Moon Valley Unites During Covid-19 BY AN N E- M AR IE O L SEN
As the coronavirus continues to cause massive changes to daily life, Moon Valley residents have stepped up to find creative ways to help each other and have a little fun, all while trying to maintain the appropriate amount of physical distance. Here are a few examples. Several families put food and supply tables in their front yard for neighbors to take what they need. On social media, Moon Valley Moms reported which stores had food and even shopped for others to minimize shopping trips. Sara Nelson keeps us updated with which restaurants are doing pick-up and delivery. Adults, teens, and kids are donating and volunteering to help make face masks for healthcare workers so that hopefully they do not contract the virus while helping others. See the article, Social Distance Sewing Bee for Healthcare Workers for more information and how you can help. Moon Valley residents are staying active by participating in scavenger hunts like the Bear Hunt on March
25th and the Rainbow Hunt starting on March 27th. More events are planned to help keep kids entertained during this time. Families have created obstacle courses and games in their front yards for neighbors to play while they are out getting fresh air. Nicole Burns and other Moon Valley kids are creating amazing works of art with inspirational messages on sidewalks and walls. Alexa Wilson’s family delivered artwork to a nearby senior center and Anne McClellan’s family delivered thank you art to Banner Health Foundation. Aria Jo and other artists are painting on rocks and leaving them for neighbors to find!! I hope I find one! What a treasure! Moon Valley parents became teachers overnight and are so grateful to those who have shared and helped organize resources available for schooling during a crisis. Several Moon Valley kids were treated to a birthday parade with neighbors honking, waving, and singing from their cars. The community committed to supporting local businesses. The Olson Family had Front Porch Portraits done by Jocelyn Miller, many of us did curbside pick up at Moon Valley Grill and Moon Valley Country Club and other local restaurants, Sarah Brown Holmes asked Carey Stevens Broadwater from Tall Blonde Bakery to make her son’s birthday cake,

To you, Moon Valley humbly thanks you and extends a heartfelt, virtual hug for being on the front lines. There are so many others not mentioned specifically here but it does not go unnoticed! Wild Thing Botanicals BY CHERRY C AUDILL DELLIOS I created Wild Thing Botanicals because I think something extraordinary happens when someone hands you a bouquet of flowers. As a young child I understood the calming force of nature and as an adult I have studied the research that states plants and flowers can aid in the healing process, especially for people who are stressed or ill. During my mother’s third and final bout with cancer, the flowers I brought to her always seemed to inspire her, reminding her she was loved and of all the natural beauty in the world. Since then I had been searching for a way to bestow that feeling to others and was so thrilled when I serendipitously found The Joy Bus Diner, a non-profit restaurant who creates and delivers healthy meals to homebound cancer patients. The community of love that Jennifer, the founder, and her staff have created is palpable, and I’m so very lucky to take part in their mission. About a year ago I began donating plants and handmade floral bouquets to the patients of The Joy Bus and so far have been able to give over 500. I also go on meal deliveries with friends. When one patient called me and said she places the flowers on the same table with all of her prescriptions because the colors make her happy and calm, that is what I had hoped for, that is my purpose for giving. As a way to make my giving sustainable I’ve created Wild Thing Botanicals, an online plant shop, opening soon. Our model is Buy One, Give One: for every plant sold, we will donate a bespoke floral bouquet to a Joy Bus patient. With this, our community can join us in being a ‘Plant Philanthropist’ and experience the deep benefits of giving. Follow my journey on Instagram @wildthingbotanicals
The Iceman Say-ith By Roseanne An hour late, again! What excuse would she buy this time. Mindlessly, Cybil stared at an image within an ice cube afloat in her cocktail. Falling into the scene, she could see herself standing before an Ice Wizard, beseeching his wisdom… “Waiting for someone?” Her eyes encountered a smile, at home in enchantment. And that’s when it came. Iceman’s answer, musically, through the bar’s speakers. “If you can’t be with the one you love….’ Watching her remove a purse from the vacant stool he said. “May I join you?” Eyes meeting her smile, he sat. ‘…love the one your with’.

TRAPPED IN MOON VALLEY
LET TER FROM THE EDITOR
As I sit here and start to write this monthly column, I am so torn, as I look outside, I see the beautiful green mountains, cactus in full bloom, critters scampering across my lawn and yet, the streets and stores are closed up tight. Sad, but yet so full of hope and optimism. Everyone is talking about how this will make us stronger as a nation, community and a family. Which I do not doubt in many cases, but the reality of this and the facts are that many businesses and services may not, and will struggle just to keep alive. Thank you to all of you that have supported all the local businesses trying to retool themselves with the new stipulations on selling. The creativity we are seeing is truly amazing and entertaining at best: Zoom happy hours, social media frenzies, and six-foot meeting spaces, and neighborhood porch parties. Connection is all we want, to be together and support each other, let’s not even get started on the hugs!! Oh, how I soooo miss them already, and dream of the days we can again. Thinking of what and who we can help? I believe that the ones that will need it most, are the ones we need the most. The many non-profits that struggle daily for the almighty dollar, the ones giving of their time and efforts, providing some services that none other do. Many are unsung heroes, and will continue to do what they have always done, but will need us. Need our extra stimulus funding in the likes of financial donations. The sad thing is, but most truthful is that people will continue to do the heavy lifting, but the overhead is where it gets unbearable. The electric, rents, insurance and all the business expenses that did not go away have piled up, and the means to catch up are so very difficult.

