and one of the most common sources of elbow injuries. Even if you tap before full extension, the elbow joint can still be pushed beyond its natural limit, especially in fast-paced rolls.
If your elbow feels loose, weak or painful when extending, come see us. Ortho Stat’s on-site imaging and orthopedic specialists can help determine whether it’s a minor strain or something that needs more indepth treatment.
Fingers, Wrists and Hands — From spider guard to sleeve grips, your hands are always in play during BJJ. That constant tension takes a toll—especially when grips are broken forcefully or fingers get caught in the gi.
Common injuries include:
• Dislocated or jammed fingers
• Wrist sprains from posting during takedowns
• Chronic tendonitis from overuse
While many athletes write these off as minor, hand and wrist injuries can become chronic without proper rest and treatment. If it’s swollen, bruised or you’re having trouble gripping, it’s worth getting checked out.
When Should You Come to Ortho Stat?
One of the hardest things for BJJ athletes to do is recognize when they need to take a break. But listening to your body is essential—because what starts as a minor tweak can become a long-term issue if left untreated.
It’s time to get evaluated if:
• You experience swelling, instability, or limited range of motion
• You feel or hear a pop during a roll
• You’re unable to grip, extend or bear weight normally
• Pain gets worse over time, not better
Ortho Stat: Same-Day Orthopedic Care for Martial Artists
That’s where we come in. Ortho Stat is a walk-in orthopedic urgent care clinic built for active people—like BJJ athletes—who can’t afford to wait weeks for answers. Instead of heading to a crowded ER or waiting for a referral, you can get expert care fast.
Our team treats sprains, strains, dislocations, fractures and overuse injuries—on the spot. With onsite imaging and access to orthopedic specialists, you’ll get answers and a treatment plan right away, so you can focus on recovery and getting back on the mats.
No appointments. No referral. No wasted time.

Assessments Offer Solutions to Challenges for Local Businesses
Tim Burg
Tim Burg currently serves as the Economic Developer for the Moore Norman Technology Center. Prior to joining the MNTC staff, for 12 years Burg was the Economic Development Director for Shawnee Forward and the Shawnee Economic Development Foundation. He also spent 7 years in Ponca City managing that community’s award-winning Business Retention and Expansion program. Burg also has more than 25-years of experience in the construction and engineering field, including owning his own business. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute and is one of only 1200 Certified Economic Developers (CEcD) in the world.
What exactly are business assessments, and why are they helpful?
Business assessments can allow MNTC’s Workforce and Economic Development team members to understand better the challenges or obstacles a business faces. Every business can deal with different issues, and by conducting a face-to-face business assessment, we can often suggest or offer solutions that can help a company overcome its specific barriers.
Some examples can include conducting a business assessment where MNTC’s WED staff can help find solutions to a business in need of customized training for their employees, the development of a safety plan, or a strategic business plan by meeting with our mature business coach, or exploring what resources exist to support a company in areas such as their supply chain, expansion planning or simply by helping them develop a targeted market strategy.
Can you talk about how MNTC’s business assessments connect business owners with grant opportunities in a practical way?
The state of Oklahoma offers a wide range of incentive programs that are mainly focused on business expansion projects, where the company will add new employees, and will be making a capital investment in the business, which can include adding new equipment, expanding, renovating, or modernizing a business facility or their operations. These incentive programs are in place to encourage a business to reinvest in its business, which will help grow the local and state economy, and equally as necessary, the business’s revenue streams.
There are state P-3 programs (P-3 = Private Public Partnerships) in place that can help a municipality or county extend or expand their infrastructure systems, and programs help improve workforce development and educational training programs, which benefit employers who need better-trained and higher-skilled employees. When conducting a business assessment, we often learn what a business’s “points of pain” are, which allows us to determine if there are resources or services we are aware of that can ease a company’s business constraints. More often than not, MNTC’s WED Team can advocate for businesses by helping them find solutions to their most pressing business challenges. How do you link local businesses with instructors and their students?
Meeting with a business owner or a manager one-on-one allows us to ask them questions about their understanding of what Moore Norman can provide to them in the area of Work-
force Development or Workforce Recruitment. Most business owners know little about what Moore Norman offers, but they don’t always know the full extent of what we offer or how to access those services.
When we discover that a business needs to improve the skill levels of their employees and/or recruit more employees, we can walk them through the processes that work best to accomplish those goals and make the introductions to the training programs instructors or department directors to allow them to gain additional insight into solutions that will work best for the businesses.
We are also blessed to have staff in our Career and College Connection Department who rapidly respond to businesses by helping them connect to our services.
In addition to opportunities with OIEP, BEIP, etc., what other opportunities are available to help attract new businesses or help businesses with expansion?
The benefit of working with the Moore Norman WED staff is that we have an extensive network of partners, associates, and peers locally, regionally, and statewide that we can turn to as needed. (I’m old, and I know stuff and people!)
Our partners range from those who work at the Local, County and State levels in economic development roles, those who are connected to government organizations and agencies that represent Oklahoma towns, municipalities, and counties, financial institutions, Chambers of Commerce, non-profit organizations, plus we are well connected to our state universities, utility providers, representatives from our Federally elected officials, and much MUCH more.
We also have access to several different research groups who are among some of the most intelligent individuals we know, who have access to robust software programs that help us track trends and projections that will affect not only our local areas but can provide us with valuable insight into the different regional perspectives that make up our large portion of our economies.
How do business owners get started with a business assessment?
The easiest way is to contact any of us who serve in the Moore Norman WED team, to allow us to set up a time to meet.
I’m always happy to take a phone call at my direct office number of 405-801-5896, or a business can email me at tim. burg@mntc.edu to schedule a time to discuss their needs.
Once we know a little bit more about a business, we can get them in touch with the right person on our team who can help arrange a meeting.

