The Trojan Zone is seeking to hire a Bookstore Program Assistant I. Event to Impact Local Blood Supply This Fall Flandreau, SD- Flandreau High School and Flandreau’s Community Blood Bank are joining forces to help ward off fall blood shortages by hosting a blood drive event. The blood drive will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at Flandreau High School from 7:30 am to 11:00 am and 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. All blood donations will stay local for local use.

Every three seconds someone needs blood, and the only way to ensure that those needs are met is to rely on volunteer donors to donate blood. The need for local blood donors is immense. The Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in the region.

Among those who benefit from donated blood are trauma and burn victims, cancer patients and persons undergoing surgery.

“The fall can be a difficult time to maintain an adequate blood supply for the community,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “With people addressing elective surgeries before the end of the year and an increase in travel accidents creates a high need for blood products, data shows a steady increase in usage as we go through the fall season.”

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. Please bring an ID with you at the time of donation. The Project Assistant will provide day to day operations of the office for all Project staff which include: coordinating meetings/travel, processing and filing various forms of paperwork, maintain and archive Dakota Language curriculum, media and other materials, track activities for monthly reporting, assist with any community or educational events the programs may be having.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Must have a high school diploma or GED, would prefer someone with experience working with language and/or cultural programs.

2. Must be willing to attend program meetings, classes, and activities.

3. Must be willing to assist with written reports and making presentations to various audiences.

4. Must have the ability to operate a computer and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Suite.

5. Must have experience in maintaining computer records and data.

Summary: The Project Coordinator will implement the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe’s three (3) year Education Demonstration Grant and satisfy the objectives identified in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the “Tribe” and the Flandreau Public School District. The Project Coordinator will collaborate with the FSST’s Education Department and Dakota Language/Cultural program, school administration, and parent committees to implement the Grant. In addition, the Project Coordinator will oversee the Johnson O’ Malley 638 BIA Contract program; supervise the Dakota Language Director, School Liaisons and the Project Assistant.

Minimum Qualifications: • Must have graduated with a 4 year college degree in Education or closely related filed. A combination of education and five (5) years’ experience in the specific field may be considered.

• Must have demonstrated an interest and commitment to language revitalization by participation in community language classes or other Language/Culture Program activities.

• Should possess strong communication skills and eagerness to teach.

Minimum Qualifications: • Must be a high school graduate. Must have completed a minimum of two (2) years of college in Education, Social Work, Family Studies, Child Development or closely related field highly preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Must have administrative experience with coordinating, planning, organizing and implementing meetings and programs for a diverse audience.

• Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to maintain computer records and data.

• Must have experience in preparing written reports.

• Must be able to work occasional evening and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s Degree required with Education focus preferred, 2-3 years of experience with higher education programs, grant writing, scholarships or other similar related duties strongly preferred.

2. Possession of a valid SD Driver’s license and insurable by the FSST. Willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment. Must submit to a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and P.L. 101-630 background check.

3. Ability to handle multiple tasks and/or projects and occasionally work odd hours.

4. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to interface with a wide range of stakeholders, internal staff, advisory/school boards/parent boards, committee members and community members as well as young people and parents.

5. Direct experience with native youth and cultural sensitivity and knowledge education program planning, development, implementation and evaluation strongly preferred.

PUBLIC NOTICE SUMMARY OF FLANDREAU, SOUTH DAKOTA CITY ORDINANCE, TITLE 13, TRAFFIC CODE; CHAPTER 13.7 SNOWMOBILE OPERATIONS No snowmobile shall be operated with the City unless it is registered and identification numbers are displayed as required.

No person may operate a snowmobile on a city street: • At a rate of speed greater than is reasonable having due regard for conditions and in no event in excess of 20 mph • While under the influence of liquor or drugs • Except while proceeding to and returning from the city limits by the most direct route from his home or place where said snowmobile is garaged • In any cemetery • On private property without the consent of the property owner or his agent • With more than one (1) passenger on a snowmobile Any person operating a snowmobile on a city street must: • • • •

Come to a complete stop at all traffic controlled intersections Travel as close to the right edge of the plowed area of the street as practical Obey all traffic signals, signs and devices Yield the right-of-way to all-vehicular traffic and pedestrians

No snowmobile shall be operated to cross any street except at a street intersection of a street.

No person shall operate a snowmobile in the City of Flandreau in a careless or negligent manner likely to endanger any person or property.

No person shall operate a snowmobile upon any public sidewalk.

No person operating a snowmobile shall tow any person or object behind except when such person or object is situated upon a conveyance that is attached by means of rigid hitch or tow bar.

No snowmobile shall be operated in the City unless it has at least one (1) headlight and one (1) taillight turned on at all times during operation; adequate brakes; and is equipped with a muffler in good working order in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise.

The operator of a snowmobile involved in an accident resulting in injuries to or death of any person or property damage in an estimated amount of $100.00 or more must report the accident to Law Enforcement Personnel.

It is presumed that any snowmobile operated within the City is operated with the consent of the owner. The owner of the snowmobile will be held jointly and severally liable with the driver thereof for damages arising out of the negligent or improper operation of his snowmobile.

The owner of a snowmobile may be held jointly and severally liable to a property owner for three (3) times the amount of damages to trees, shrubs, landscaping, or personal property occurring on private property and caused by said snowmobile where the snowmobile is operated without the consent of the property owner or agent.

Law Enforcement Personnel may confiscate any machine, which is operated contrary to or in violation of any provisions of this ordinance.

Any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance is guilty of a misdemeanor and is punishable according to the general provision of this ordinance.

In addition to penalties provided for by the general penalty provisions Title 13 - Traffic Code, violators' vehicles may be towed and the owner thereof shall be required to pay the reasonable charges therefor plus storage at a reasonable daily rate.

PUBLIC NOTICE SUMMARY OF FLANDREAU CITY ORDINANCE TITLE 5, ARTICLES 5.3.1.p. AND 5.4.2.2., SNOW AND ICE REMOVAL The City shall notify all owners or persons in possession of property abutting on sidewalks to keep such sidewalks free from snow and ice and to remove the same within 72 hours after every fall or accumulation of snow or ice. The notice need not be given personally but may be given

generally through the official newspaper annually.

The owner or person in possession of any property abutting on any sidewalk shall keep such sidewalk free from snow and ice and shall remove any snow and ice from the sidewalks within seventy-two (72) hours after the termination of any snow fall, snow or ice accumulation.

The owner or person in possession of any property abutting upon any sidewalk that ends at an intersection or crosswalk shall maintain the sidewalk free from snow and ice to the edge of the street and will also clear any snow and ice deposited on the sidewalk during the street removal process.

Those sidewalks not cleared of said snow and ice within seventy-two (72) hours will be considered a public nuisance. The City may cause said snow and ice to be cleared from those sidewalks in violation of said Ordinance and will bill those costs to the property owner.
