If your cell phone doesn’t ping or apps aren’t downloading, do you know how to make them function again? What if you want to learn computer code, build a robot or start experimenting with artificial intelligence? Where would you start? If you don’t have answers for any of these questions, a group of enthusiastic, very technologically savvy young people working in a recently opened Moon Valley store will teach you how to solve existing device problems yourself or learn a cutting-edge skill. At Generation Tech Support, or Gen-Tech, located in the Shaw Butte Plaza, at 13236 N. Seventh Street, staffers will explain what your device’s problems are and how you can right an issue. Andrew Lane, 16, is one of the Gen-Tech technicians. “We have people come in and they either have
questions about something tech related or they have a (tech) problem with something,” says Lane, 16, who will be a Paradise Valley High School junior. “And essentially what I do is educate them on how to solve it. A big thing about what makes us different from other companies is that we actually work to educate the people on how to do it themselves, instead of just having us fix it for them.” He says incoming clients mostly are experiencing difficulties with their cell phones or their computers. Lane says he’s always been a device fixer, tinkering with items like old DVD players, vintage computers or phones, to make them work again, so his fascination with technology began at an early age and continues. “It’s educating people on how to keep up with tech, because there’s tech coming up all the time,” Lane says of Gen-Tech’s business model, which includes a great human element. “I treat everyone here like they’re family,” he says, adding his favorite technological device is a “really nice Windows laptop.” The ideas for the business evolved with Moon Valley ....Continued on page 5 resident Debbie Kovesdy,
School Connect Hosts Meetings at GenTech Support School Connect is lucky to be able to host some of our meetings at Generation Tech Support. On Thursday June 22, we had a meeting to learn more about valley organizations serving students in families in the community.