Becky Feldman-Standridge, Children’s Library Associate, Moore Public Library
Deborah Marcero continues to inspire in Hope in a Jar, where three bunny friends share hopes and wishes together — but sometimes it can be hard to keep hope alive when things go wrong and you have to start over! In this companion to the acclaimed and bestselling picture books In a Jar and Out of a Jar, a little bunny and his friends collect their hopes and dreams for the future in jars. Precious, bittersweet, and encouraging for readers of all ages.
Llewellyn the bunny and his friends dream of many things. Some of their dreams are small, like learning to ice skate or visiting a friend. And some of their dreams are big, like going to the moon, becoming a ballet dancer, or a wildlife photographer. Their dreams feel so precious that the bunnies place them in jars for safekeeping. But when a storm comes and destroys their collection of jars, Llewellyn and his friends wonder: What's the point of dreaming if everything could be lost?
Fortunately, there's always room for new hopes!

INorthmoor Elementary Wins State Archery Championship Amid Season of Adversity
n October, students at Northmoor Elementary set their sights on a dream: earning a place on Coach Ed Fowlkes’ state archery team. Like every year, hopeful archers showed up an hour and a half before school to practice, and many stayed late in the gym after classes to continue honing their aim. Dedication was in the air.
By the end of October, Coach Fowlkes had made his team selections, and the season officially began. From the start, the team showed exceptional promise.
At their first meet, the young archers posted impressive scores. Excitement quickly grew for the upcoming Northmoor-hosted district meet—until life took an unexpected turn.
On the morning of the meet, Coach Fowlkes awoke with high blood pressure and chest pain. His wife rushed him to the hospital. On the way, he texted his daughter Maddi, a critical care nurse at the Heart Hospital in South OKC, who alerted the emergency room team. That morning, Coach Fowlkes suffered a heart attack. Doctors were unable to place stents due to the blockage, and five days later, he underwent double bypass surgery. Archery—and life—were suddenly on hold.
Despite his absence, the Northmoor archery meet went on, thanks to a team of dedicated PE teachers from across the district. Coach Fowlkes was deeply moved to hear how his longtime assistant, Coach Craig, stepped up to help run the event, managing over 300 archers that weekend.
“The motivation to recover came from wanting to get back to my archery kids,” Fowlkes said.
While he recovered, Coach Craig, Principal Dr. Braun, and newly added assistant Coach Durrett kept the team’s momentum alive, running practices and maintaining skill levels. With his doctor’s approval, Fowlkes returned a week earlier than expected. Though practices were limited, the team made every minute count, and scores steadily climbed.
In February, Northmoor qualified for the Grand State Shoot in Tulsa. However, icy weather meant the team had to shoot virtually at their school. To ensure fairness, South Lake Elementary's archery
team, led by Coach Milligan, came to shoot alongside them. Archers from each team scored the other’s arrows to maintain integrity.
A week after submitting their scores, Northmoor received incredible news: they had won the Elementary Division of the State Tournament.
Coach Fowlkes called the moment humbling and credited the season’s success to a higher power. “I truly believe God had a hand in all of this—the help we received during my absence, the resilience of the kids, and the outcome of the season.”
The blessings didn’t stop there. Northmoor also celebrated an individual state champion: Kynlee McCart, who earned first place in the girls' elementary division with a score of 279.
“Being a state champion was amazing,” Kynlee said. “All the hard work paid off. I couldn’t have done it without my team’s support. Archery has helped me become a more confident and patient person. My team means everything to me.”
First-year archer Natalee Schwab, who placed fourth overall in the girls’ elementary division, echoed that sentiment. “When I found out I made the team, I knew I had to work hard for my teammates and for Coach. I love being a part of this team.”
Reflecting on a season filled with challenges and triumphs, Coach Fowlkes shared, “Coaching this group of kids has been a blessing from God. I’m lucky to be called their coach.”

