Accounting Clerk JOB DESCRIPTION: The Accounting Clerk is responsible for the day to day transactional activities of the organization, which may include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll. Responds to and resolves questions and problems related to the assigned areas. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. An understanding of the transactional processing within the accounting system. News Release from Moody County Historical Society The Moody County Historical Society (MCHS) has announced in the 2020 summer newsletter that it received a gift of $5000 in April from Flandreau native Dr. Bruce Ramsdell to be invested in the Society’s permanent endowment fund. In addition, Dr. Ramsdell had pledged another $10,000 for the fund on a matching basis. In making this announcement, Roxee Johnson, President of the MCHS Board of Trustees, said, “This was a great opportunity for the museum to more than double the value of its endowment fund. We really appreciate Bruce’s donation and pledge, and all of his prior support.” The MCHS Board decided in 2016 to start a permanent fund with an initial deposit of $10,000. The Fund is managed by the South Dakota Community Foundation and makes available from earnings annual distributions to MCHS in an amount up to 4.5% of the value of the fund. These dollars give MCHS opportunity to expand its programs and services. The Fund’s earnings have exceeded the amount distributed thereby enabling the fund to continue to grow. Roxee went on to say, “This growth, along with additional donations, will provide financial support for the museum and its programs indefinitely into the future.” Joshua Kellogg, Director of the Museum, included an announcement of Dr. Ramsdell’s pledge in the MCHS 2020 summer issue of its newsletter and invited members to make donations to match his pledge. Others who have previously supported the museum were contacted by mail. “The response has been great and we reached our goal within four months!” Kellogg went on to say, “In addition to local people, and others throughout South Dakota, donations have come in from Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon, Nevada and Nebraska. All have some connection to Moody County and we appreciate their interest in helping preserve the local history.” He added that Dr. Ramsdell in recent years has taken advantage of resources the museum has on file to research his family history and other matters. “The annual program in observance of Veterans’ Day at the Community Center is cancelled this year, in the spirit of doing what we can to stop the spread of COVID-19,” said Bridget Flannery, VFW Commander. But that doesn’t mean that the observation shouldn’t happen, she added. “Veterans’ Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by all those who’ve worn the uniform of our country’s armed services. It’s a time to remember the sacrifices made by Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines – and by their families. Reflection does not have to be done at a community center.” Flannery provided some suggestions on how Veterans’ Day might look in a year of pandemic. Offering a moment of silence to just still your mind and be grateful for what servicemen and women do is one option. If it fits with your faith tradition, offering a prayer of thanksgiving is another great observance. “And you could pick up the phone. If you’re a Veteran, call one of your friends. Relive some moments. If you’re not a Veteran – call one. Encourage one another, and laugh a little. Who doesn’t need more of that this year?” One thing every American can do, pandemic or not, Flannery said, is to do their part to ensure November 11th is not just another paid day off. “There’s so much we can’t control because of COVID,” Flannery said, “but what we can control – we ought to.” VFW Post 3351 is looking forward to hosting the Veterans’ Day Program in 2021, business as usual. 40% Drop in Donor Scheduling Due to COVID Social Distancing Protection Flandreau, SD- Community Blood Bank, a joint cooperative of Sanford and Avera Health, is seeking additional donations to continue to improve the blood supply coming off a critical shortage. The need for donations continues, as policies associated with social distancing and disinfecting techniques to provide safe environments for donors and staff reduce the overall collection capacity by 40%. Please consider donating blood at the Flandreau Community Center (802 West Community Dr.) on Wednesday, November 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. “We are looking for donors with A and O positive blood types, which comprises over 70% of all blood usage at our local hospitals, states Kenneth Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank and Community Blood Bank Board of Directors. “Pressure on the local blood supply has continued to increase as we see a large increase in usage over the last 3 weeks centered on more surgeries and multiple emergency cases. Additionally, restrictions are placed on the blood bank as we limit the number of donors that we can process per hour to provide social distancing and time for proper cleaning between donors. It’s extremely important for donors to schedule their appointment for our community blood drives over the next two weeks as surges in COVID positive cases is preventing more people from donating.” Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org) weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health.
