A round-up of news from the area, including some important water safety information from RNLI, details of extracurricular activities for children, and some great events taking place over the next few months.
The RNLI is more than just a rescue service; they educate people about water safety too! It’s a core part of their work and to keep children safe they have four key safety messages.
1 Stop and think – of any potential hazards before entering the water.
2 Stay together – it is safer to enter the water when with an adult.
3 Float – if you fall into cold water, float on your back until you have controlled your breathing, then call for help and raise your hand to draw attention, or swim to safety if you’re able to do so.
4 Call 999/112 – if you see someone in danger in the water, ask an adult to call 999/112 immediately.
If you’re a parent, sign your little ones up to Storm Force membership and get real rescue stories, cool facts, and fun activities in the quarterly magazine. Visit www.RNLI.org/PrimaryTimesSF to find out more.
The RNLI offer a wide range of curriculum linked educational materials and lesson plans, and schools can arrange a FREE visit from a RNLI water safety volunteer. Ask your teacher to visit www.RNLI.org/education to find out how your school can make a lifesaving difference.
