SWIMMING HELPS BUILD TRUST AND CONFIDENCE

FROM A YOUNG AGE

It is so important to share some precious time with your little ones. In swimming classes, all your attention is on your baby, which gives you a great opportunity to bond and enjoy the water together. Babies learn fast and in the first years, it’s a lot about their parents and their relationship with them. Plenty of interaction with parents builds trust, and so swimming together helps develop that confidence between you. The Aqualight Babies program provides a holistic approach to your baby’s water development. They will teach you how to swim with your baby, as well as enhancing your bond and communication between you and your baby. Visit their website to learn more about their baby swimming program. If you live in or know of an area which you feel may benefit from having one of their youth clubs established, then please contact gemma@cypn.org to discuss the possibilities.

TISKA (Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association) heads up clubs nationally and internationally. TISKA was established by Gursharan Sahota, the Chief Instructor (8th Dan) and founder who is delighted to be celebrating TISKA’s 30th Anniversary this year. He achieved the high grade of 8th Dan in 2015 and was asked to accept the title of “Shihan” meaning Master Instructor. This title is given as a sign of respect for the person named. Shihan currently teaches over 40 classes per week to students in Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Peter, Amersham, Berkhamsted, Dunstable, Maidenhead, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire and has bought many hundreds of students to Black belt standard and beyond. Karate is the ultimate in self-defence and promotes fitness, self-awareness, confidence, etiquette, respect and self-discipline. Students at TISKA start from the age of 4 upwards, and as a family-based club, many families train together. Shihan offers all new beginners four weeks free training upon joining TISKA. LOCAL RSPCA BRANCH SEEKS FUNDING TO OPEN THEIR OWN, MUCH-NEEDED ANIMAL RESCUE CENTRE

RSPCA Northamptonshire

Branch is independent from the National RSPCA. Their branch is totally self-funding and relies heavily on fundraising and donations. The RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes animals that have been subjected to neglect, mistreatment, abuse or abandonment. This is done through the provision of key services including referrals for vet treatment, rehabilitation and rehoming, community education and outreach, information and advice resources, financial assistance for those on low incomes through their subsidised vet’s service, and a pet food bank.

The need for their services is increasing almost daily. They now receive over a hundred calls a month for help. As such, they are seeking funding to open their own animal centre, focused on rehabilitation and rehoming of those animals most in need. Sadly, they cannot do this alone, and desperately need your help to raise funds to open this much needed centre. For any help, donations or fundraising please contact richard.burns@rspca-northamptonshire.org.uk

“Pupils enjoy coming to school and say they feel safe and happy.”

“Parents also recognise that the school has been improving rapidly recently. As one parent told us, ‘All staff are dedicated, and the school is going from strength to strength.’”

“Leaders at the school have changed many things since their arrival. They have engaged with the pupils, parents and the wider community in their work to improve the school.”

The school are incredibly proud of their achievements and would welcome you to visit to see them in action. Their Open Day is on Thursday 6th October 5-8pm. This is your opportunity to meet staff and students and tour the Academy.

WIN THE WONDERFUL CHILDREN’S BOOK ‘MAGSTER AND THE LIGHT OF THE LADYBIRD’ BY KIT BUTLER, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR HIMSELF!

Kit Butler, the author, lives in the Midlands and has been an avid reader since childhood, but his real passion for writing came later in life. Kit created the Magster stories inspired by his own dog, a beloved Cockapoo called Maggie. Magster and the Light of the Ladybird is the first book in a series of fantastic adventures for Magster. Magster and her human daddy, Paul, go for a walk in the woods. A mysterious stranger recruits her as a special agent for the Mystic Council of Mages. Her first mission is to protect the “Light of the Ladybird” and so their adventures begin. After a nail-biting duel, Magster’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with is sealed and her work with the Mystic Council has only just begun.

Five lucky readers will win a signed book, a postcard and a bookmark! To be in with a chance of winning, send us your entry marked ‘Magster’ and you will be placed into our prize draw. Please be sure to include your address for your prize to be posted.