Rookie Mom: Let’s connect
while staying inside B Y B R I G H I D C O N S TA B L E
You should see the inside of my car right now. In one cup holder, there’s a big container of hand sanitizer and, on the dashboard, is a face mask with a filter. I wear it everywhere I go and sanitize/Lysol everything that is new and now entering my home. Yesterday, (though when you read this, it will be in April, so who knows what the developments will look like then!), I started developing a cough. This cough has been on-and-off for me for a few months, but when it returned, I naturally started to panic. And then my 3-year-old daughter adopted this cough as well. Then she had a low fever. This is where my anxiety reached a pinnacle: Brynn has reactive airway disease (RAD), so when she gets ill, it hits her hard, and she needs a breathing machine to get through her allergies, cold, flu, or whatever. With that, I reached out to friends and family members who were concerned, but also shoo-ed it away. This morning, I woke up feeling fine, but still couldn’t shake the cough. My daughter dealt with the same. During her nap time, I wanted to get out of this house (which was driving me stir crazy), so I thought, “Why not go to Target and buy some seeds to add to our garden project?” This was not a big deal one day ago. It was during this time where I reached out to my friend Nicole who immediately said, “Let me get it for you! Stay inside! You have a cough!” Which, yes, this is all glaringly obvious news, but I just started crying right then and there. Sitting right outside the Target parking lot. Because I knew how stupidly irresponsible it would be for me, who has a cough and who doesn’t know if it’s COVID-19, to walk into a public place, even with a face mask, who could potentially give this virus to others who might not be able to handle this disease. After that revelation, I called my 68-year-old mother and it truly hit me thinking when I was going to see her again. Clearly her demographic is the
one struggling with this and I would never want to harm her. But, what’s the procedure besides the 14-day wait period? When will the U.S. receive more testing kits? I know this is very obvious, but as our community slowly goes through the first stages of the Coronavirus, everything is so unpredictable. And I know our emotions will be the same. With that emotional reaction that I had to go through, here are a few pleas to my Moon Valley community and family members: ● Stay inside if you resemble an ounce of sickness. ● Do not stay isolated. Reach out to friends through social media or FaceTime, especially those who tend toward depression or anxiety. ● Yoga Pura is hosting a daily yoga session via their Facebook page. It’s free! ● Get outside every single day and do not negotiate on that. ● This is not a time to master something you’ve always wanted to do. This is a time to pause, offer gratitude for what we DO have, and take it easy through uncertain times. ● Please support local restaurants and stores who have taken a hit during this time. If you’re wanting take out, hit Aiello’s, Moon Valley Cafe, Lookout Tavern, etc. Support local! ● Be kind to yourself during this time. Who knows if what we’re doing is right or wrong, but put yourself first (inside of course!) Also, feel free to follow me on Instagram at @rookiemomaz if you want to keep up with how my family is coping with the Coronavirus quarantine. Sending you light and love during uncertain times.

Mortgage: I Was Hooked!
A BEAR-y Busy Day
B Y B R A N D I PA U C E K
Eighteen years ago, as a new college graduate, I started my first job in mortgage. It paid well for being my first real job, but I didn’t consider it a career at the time. My degree was in cellular biology, and mortgage definitely was not cellular biology. I soon learned however, that my curiosity in how parts of a cell work together were a lot like how the parts of a mortgage work together. I was hooked! I’m still learning something new everyday in my career as a loan consultant. It could be anything from making someone’s unique circumstances qualify, a change in guidelines, or both at the same time. It’s what keeps me going! In the past two weeks, I believe I’ve learned more than at any other time. I’ve learned so much about what happens to mortgages in our capital market after we lock the interest rate and close the loan. I’ve also learned how extremely important it is for homeowners to make their mortgage payment every month, not just to maintain good credit, but also to keep our banking system strong, especially during economic uncertain times like these. Easier said than done for some, right? It appears our government is attempting to help in every way it can. After a mortgage purchase or refinance closes, the mortgage note is sold to an investor on a secondary market. A servicer then collects the monthly payment from the borrower for the investor, for a small service fee. Even if the borrower doesn’t make their mortgage payment, the servicer still has to pay the investor. In our current climate, servicers will be seeing a large wave of non-payments, and they will still have to pay the investors. We hope the government will see this and allocate some of the $2T stimulus package to help servicers pay the investors. This will improve the mortgage rates to get us back to the historical lows we saw in February, only without overloading the investor/servicer system like it did then. Most industry experts agree that this is only temporary, and that we will see the markets normalize quickly after we are cleared to open our communities again. Now is a great time to finance real estate!

On Tuesday, March 24th, more than 100 bears escaped from quarantine and Moon Valley Hunters set out (safely!) to find them! Some of the hunters were out first thing in the morning to find the bears and others waited until the afternoon to head out on their search. Several hunters, like the Phipps girls, used the book, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” to prepare for their hunt. Fortunately no hunters had to go through tall, wavy grass, rivers, or snowstorms to find our Moon Valley bears!! We had family come from far away to help with the Bear Hunt, including Debbie Kovesdy’s daughter and granddaughters! Thank you for joining us on our hunt! By the end of the day, the Moon Valley Hunters found all the bears and they were returned unharmed to their homes. And the hunters returned to their homes too and that night dreamed of their next big hunt for rainbows!

