Introduction

My name is Samantha Shipley and I am a graduating senior in the fall class of 2020. I have always found myself creating from a young age and decided to turn that passion into a life career. My love for hand-created illustrations is what drives my passion and it is my hope to create a brand for myself that turns hand-crafted art into sellable and fruitful designs.

This project titled “Trifecta Chick”, is a large-scale branding of a fictional company to showcase the skills and growth through my journey in the visual communication design program. The Trifecta Chick’s mission is to create psychedelic collectable designs for retro-pop fans and history connoisseurs alike. Deliverables include packaging for unique collectable items, original character design for well-known psychedelic musicians, poster design and merchandise design.

Designers Statement

This project titled “Trifecta Chick”, is a large-scale branding of a fictional company to showcase the skills and growth through my journey in the visual communication design program. The Trifecta Chick’s mission is to create psychedelic collectable designs for retro-pop fans and history connoisseurs alike. Deliverables include packaging for unique collectable items, original character design for well-known psychedelic musicians, poster design and merchandise design.

Background Story

The brand “Trifecta Chick” exists to connect those who lived through the Psychedelic 60’s with those who have a peak interest in psychedelic culture and icons to spark conversation and bridge the gap between a generation who have more in common than they might believe. We want to erase the stigma of “Baby Boomers” and what it stands for today to show that everyone was young once and everyone deserves to enjoy the factors of their youth. We value our elders and want to create a brand that will cater to the forgotten icons and joys of their youthhood all while connecting with newer generations.

About the Brand (Who is Trifecta Chick?)

Trifecta Chick is a retro-pop collectable company that combines the funky style of the Psychedelic 60s’ with popular musicians and icons who ruled the decade. With the rise of pop-culture connoisseurs in an era of throwbacks, nostalgia and retro-essence behavior, Trifecta Chick was created to spark a conversation between two generations that share a common interest. We aim to show that through our packaging that design can be powerful as we ode to the psychedelic Avant gardenesque graphic styles of the decade. Design can and will bridge the gap between the two generations and create an experience of freedom, culture, conversation and happiness for all who choose to engage. Our vision is to create a company that will withstand the test of time. We aim to keep one of the greatest design and culture eras alive and buzzing. Within the next 5 years, Trifecta Chick will become a topic of conversation and remain an important brand in the pop-culture industry. We aim to connect, converse, and express.

The Mission

Trifecta Chick has created a mission to show the power of interesting design. Sparking artistic conversation and creating visually interesting package design engages teh onlooker to “Take a trip with Trifecta Chick. Trifecta Chick values all of humanity and seeks to form connections through our designs and products Not only do we believe in our younger generation, but those who raised us and have a story to share. We live for passion and aim to create funky fun for our brand and our customers.

Many competitor pop-culture companies only produce and sell licensed merchandise. Trifecta Chick considers our merchandise and packaging pieces of art and an ode to avant-garde styles of the 1960’s. We aim to express a newfound freedom in our designs and to present a powerful design to culture connoisseurs everywhere regardless of age and background. We aim to show a new style of collectable designs and create a brand that pop culture connoisseurs and retro buffs have been searching for.

Tone and Audience

Trifecta Chick is a funky, free-loving and expressive brand that wants to show the power design has in everyday life. We are accepting of everyone regardless of age and background and aim to connect those who share a common interest of the Psychedelic 60’s. The target audience consists to main groups: those grew up during the 60’s (56-74) and those who have a peak interest in 60’s culture and music (18-30). Of course our brand is open for anyone and everyone who shows an interest.

Persona A

The main target audience for Trifecta Chick are people aged 50-65. These are the ones who grew up and spend a portion of there life in the Psychedelic 60’s. The goal is to bring back feeling of nostalgia and create conversation about the era and design.

Persona B

Trifecta Chick’s second main target consumer are people aged 18-25. These are the people who have taken an interest in the Psychedelic era and are able to connect with with those who experienced the era first hand.

Final Logo

This is the final color and graphic logo for Trifecta Chick. As the logo was being rendered, the goal was to communicate two main points, the company name and a psychedelic essence. These ideas range from rays of sunshine to peace sign symbols. It was finally decided the vast majority of participants that mushrooms were the best way to represent the style and era. The colors were to remain reminiscent and true to the era hence the muted bright and the darker hues.