How Smart Home Devices Can Lower Your Summer Energy Bills
n a world increasingly conscious of energy consumption and its environmental impact, smart home devices are emerging as a beacon of hope for both homeowners and the planet. These innovative gadgets, equipped with cutting-edge technology, are not only simplifying daily tasks but also significantly reducing energy bills. From thermostats to lighting systems, the integration of smart devices into households is proving to be a game-changer in the quest for energy efficiency.
smartphones, homeowners can turn off lights, adjust thermostat settings, or even switch off standby power for electronic devices left plugged in. This remote accessibility empowers users to manage their energy consumption effectively, even when they are away from home.
As your community’s energy efficiency experts, here are some ways you can integrate smart devices with your power costs.
Energy Consumption Monitoring: One of the primary features of smart home devices is their ability to monitor energy consumption in real-time. Smart meters, for instance, provide homeowners with detailed insights into their electricity usage, enabling them to identify areas where energy is being wasted. By having a clear understanding of their consumption patterns, users can make informed decisions about adjusting their behavior to reduce energy waste.
Automated Energy Management: Smart home devices offer automation capabilities that allow users to optimize energy usage effortlessly. Programmable thermostats, for example, can learn the household's schedule and preferences, adjusting the temperature accordingly to conserve energy when occupants are away or asleep. Similarly, smart lighting systems can be programmed to turn off lights in unoccupied rooms or adjust brightness levels based on natural light conditions, further reducing unnecessary energy usage.
Remote Control and Monitoring: The convenience of controlling home appliances and systems remotely through smartphone apps or voice commands adds another layer of energy-saving potential. With a few taps on their
Integration and Interoperability: The interoperability of smart home devices with each other and with existing home systems enhances their energy-saving capabilities. Integration platforms, such as smart home hubs or virtual assistants, enable seamless communication between different devices, allowing them to work together synergistically to optimize energy usage. For instance, a smart thermostat can communicate with smart blinds to adjust window coverings based on temperature changes, maximizing energy efficiency.
Incentives for Adoption: Governments and utility companies are increasingly recognizing the potential of smart home technology to reduce energy consumption on a large scale. Consequently, many regions offer incentives such as rebates, tax credits, or discounted energy rates for homeowners who invest in energy-efficient smart devices, including OEC. These incentives not only make smart home technology more accessible but also encourage widespread adoption, leading to significant energy savings at the societal level.
As concerns about energy conservation and sustainability continue to grow, smart home devices are emerging as indispensable tools for homeowners seeking to lower their energy bills and reduce their environmental footprint. With their advanced monitoring, automation, and remote control capabilities, these innovative gadgets empower users to make smarter energy choices without compromising comfort or convenience. As the adoption of smart home technology continues to rise, the prospect of achieving significant energy savings becomes increasingly attainable, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
OEC and OEC Fiber are proud to be at the forefront of the evolving world of technological advancements.

OSU Releasing New Ornamental Plant App
The OSU Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture will soon release Plant-It OK, a new horticulture app designed to help Oklahomans make informed decisions about landscapes and plants.
The app has cleared final tests and is now available for download in the Apple and Google stores.
The platform will provide a comprehensive and easy-to-use database of Oklahoma-centric ornamental plants in collaboration with the OSU App Center. It was designed by Justin Quetone Moss, head of the department of horticulture and landscape architecture, Brenda Sanders, OSU Extension assistant, Mike Schnelle, Charles and Linda Shackelford endowed professor of floriculture and David Hillock, senior Extension specialist of consumer horticulture.
The database includes more than 275 plants, ranging from native species to those well-adapted to the state’s ecosystems. The app is intended for homeowners, landscapers and gardening enthusiasts. It offers tools to create personalized plant lists, search for plants based on specific criteria and access detailed plant information.
addition to plant recommendations, the app allows users to identify plants for their projects, like front garden beds or shade gardens.
“As you’re looking for plants, you can just put those in a list so that when you go to a garden center, you can see if they have them,” Sanders said.
The app will provide links to full fact sheets from the OSU Extension website for users who need more in-depth information. In future updates, the team plans to integrate AI-powered plant identification, allowing users to identify plants from photos.
“We’re not there yet,” Moss acknowledged. “We’re not computer programmers, we’re horticulturists. Maybe in the future, we could add something like that. This is version one.”
The app is being developed with support from a U.S. Department of Agriculture specialty crop block grant that is administered by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. In collaboration with the OSU App Center, an on-campus resource for designing and developing web and mobile applications, the team worked closely with app designers and developers to ensure the app's functionality and user-friendly interface.
“The idea with the app is to have all that information in one spot, right in your hands to pull up what you want to find. Instead of going through five or six physical copies of fact sheets, you have one app to rule them all,” Moss said.
Plant-It OK is built on the research and resources of OSU Extension fact sheets. In
“We hope it helps the consumer and the homeowner in Oklahoma who just want to have a beautiful landscape and want some help with choosing good plants for their home. At the other end, we hope it helps our industry, too,” Moss said.
The app is downloadable for iOS and Android devices through the app store and from the OSU Extension website.