Estate Planning in this time of uncertainty
I am writing this in mid-Ma rch, for publicaB Y L I B B Y B A N K S , P L L C , E S TAT E P L A N N I N G tion in April, not knowing what the next thirty days may bring. Covid-19 is an uncertain virus that our scientists are still figuring out. Many of you are sheltering in place, avoiding any public meetings and keeping social distance even from family to protect those who are vulnerable. Many are also thinking about estate planning, but not wanting to proceed because they don’t want to leave home. Because of that, we are offering online meetings through Zoom or via Facetime. This system allows us to talk with you face-to-face to begin an estate plan for you. For signing the plan, we currently are doing very short in-person meetings but researching other options to permit you to stay home and still put a plan in place. The peace of mind of having your estate planning done is immeasurable. Think about moving forward now; we are blessed to be in this age of technology that permits us to plan even while we are hunkered down to protect ourselves and others. Now to our regularly scheduled messaging: The Benefits of the Revocable Living Trust! There are many benefits to a Revocable Living Trust – and not just for the wealthy. The truth is, there is no magic net worth number that tells us when a trust provides the best plan for your assets. Two key factors we look at to decide if a trust is the best option are your family situation and what type of property you own. Here are a few of the advantages to the Revocable Living Trust: The Revocable Living Trust Appoints Someone to Care for Your Finances When You are Not Able Both a Will and a Revocable Living Trust contain instructions for distributing your assets after you die. However, a Revocable Living Trust also contains your instructions for managing your assets and your care should you become incapacitated. The Trust names the trustee you selected and permits that person to
step into your shoes to pay your bills, preserve your assets, liquidate properties, if needed, and generally assure that both you and your finances are being cared for. A Revocable Living Trust Avoids Probate, Maintains Some of Your Privacy and Reduces the Cost of Wrapping Up Your Estate at Death A Will tells the world who will receive your assets after your death. However, the Will does not transfer the assets automatically. Instead, the person you appointed to wrap up your estate (your personal representative or executor) must submit the Will along with an application to be appointed executor and various other paperwork to the probate court and ask to be appointed. That is how we probate your estate. If all you have is a Will, your estate will likely go through probate. A properly prepared and funded Revocable Living Trust, on the other hand, will avoid the need for a probate court proceeding on your death. It also avoids the possibility of disclosure of your assets to the public, whereas the probate court filings are public record. With a Trust, the person you selected to take charge of your estate will be able to step in quickly to gather, sell and distribute your assets to your beneficiaries with no need for a court’s involvement. Avoiding probate is usually a good idea. One example of why: If you have specifically omitted one of your “heirs” from your plan, the probate court still requires us to send them notice that we filed a probate – even though they are supposed to get nothing. As you can imagine, this often leads to that person filing a contest or claim in the probate proceeding. Who are your heirs? If you have children, it is them. If you don’t, then your parents are your heirs, then your siblings and then nieces and nephews. How the Trust Works When you set up a Trust, you transfer assets from yourself to the trust. The deed to your home, for instance, will transfer from You to You as Trustee of your trust. You still control the assets, but your role is as trustee (and beneficiary). For a married couple, it won’t feel much different than when you hold your assets in joint tenancy. You also maintain full control of your assets, doing the same things with them you did before: write checks, buy and sell, direct your stockbroker. Even your income tax returns stay the same. The IRS ignores the trust. The Revocable Living Trust makes sense for many estates. To find out if it makes sense for you, take advantage of my free initial consultation for estate planning. Doggie Distancing
My dog, Gracie, and I are overdue for a haircut. Our nails are too long, hair unkempt, and our routines, as everyone’s, have changed. We both are desperate for new ‘do’s. She reluctantly allowed me to take her photo, but only after I paid a modest modeling fee–one biscuit. She is shy, especially after a bad hair day, depressing news, and practicing doggie distancing. I sit in my recliner, eyeing her blue-gray hair sticking up in dreadlocks–badly in need of a do-rag. She’s a Bedlington terrier, with a permanent quizzical look on her long face, now wondering, “What the heck happened in the last few weeks?” We are hunkered down at home. From the beginning of the shutdown, Gracie enjoyed the added hours of attention. She finally had me all to herself. No more leaving her alone for work, gym visits, and dinners with friends. Now the only time
B Y T E R R Y R AT N E R , R N , M FA
we are separated is when I pick-up groceries, pharmacies, or fill up for gas. We walk this afternoon down our long and narrow street filled with rows of apartments, homes, and condos. The day was gray and damp with a mist hanging over the city. I avoided the usual “Oh, she’s so cute.” Luckily most people have stopped asking to pet her. They understand the ‘social distancing.” But the sad part about this is Gracie doesn’t get it. All of a sudden her outside contacts have been eliminated from her social calendar. She also feels isolated from her peers and admirers. Although she still has me to ooh and ahh over her, it’s not the same. Our walks serve as meditations–a vital part of our daily routine. Gracie has taught me how to be a better person, to take life as it comes. I’m not sure what I’ve taught her except to nudge my leg when it’s time for her to eat, play, go out for a walk, or have a special treat. She ‘sits’ on command and gives a paw, but only her right. So for now, she’s my companion, my lockdown buddy, my savior from this chaos. We both help each other. I’ll be bathing her tonight, pampering her with a wash and dry, trim, comb out and new do. She’ll be giving me her standard quizzical look, but in the end, it’s all about the treat.
AriZona Bike Paths BY LEON, TRY ME BICYCLE SHOP Arizona has many places to ride your bicycle. From dirt paths on trails plus lined street paths. Sedona is my favorite place to ride but there are only few miles and all are on busy roads. The mountain trails are many but, of course, require a mountain bike. Tucson has separate trails along the washes, with one trail that circles the entire town very nicely. Phoenix has 1,500 miles of lanes and paths, not counting the ones going into the mountains. Phoenix is truly the winner by sheer numbers. Now riding these paths is free but it is enjoyed by very few. My favorite starting at 15 Ave Hatcher centar of all bike paths. Is going east
to Tempe Town Lake on the Arizona canal then west on the grand canal to 101 freeway. West of the freeway and running north an south is the New River path. Take it north to Arizona canal then east home. Ride carefully watch others and water in tunnels.

I am going to go over a few conditions that you may not think chiropractic can help. KNEES- Many times the femur and tibia can be mal-aligned causing pain. Medically they would put bursistis or tendonitis as the cause. By re-aligning the knee, the pain is eliminated quickly. RIBS- Ribs commonly are mis-aligned or fixated causing much misery. By restoring proper motion to the rib cage, much relief can be obtained.

HIP SOCKET- I feel that 80% of total hip replacements started out as a mis-alignment of the ball and socket, allowing for degeneration of the joint lining. If caught soon enough, we can re-align the ball and socket and stop the wear and tear. Don’t wait until it’s too late. TMJ- There is chronic mis-alignment of the temporal mandibular joint. After time, the lining can have permanent damage. If caught soon enough, excellent relief can be had. TMJ mis-alignment can also be a main trigger to chronic headaches. BICEPS TENDON- Many times the biceps tendon will slip out of the humerus groove causing pain and inflammation. When this present, it is hard to reach up and back. This condition occurs because the ligament that holds the tendon in the groove has been damaged. We can put the tendon back into the groove, giving great relief.

Just one look at Gypsy (617815), the adorable one-year-old German shorthaired pointer mix, and you’ll fall in love with her right away! Gypsy has been with the Arizona Humane Society for quite some time and has greatly benefitted from some time away from the shelter with a wonderful Foster Hero family. This program helps expand the walls of the shelter and gives pets a space where they can heal medically, reduce stress and get some extra love and care. Gypsy is a sweet and cuddly girl who loves to play and run around. She is a medium sized dog who weighs 47 pounds, but she makes the perfect lap dog. This sweet girl also has a lot of energy to burn off so she loves to do zoomies around the yard, play fetch with toys and is a lover of dancing! Her short, soft fur and her adorable eyes make this sweet pup truly adorable and she would love if you came by to meet her! AHS recommends that Gypsy be the only dog in her new home and is with a family that can help her with some training in the future. Meet Gypsy at AHS’ Campus for Compassion location off of 15th Ave. and Dobbins Rd. in Phoenix. For more information, visit azhumane.org/adopt. Please note: This pet might have been adopted by the time you visit the shelter; however, AHS has dozens more wonderful pets who also need loving homes. Please take a moment to meet some of the other dogs, cats and other companion animals at the shelter! To see all adoptable animals right now, visit www.azhumane.org/findapet.

