Vaccinations don’t stop at primary school Immunisation is one of the most effective ways to protect young people from serious illness and help keep the whole school community healthy. Throughout secondary school, students are offered important vaccines against flu, HPV and meningococcal disease (MenACWY), alongside the teenage booster and any missed MMR vaccinations. From September 2026, the local NHS school age immunisation service will contact parents and guardians by email or text with a secure online consent form. Please respond promptly and support your child to receive the vaccinations offered, giving them valuable protection now and into adulthood. W: www.nhs.uk

Give your child their best defence against flu Flu cases often rise in December and January, but it’s not too late to protect your child. Flu can be unpleasant for children, causing fever, aches, tiredness, and in some cases can lead to serious illness requiring hospital treatment. Most children receive the vaccine as a quick, painless nasal spray. It’s effective and has been used in the UK for over ten years. School-aged children will be offered the vaccine in school, return the consent form sent to make sure your child doesn’t miss out. Children aged 2 and 3 and children with long-term health conditions can also access the vaccine at their GP practice. Community pharmacies also offer flu vaccinations for children. A new look for MGS Sport Following a long and successful partnership with O’Neill’s, The Manchester Grammar School has taken the opportunity to review its sports kit provision and consider how it can best support pupils and the school’s sporting provision in the years ahead. From the 2026-27 academic year, MGS will partner with Castore, a British performance sportswear brand with an established presence across elite sport, including cricket, rugby, football and tennis. With a focus on innovation, durability and high-quality technical fabrics, Castore will provide pupils with sportswear designed to be comfortable, practical and built to withstand the demands of school sport. The move also provides an opportunity to refresh the look and feel of MGS sportswear and return to the School’s traditional colours of Oxford and Cambridge Blue. Over time, the kit evolved towards a lighter ‘sky blue’ so the introduction of a new supplier provides a natural moment to reconnect with this important part of the School’s heritage and create a more consistent and distinctive identity across all sports.
