Pure Wool Upholstery Fabrics for the Contract, Commercial & Workplace Environment www.moons.co.uk
Heritage | Design | Quality Abraham Moon & Sons is one of England’s rare, fully vertically integrated woollen mills. ‘Vertical’ is an old term from the Victorian era, meaning that, from start to finish, materials move through the mill in chronological order. We are proud of our status and recognise its rarity in a landscape where many mills and fabric manufacturing companies

in the UK must outsource certain processes. We are passionate about what we do, and that means ensuring that our generations of skill and expertise are passed down to preserve the longevity and authenticity of our craft, meaning we do not need to outsource.
From fibre to finish, our in-house designers work closely with teams across the mill to produce designs to exacting standards. Inside the mill, wool is dyed and blended before being made into yarn. The yarn is then woven into the final design, manually inspected and, where faults are identified, mended by hand before undergoing final treatments (including FR treatment upon request) and finishing. Rolls of fabric are then cut, packaged and stored in our warehouse, ready to be sent to our customers. In-house quality assurance ensures that cloth meets both British Standards and bespoke project requirements.

Sustainability at Moon Our Leeds-based historic woollen mill is a vertical operation, meaning we are able to manage all processes from a single site.
We are able to manage every process of fabric production
of yarn, to weaving the fabric, to finishing the final product.

on this one site alone, from the raw wool, to the production
the impacts a historic woollen mill could pose if not carefully managed.
Wool is our passion, and our approach is made up of four key foundations: Product (creating cloth from responsibly sourced materials, working with suppliers and customers who share our vision, certifications and traceability), Process (changing our approach when needed, using data to track our efficiencies and future targets, proper waste management), People (training, care, compliance), and Community (exploring connections with local charities and schools, enhancing our reputation in our local community).
Our Wool As part of our commitments, we ensure that all material is sourced from reputable suppliers. Our pure wool fibres are sourced predominantly from New Zealand, where our long-term supplier ensures that sourced wool comes from farms that adhere to the Five Freedoms. These Five Freedoms ensure that the well-being of livestock is prioritised, ensuring they have a high quality of life. Specifically, these Freedoms include:
•
Freedom from discomfort and exposure,
•
Freedom from pain, injury and disease,
•
Freedom from fear and distress,
•
Freedom to express normal behaviour.
In addition, we are part of the Wool Integrity New Zealand (WINZ) network. WINZ-certified wool is traceable to farm thanks to robust systems and record-keeping. Only wool that adheres to the guidelines of the programme may qualify for the WINZ brand.