The Mighty Bear Roars
THE WRITE STUFF BY GERRY JOHNSON
The implosion of the stock market in the last few days caught most of us by surprise. I guess that I have lived through several downturns in the market, but they really didn’t affect me too much. All of us “oldsters” have been in a pretty secure place during this ongoing period of sustained market growth. Regardless of whether this is just a momentary blip caused by the onslaught of the insidious corona virus, or whether it bodes of a new market “normalcy,” it may be time to rethink our senior strategies for funding our longer projected life spans. The first thing that comes to mind is the need to lower expenses. Lowering outgo is a sure-fire way to conserve retirement assets during a market downturn. Eliminating a mortgage payment helps mitigate those portfolio losses because you aren’t drawing down on deflated assets to make those mortgage payments. Even if your home is paid-for, it’s good to have a fallback strategy. A reverse mortgage is a place to draw from until your portfolio stabilizes. It can allow you to skip taking those distributions when the underlying value is much lower, thus jeopardizing the efficacy of your retirement plan. There are several provisions of the FHA version of the reverse mortgage that make it quite appealing, and which have eliminated the pitfalls that plagued reverse mortgage borrowers in years past. With FHA’s Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM): You don’t have principle and interest payments. You can payback if you want to, but there is no requirement to pay anything back until you no longer live in the home. You are only charged interest on the amount actually drawn. If, God forbid, there is a housing crash and you draw more that your home would sell for, that shortfall is paid for by FHA. It is not charged against your estate or your heirs. You can arrange to receive a monthly payment for as long as you remain in the home, but you don’t have to. You can stay in the home for as long as you are able. Using preset FHA ratios based the age of the youngest borrower, the appraisal and the prevailing interest rate, the lender determines the amount they can lend on each property. If you haven’t drawn all of this amount, you have a line of credit on which you can draw when needed. This increases in value each year and never goes away, unless you take a complete draw, until you pay off the loan. You are required to pay property taxes, homeowners’ insurance and association dues. If you are unwilling or unable to pay these items, a fund similar to an impound account, can be set up. The old adage that a reverse mortgage is a surefire way to lose your home doesn’t apply anymore. For those that need it, a reverse mortgage is a Godsend. It is also a great fallback strategy for those that don’t necessarily need one now. My suggestion is contact a trusted Reverse Mortgage Loan Officer and explore your options. There is no cost to investigate. You will be glad you did. - Gerry Johnson –

Light Reflective Value B Y K AT H L E E N V I C K An important aspect of choosing the right color is knowing how dark or light it should be and there is an empirical way to do that—by its LRV (light reflective value). So let’s talk about light for a moment. Light is measured in foot-candles. That means how much light is emitted one foot away from a lighted candle. For example: The brightest situation is 10,000 foot-candles (at the top of Everest in the full sun); the lowest is 3 foot-candles (the full moon). Every paint color is rated with a LRV—although most information is unavailable to consumers—but if you ask, you can usually obtain it. Let’s put that into interior perspective. The whitest white is 93 LRV. Black is 3 LRV. A color with a LRV of: 80 or more will be perceived as a “tint” or an “off white”, 65 or more will be considered a pastel, About 50 will read true as a color, About 35 will give the impression of a “shade” and Under 20 will be a deep, accent. Another important actor is the paint finish. Standard finishes are flat, eggshell (also sometimes referred to [or similar to] as satin), semi-gloss and gloss. Paint naturally wants to be gloss. If you look at gloss paint under a microscope you will see that it is smooth—there is no openings in its surface. This is important because there are no places for dirt and other nasties to become trapped. In order to make flat paint, elements are added that break up the surface tension to create “holes”. This not only eliminates reflectivity but it allows dirt and microbes to settle in. Contractors like flat finish because it hides the imperfections in the surface. A good compromise for paint finish—for ceilings and walls in all spaces including kitchens and baths—is eggshell. It has enough gloss to be cleanable but not so much gloss as to be “glossy”. Trim and doors should be semi-gloss to both provide some contrast to the walls around them and to provide more clean ability.

fighting the coronovirus with the power of nutraceuticals BY DR. NICHOLAS WARNER, DC The overwhelming majority of news coverage right now deals with the coronavirus: what it is, where it’s spreading, efforts to make a vaccine, who has succumbed to it and how to prevent it. Here’s a prevention tip you may not have heard about: nutraceuticals. You may have already observed that many of the deaths from these viruses, whether it be flu or corona (yes, thousands of people die every year from influenza as well), usually involve people with less-than-ideal immunity – older, suffering from a health condition or both. It makes sense, therefore, that anything which would boost your immunity could potentially help prevent coronavirus from advancing beyond a few harmless symptoms to something life-threatening. What exactly are nutraceuticals? In a nutshell, they’re dietary supplements, compounds or other nondrug entities found in food sources that have benefits beyond basic nutrition. For the purpose of this conversation, we’ll focus on the nutraceuticals that may reduce corona and flu per a recent study published in Progress in Cardiovascular disease, and let the researchers explain their findings: “Nutraceuticals have potential for boosting the type 1 interferon response to RNA viruses.” Type 1 interferon exerts several important functions, but the most important may be helping protect against viruses in neighboring cells that have not been infected. You can see how a boost in type 1 interferon could help prevent corona and flu viruses from taking hold and causing problems in the body. So, back to nutraceuticals: Which ones could help? The researchers provide some suggestions based on the evidence: elderberry, zinc, glucosamine, spirulina, lipoic acid, selenium, ferulic acid, N-acetylcysteine and yeast beta-glucan. Your doctor can tell you more about these and other nutraceuticals that can boost immune health, including the food and/or supplement sources.

Controlling pests in the garden and home-Spring Joys BY FROST Y K ROENING
I picked up a 12 page “pamphlet” entitled “How To Control Pests With Common-Sense Methods and Less-Toxic Products” written by the City of Phoenix Water Services Department with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. Finally there was time to look at it. In Spring all kinds of insects wake up and begin the next cycles of their lives. It starts with “NEVER POUR PESTICIDES DOWN THE DRAIN.” For obvious reasons this is good advice. Water reuse would be deeply affected if pesticides are put in drains. The next page is regarding ants. They are said to be helpful in attacking termites. They eat the eggs of fleas and other pests. “Established ants will compete with less desirable fire ants, driving the fire ants away.” Horned toads and velvet ants are their natural enemies. For ants in the house, “Follow the ant line and caulk openings where ants enter the house,” and “Wipe up the ants and their trail with soap and water to destroy the ant scent.” Also, “Sprinkle diatomaceous earth or silica gel in cracks and entry points that can’t be caulked.” Aphids on plants can be controlled by ordering lady bugs or green lacewings and letting them loose. Caterpillars can be controlled by birds, lizards and geckos, ground beetles, and tiger beetles. Also, there are pheromone-baited traps and Bacillus thuringiensis, an insecticide safe to mammals. Cockroaches (the large ones sometimes called palmetto bugs) are eaten by lizards and geckos, scorpions, birds, spiders, and praying mantises. Diatomaceous earth or silica can be sprinkled on cockroach walkways. Vacuuming carpets regularly and not leaving food crumbs out discourages them, too. We put pot lids over our shower and tub drains when we leave our home and close sink stoppers so cockroaches won’t come in through the plumbing. Crickets love to slip in under screen doors and in any crack open to the outside. Pyrethrum-based sprays (short-lived) can be used if an infestation is great. Praying mantises, scorpions, spiders, lizards and birds eat them. Fleas are hard to get rid of without vacuuming thoroughly. Place the vacuum bag in the sun for a day to cook the fleas. Steam clean carpets to ensure that larvae, eggs, and newly hatched fleas are killed. Wash pets with an insecticidal soap. Apply pyrethrum powder directly on pets. Use herbal flea collars. Brewer’s yeast sprinkled on pet food makes pets less attractive to fleas. Scorpions are beneficial. However, their bites can be deadly to humans. Remove rock and wood piles, loose boards, and debris. “Tighten door and window seals and cover or close vents or holes to keep insects and scorpions outside.” Palm trees should be pruned and their trunks peeled to 10-15 feet above ground. Owls and ants eat scorpions. Springtails are eaten by spiders. Vacuuming and other clean-up inside keeps springtails in check. Don’t over-water plants inside or out. Whiteflies are controlled by ladybugs, flies, and green lacewings. Spray plants with one teaspoon of liquid dish washing detergent per gallon of water every three or four days as needed. Spray the undersides of leaves, too. Whitefly traps are available on the market or make them with yellow cardboard coated with petroleum jelly mixed with detergent. Hang near infested plants. The desert is thought to be a dead zone. Not so! Monsoon rains year round awaken plants and animals, including insects, and make for a busy environment.

TEMPORARY COVID-19 PROTOCOL TELEDENTISTRY ESSENTIAL DENTAL CARE EMERGENCY DENTAL TREATMENT 7TH ST
What is “Essential” Dental Treatment & Teledentistry? While writing this article in late March, I read that the New York Times recommends a two-week nationwide “shelter-in-place” order be immediately made by the president. As you are reading this, we may very well be in the midst of such an order. With that said, we want to ensure that Dental Home will continue to serve our community. It is my hope and prayer that going through this crisis together, we will become a stronger, healthier, Moon Valley community in the future. As of March 27, our office is open for “essential” dental treatment. Our goal is to prevent our patients from going to an emergency room or urgent care with a dental related problem. Those facilities are already anticipating being overwhelmed with COVID-19 related patients. Dental Home considers “essential dentistry” as treatment to alleviate pain and/or resolve a dental infection. Should you need emergency dental care, your initial appointment will begin with the latest “Teledentistry” technology, by using audio and video via computer, to provide consultation and education. To learn more about Teledentistry and to view an online tutorial, check out our website: dentalhomeaz.com. For patients who need to come into the office, we will allow one patient in our treatment area at a time. All patients will be prescreened for COVID-19 symptoms, including having their temperature taken prior to being treated. Infection control, patient’s safety and overall health has always been our top priority. We are continuing to take extraordinary measures to ensure a safe environment for all of our patients and team. We are blessed to live in the Moon Valley area and grateful to continue to care for you during these times. We look forward to a swift return to normalcy. Stay healthy! Melanie Hull, DDS

btc creates impact B Y T O R E N O L S O N My mom always taught me that giving back to those in need is very important so I’ve been volunteering since I was 4 years old. Doing volunteer work taught me to appreciate the things I had because there are so many people in need of just the simple day to day living needs. It wasn’t until I joined boys team charity that I realized the impact I could be making with my volunteer work. btc made it easy for my mom and me to help more organizations more often. There are 15 different charities that we help so there is something for everyone. We’ve walked dogs at Home Fur Good, served meals at St Vincent De Paul, kept score for a Basketball game at the Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association, planted vegetables at Tiger Mountain Garden, wrapped gifts for Jaydie Lynn King Foundation, and so much more. Not only did btc allow me to help many more people but it also helped me grow into the person I am today. We learned important skills like how to maintain your car, CPR, and heard from many motivational and inspirational speakers. I realized this year the impact that btc has on the world. Not only because of the amount of organizations and helping others, but it also pushed me to be the best version of myself so that I will be able to help many more people throughout my life. You see, btc took the time to impact my class of 2020 and many others so we can impact other lives in hope that those people will impact other lives and so on. After many years, at some point, if everyone does their best to impact others, the whole world will be impacted for the greater good. boys team charity is a volunteer service organization dedicated to developing an altruistic spirit in young men through active participation by parents and sons in philanthropic projects in their communities. We are still accepting members for the 2020-2021 btc year for current 6th – 11th grade boys that live in the 85022, 85023, and 85029 zip codes. Social Distance Sewing Bee for Healthcare Face Masks B Y S A R A H WA L K E R
Sarah Walker started the Social Distancing Sewing Bee to make face masks for healthcare workers. She’s received requests for more than 1,000 masks! Though Arizona received 244,000 masks this month, there is still a huge deficit. Sarah organized an assembly line between numerous volunteers who are cutting fabric pieces, sewing, and inserting thank you cards. Volunteer drivers transport items between volunteers and then deliver to healthcare workers. Drop off locations have bins for drop off to avoid contact. More volunteers are needed to meet the increasing demand for masks. If you can’t sew, you can cut fabric pieces, donate supplies (fabric, elastic) or drive. Contact Sarah at (385) 227-6181 or Anne-Marie Olson at (602) 904-0388 for the link to sign up. There are other groups in the Moon Valley area doing this too so jump in and help anywhere you can!

Egypt and the River Nile BY SHANNON E. PERRY
In late 2019, my daughter, Julie, and I took our annual mother-daughter trip, this time to Egypt. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo was a highlight with wonderful displays of artifacts including the pride of the museum, King Tutankhamun’s tomb treasures which included his famous gold mask and sarcophagi. We wandered through markets in Cairo and saw a great variety of merchandise for sale including clothing, lamps, spices, water pipes, and in one instance, a cat for $5! In the Valley of the Kings, we visited three huge tombs with beautiful carvings in vivid colors that were still intact. And last, we went into King Tut’s tomb and saw his mummy and where all the treasures came from. We visited several temples including Denderah, Luxor and the massive Karnak temple. As a nurse I found the Edfu Temple in Kom Ombo most interesting. It had medical instruments pictured on the walls and a chart of when different doctors would be available. Abu Simbel, a massive carving of four Ramses IIs, built into the side of a hill was amazing. In a large multinational effort, the whole structure was moved to an artificial hill before the Aswan Dam was completed to control the yearly flooding in Egypt. At the Great Pyramid of Giza, we climbed inside to the burial chamber, which was empty, dusty, hot and claustrophobic. We were sweating a lot when we exited. We then drove on to see the Sphinx and “enjoyed” a short camel ride. Back in Cairo, we visited a church built over a cave where Jesus, Mary, and Joseph lived for three months during their flight into Egypt and a synagogue built where Moses was found in a basket among the bulrushes on the River Nile. A final visit was to the Muhammad Ali mosque from which Cassius Clay took his name after his conversion to Islam. We traveled with a great group and had a wonderful trip enhanced by our guide, Muhammad, one of the 14 Muhammads/Mohammads we encountered in our travels.
Since 1968, we’ve built an inclusive community, providing access for our members to critical programming, career training & job placement. Your donations ensure we keep Arizonans living with disabilities have the support they need to flourish in our society.

Moon Valley Neighborhoods: Coral Gables Estates BY JULIE PEK Behind the gate, Ivan greets residents and visitors to Coral Gables Estates. This community was established in the early 1980’s when folks started to buy parcels and build their custom homes. Most of the homes are on a minimum of ½ acre and some have amazing city views from atop Moon Mountain. In the 1990’s Gail and her husband Dom, bought a home behind the gate where they raised their family. “We were drawn to the area because of the large lots and all the privacy,” said Gail. “There are also two tennis courts in our neighborhood, and I play on them with my friends,” she added. With not a lot of turn-over, Gail and her family have developed many friendships over the years. “My mother visited quite often from the East, and even she became part of the neighborhood!” Gail said. Approximately 160 homes make up Coral Gables Estates. There is an HOA that serves the needs of the community and provides for the 24-hour manned guard gate. Home prices range from $650,000 to $2 million and most are over 3,000 sq. feet. Currently there are a few vacant lots available and ready to be built on. If you’re looking for privacy, and want to build your dream home, Coral Gables Estates could be your place! Contact me for more information.

Celebrating Our Graduating Seniors BY CH R I S T Y VA N D E R S E E
“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” - Coco Chanel This perfect quote set the stage for the National Charity League, Inc. (NCL, Inc.) Moon Valley Chapter Senior Recognition Class of 2020 event on March 1, 2020. The theme for the event was Chanel since the icon herself often spoke about how important it was for a woman to be an individual and think for herself – a quality that all our graduating seniors hold in spades. The Senior Recognition event serves as a way for our chapter to celebrate the accomplishments each of these young women and their mothers have achieved throughout their NCL journey. It provides a chance to share all the high school and NCL accomplishments of each senior, as well as their favorite philanthropy and leadership role. It also gives each girl an opportunity to talk about their future plans. In the beginning of this journey, some of these girls may have started off not knowing what to expect, while others were familiar with the organization through friends or siblings. Some were excited about it, while others may have been hesitant to start. One thing they all agreed upon as they reached their last year is that they had no regrets, only wonderful memories. This is a journey taken by their mother’s side at a time when teenage daughters might not be as close to their mothers as they once were during their younger years. At Senior Recognition, a common theme was heard when these young women said their farewells – they thanked their mothers for the experience of NCL.
In an elegant Chanel inspired program, the seniors each wrote a message to their mothers. Megan Bladine wrote, “Mom, I’m so glad that we joined NCL and stuck with it. You are such an inspiration and have helped me grow in my leadership and service, you have helped me become the person I am today, and I am thankful we have shared this 6-year journey together. Love you!” This is why NCL has become so important to me. My younger daughter and I joined when she was in the 7th grade, and she is now a freshman in high school. Looking at her across the table wearing a dress and heels, smiling as she was talking to a friend seated next to her (who she didn’t know before NCL), I was so happy. You see, she’s my quiet child. NCL has made her step out of her comfort zone. She has made new friends outside of her school and is holding leadership positions. One day, sooner than I’m truthfully ready for, it will be her Senior Recognition. I know she too will look back with fond memories at the 6 years with NCL, taking this journey by my side. NCL, Inc. is a philanthropic organization with over 200 chapters across the country that all share the mission of fostering strong mother-daughter relationships through community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. Members include girls ranging 7th to 12th grade along with their mothers. For more information, visit our website at moonvalley.nationalcharityleague.org

signs of hope & encouragement in Moon Valley
BY BRET ALDIERI, MVNA PRESIDENT
There are signs of hope an encouragement all around us and they are not hard to find. There’s no doubt that the collective “We” are in for some challenging times. If you watch the daily news (which is almost impossible to escape), the tone and tenor of the national conversation can be alarming. Much like prior storms, those of war, recession and even self-made political ones, this too is a storm that threatens our daily routines and even more seriously our mental and physical wellness. But like all storms, this one will eventually pass. I don’t advocate just waiting, it does pay to be prepared. I, like many of you, was shocked to go for my weekly grocery shopping trip a couple of weeks back (my wife and I go very early after our Saturday morning workout) to find no parking spots, no grocery carts, many emptied shelfs, and so many people. We spoke to those that work at our grocery store and they said, it was normal on Wed, then that Thursday the world changed. It’s clear that many people have panicked, but I’ve already started to see signs of recovery. Stores are working hard to keep shelfs stocked – mornings work best to find the “hard to get” items. It’s a good time for patience and extra manners. These are challenging times, so what is one to do. One way you can help, is to check in on your neighbors, especially those with medical conditions or the elderly that may not want to venture out. Offer to help-out, pick them up a few items when you are at the store, share some of what you have with them. This is the power of being an American and living in a community ours here in Moon Valley. Another way to be a good neighbor is to continue to support our local businesses. I visited the local pie shop this past weekend – ordered and paid on line, then did a “curb side” pickup.
I entitled this month’s article as such, because if you pause, and look around there are so many signs of hope and encouragement. Here are some that I have observed in the past few days. I saw a child’s drawing posted of a house colored like a rainbow, words of positive thinking written in chalk on the sidewalk, 2 teddy bears roasting marsh mellows around a fire pit, and many more US Flags flying. I also see more families on bike rides, out for walks with the dog. I spoke to one neighbor who said she had met or talked with more of her neighbors in the past week, then in the past year. I laughed when we drove past a neighbor’s house, where happy hour was being observed, with all sitting the advised social distance of 6 to 8 feet apart from each other. It’s time to be strong and stay positive. Our tag line for Moon Valley Neighborhood Association has been Neighbors helping Neighbors, and it’s times like these where this is needed more than ever. Stay positive, stay safe, stay healthy and reach out to help your neighbor. Let’s encourage each other with expressions of hope. Moon Valley - Neighbors helping Neighbors

The Lookout Mountain Lady Lions Clench the DIV 1 & DIV 2 Basketball Championships With two potentional championhips on the line, The Lookout Mountain Lady Lions were victorious! For the first time in Lookout Mountain school history both the A and B teams brought home the winning trophy! First up, the LOM Lady Lions B Team was up against Richard E. Miller Elementary. The B Team ladies were dominated by R.E. Miller’s defense for the first two quarters of the game. However, lead by Point Guard, Shannon Mcillroy, the Lady Lions rallied and pulled out a double overtime win! Next up, the Lady Lions A Team took the court angainst the Sunburst Blazers. Throughout the game, the Lady Lions led with a solid 9 point
lead. Not until the 4th quarter did the Blazers begin to fight back and were able to cut the Lions lead to just two points! Point Guard, Riley Burns was able to draw a last minute offensive foul and was successful at the free throw line, banking two shots. The Lions roared to victory with only 9 seconds remaining. “Both of our teams worked so hard to achieve this victory! All of their commitment and hard work paid off!” “As a coach, I could not be more proud of their teamwork and leadership.” ;says, A Team Coach, Nicole Burns. Fellow Coaches, Michelle Crutchfield and Laura May Myer echo the same words. This is truly an amzing group of girls that have made their school and community proud!
WESD During COVID
BY DR . PAUL S TANTON, SUPER INTENDENT, WESD
I would like to express my gratitude for the patience of the WESD community as we take action in support of the state and national efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19. I would also like to thank the WESD community for your understanding as this is a very fluid situation. To find the latest information, please go to our Web site at www.wesdschools.org or visit us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @WESDSchools. The WESD leadership team has been meeting to plan for the extended closures. Below are a few updates: Food and Nutrition: The WESD will provide free breakfast and lunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon at 13 sites. Meals will be available for a drive though or pick up. Children can pick up one sack lunch for that afternoon and one sack breakfast for the following day. All children 18 and under qualify and they do not have to be students in the WESD to participate. Per USDA regulations, children must be present to receive meals. Meals will be distributed outside at each location and, for the safety of all involved, not be consumed at the site. Please go to www.wesdschools.org/Domain/136 for a complete list of pick up locations. Educational Resources: Parents can find a link for educational resources at www. wesdschools.org/students. The page will provide educational resources to support ongoing enrichment. These activities are recommended as they can help keep children engaged in learning during school closures. WESD will continue to review options for providing educational resources to families and will provide updated information. Deep Cleaning: Our facilities managers conducted a deep clean of schools during the break, disinfecting high touch areas. Additionally, Nutrition Services and Facilities staff will continue increased precautions to ensure the health and safety of students and staff during the preparation and meal delivery program. Athletics: All WESD athletics including practices are suspended through the closure of schools. We will continue to update. Facility Usage: WESD has suspended all facility use rentals of buildings and fields through June 1. Field Trips: The WESD is evaluating field trips – out-of-state, out-of-county and local. All field trips during the closure will be cancelled. We will continue to update. COVID-19 Resources: We have additional resources available regarding COVID-19 on our website at www.wesdschools.org/Domain/136. This includes tips for talking to your child about the virus and some coping skills. There is also information for families who are seeking community resources related to food insecurity. Again, thank you so much, WESD community, for your patience and understanding during this fluid situation. Please share questions you have by emailing wesdcommserv@wesdschools.org. This will help us answer questions and add them to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on our website at www.wesdschools.org/ Domain/136. 20 April 2020 | info@mvtattler.com

We have a lot going for us here in Moon Valley aside from our proximity to so many different places and things; downtown events, skiing and hiking. Specifically though we are flanked by great family owned and operated restaurants, hair salons, dry cleaners, places to exercise and more. To the south of MV at 7th St and Thunderbird, then north of us at 7th St and Bell and finally right in the heart of our community at 7th St and Coral Gables. I can and do walk to the latter one we all call ‘The Barros Shopping Center’. On one of my walks there I stopped in to almost every single business. If my boys were still in the school band I might have a use for the Woodwinds place, but they aren’t. Phoenix Nutrition is more than a Shake Shop; they do so much to help folks stay healthy. The MVP Shoe Repair owner, Johnny sings their praises for helping him lose weight. I love that we have a shoe repair so close and without cigarette smoke. Not only does he fix shoes, but all leather goods as well as alters clothing and changes watch batteries. I tried to drop off my belt to get another hole poked in it, but he did it on the spot, no charge. I’m so glad that Mamma Toledo’s Pie Hole has stayed open, because it took me forever to get in there. I thought it was only pies and I’m trying not to have sugar. However, once I tasted her pot pies it was all over. It’s an amazing place. We went there for breakfast one day after church and it was amazing. When we return from a road trip, I pop in for our dinner, because I am not cooking after driving all day. I appreciate a little sign they post asking that if we have cash to please use it instead of a credit card because the processing fees they had to pay last year were $6,144.85! I had no idea and am more than happy to pay with cash if it will help keep our little mom and pop businesses in MV here. Gary got a great massage at Compliments, another locally owned salon. We’ve use Moon Valley Dry Cleaners for our leather jackets. Gary hasn’t tried the Barbershop since it closed and reopened yet. The Moon Valley Grill has the best wings and some of our friends have a standing date there for drinks and fellowship every week. Barros is family owned and an institution in Moon Valley. They hire our kids and support our teams and clubs. Valleywide Pool Supply is owned by a biochemist. Richard is a super nice guy. When Gary pops in to shop he’s always there so long visiting that I’m worried he got lost! To be fair, I stopped in at Yoga Pura even though I’m not a huge yoga fan. I’ve always been impressed by their signage that Veterans are free because they’ve already paid enough, but was even more so, because I had no idea how extensive their place is. They have 3 separate yoga rooms with classes running simultaneously! No wonder the parking lot is so packed sometimes. I also visited Moon Valley Bible Church one Sunday. They had a great message and wonderful
music. Last on the strip is Anytime Fitness. I love it there. I know that most reputable places like the Pilate Studio clean their equipment after each use, but at AF there are sanitizing wipe stations scattered in several places around the gym. In addition to their daily custodian team, members wipe off the equipment before and after themselves all day and night! The personal training classes are exceptional, but I also like to do my own workout, channeling my knowledge from running a fitness center in the ‘80s and teaching aerobics. It’s been fun challenging myself and coming up with new and varied routines. It’s invigorating and makes me crave being there. I like to support local family owned businesses, even though I also frequent other nearby big box stores as well. Today I was reading a ‘Next Door’ post about local eateries and was shocked that the person didn’t know how many we have! The Aiello’s own three yummy places at 7th St and Thunderbird, we frequent them a lot. They are near Second Home Pet Resort. What a great service right here close to home, with daycare, boarding and grooming. On the same SE corner is Wild Tuna and across the street; Candy’s Kitchen, a Pho place, Soup and Sausage, Il Asilyo and Moon Valley Café. I just found out about Yutaka by Hobby Lobby at 7th St and Bell that makes great sushi rolls and further up 7th St on Union Hills there’s a Mexican place I didn’t know about called Mi Pueblo! Dolled and Dapper by the Dairy Queen just opened 10 months ago and the ladies are masters with hair. That’s my new place. I also learned that Red Devil Pizza is locally owned! I’m sure that there are many more places to eat and patronize that are locally owned and operated. I’m going to take a drive around one of these days when it warms up and I can have the top down and see what I can see. In these trying times, we need to support each other and the economy. I’ll be making another trip to see Johnny at MVP shoe repair. I need another hole in my belt and this time I insist on paying!

APR= Annual Percentage Rate. Promotional APR applies only to new HELOCs with a minimum loan amount of $10,000 and a maximum loan-to-value (LTV) of 80%. $50 annual fee applies; waived for Rewards+ Members. See Statements of Terms, Conditions, and Disclosures for full Relationship Rewards details. Promotional APR is fixed for initial 12 months of the term. On the first calendar day of the 13th month following loan closing date, APR will convert to the variable rate plan as described in the applicable loan documents. Subsequent APR may vary based on the index rate, plus a margin. Index rate is based on the Prime Rate as published in the Wall Street Journal. On April 1, 2020 that index was 3.25%; resulting APR with a 0.875% margin is 4.125%. Floor rate at the end of the initial 12-month period is 3.50%. APR will never exceed 18.00%. "As low as" rate assumes excellent borrower credit history, loan amount of $75,000 or more, and 60% or less Loan-to-Value. Alternative rates and terms are available. Actual rates and APRs dependent on credit history, type of product, loan term and loan to value (LTV). This line has a 10-year draw period. Minimum monthly payment will be principal and interest amortized over a 30-year repayment term. Eligible property includes single-family, owner-occupied, primary residence and vacation homes (located in AZ only). Property insurance required. Interest may be tax deductible. Consult your tax professional regarding deductibility. Closing costs are waived unless the loan is paid off within the first three years. An estimated range of fees is $200 to $750. NMLS ID #509455 1

(But from the safety of home) Take a Good Look at Your Space BY PAI G E LE W IS, ALLIED A SID, PAI G E LE W IS D E SI G NS During this time of quarantine, a lot of us are finding the time to take a good look at our homes and see what projects need to be done for resale or for our own enjoyment. It can be a little overwhelming! I suggest you get a notepad and start taking a “tour” of your home. What stands out? Do you need to paint? Are there repairs that need to be done? Are you simply tired of your décor? Write it all down and then prioritize. Paint can be the biggest bang for your buck. Most of us can wield a paint brush so, if there’s not much to do, this is an easy DIY project. If you’re more ambitious, call a professional and let them do the heavy lifting. Wall color for both interiors and exteriors are trending toward light hues right now. That doesn’t mean there isn’t any personality. The palette of light colors is vast and so timeless. With another hot summer around the corner, take this opportunity to lighten and brighten and get rid of the heavy dark colors of the past! This is the perfect time to assess what repairs need to be done. Are there holes in the drywall? Are your ceiling fans hanging by a thread? Are your sink and shower faucets worn out? Take a hard look at anything that isn’t fully operational. Maybe this is a good time to replace! I have a friend whose son was using a wrench to operate his shower when he was home from college because a handle had broken off! What?! There are wonderful options for every budget and style. Rearrange your space with what you already have! Make the living room, you never sit in, the dining room and the old dining room your home office! Put all your artwork and tchotchkes in one room and go through them. Pretend like you just moved in and find new homes for your things. You’ll be surprised how fresh things look when they’re moved to a new spot. Making some changes in your home can be a nice distraction from the stress we are under. Enlist the whole family to help rejuvenate and reorganize. Have fun with it and stay well!
Just Give In BY TAY LO R N EL SO N As we are quarantining, lacking normalcy, many having kids home from school, and being asked to stay in as often as possible, I find myself going back to what I experienced in August. This past summer, I attended a 10 day silent meditation course- 11 hours of quiet meditation a day with no electronics, no reading, writing, exercise, eye contact, or physical contact with any of the other attendees. Crazy, right? But I willingly underwent this seemingly prison-like experience, because I know people who have done it, and I saw the transformative power it had on their lives. The first couple days were extremely difficult. I wanted to adjust my posture every five minutes. I felt fidgety and agitated. I wanted to go check my phone. I felt hungry and wished I had the freedom to mindlessly snack (we were given breakfast, lunch, and a piece of fruit and tea for dinner). I was annoyed that the walls were blank, with nothing to stimulate my mind with. I thought I was going to go crazy... But by day three, something magical happened. I gave up the fight. I noticed everything I was resisting, and I surrendered to it. Instead of wishing I was somewhere else, instead of focusing on the discomfort of sitting for long periods of time, or waiting for the 10th day when I could go home- I let go. I realized that any resistance I had was only amplifying my suffering. When I accepted where I was in each moment, I learned kindness and compassion towards myself. I learned to fall in love with the quiet. And, a whole new world opened up for me as a result. I started to see how my breath has carried me this far. I listened to past feelings deep within that were never given any love and attention. I tended to my child within. I believe the effects of these uncertain times has caused a lot of agitation, fear, annoyance, and even feelings of going crazy! I’ve experienced many of these emotions myself. But, what I have also observed is a subtle, beautiful, transformation beginning to occur among humanity. Being stripped of our normalcy has caused us to look a little deeper. I believe we are to not only take this time to stay within our homes, but to go within our own being. The outer world appears to be shutting down, but we can allow an inner world to open up. We can let go of the resistance of these current times, and find little doses of magic within this moment right here and now. The key: Gratitude!

Keeping Moon Valley Pools Clean
Why Invest in a Surface Robot olar-Breeze NX2 makes pool cleaning well, a breeze! Just place it in your pool, flip the switch, and watch it go. From an easy to remove and clean debris tray, to intelligent navigation, Solar-Breeze NX2 was designed to make pool cleaning hassle-free for you. The sliding tray easily pulls out to dump collected debris from your pool. A built-in filter mesh gets even the finest materials, like pollen, hair and suntan lotions. Give the tray a quick rinse, slide back in, and your Solar-Breeze NX2 is ready to clean again. Having your pool cleaned automatically with our robot means more time enjoying your pool. We are a locally owned, family run business who decided enough was enough when it came to pool cleaning. Pools are in the sun, so let’s use the sun to clean them, saving energy costs. Hand skimming is a pain and does not do a good job, so no more hand skimming. Chlorine dispersal was really inefficient before our robot came along, which means savings on chemical use. It’s very important that swimming pools be maintained constantly: that is near impossible to do without an automated surface skimmer. Especially during this time when you are home more and you may not be able to have your pool service team coming by as much, Solar-Breeze NX2 works hard daily to keep your pool swim ready, the water crystal clear and HEALTHY.
Don’t you want a swim ready pool to help take your mind off everything else? Kim S., a Moon Valley pool owner, shared how pleased she is with her robot:
“
Our backyard creates lots of debris. My husband is a gardner, loves all kinds of plants and flowers and especially loves pot gardening. The top of the pool has always been covered in pollen and pieces of flowers and leaves. It would take an hour to try to get everything out and I could never get the pollen or film off the top. I got my Solar Breeze NX2 and the top is super clean. I love it is putting it mildly. My daughter in is even going to get one!”
Go online today to learn more about Solar-Breeze NX2 and see if it’s the right fit for you. Our team will be ready to safely ship your robot straight to your door. Buying with us supports a local Arizona business, helps the environement, & helps you! Plus, every Solar-Breeze NX2 sold in April DONATES $50 to local nonprofit Pal Experiences and their mission of accessibility for all. Join our NX2 family and see just how quickly you fall in love with your pool again.
