ATTENTION COLMAN TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS The Colman Township Board of Supervisors want you to know it is against the law SDCL 31-32-7 to farm the right of way on township roads. Doing so creates a liability for the township, the landowner & the person doing the farming if it is someone other than the landowner. Therefore if anyone in Colman Township does farm the right of way, the board of supervisors have the right to destroy the crop and restore the road to it’s original condition and send you the bill. There have already been court cases on this issue and the court has ruled in favor of the township. Along that same line, South Dakota Codified Law says it is the landowner’s responsibility to remove weeds, trees, and brush, 31-31-2 or the township can have this done and assess it to your property taxes. SDCL 31-32-3.1 states that it is against the law to dump any material or cargo in the right of way and that includes rocks and other debris. Please help us to keep our township roads in good shape and make them safe for the motoring public. Doing so will mean we will have to spend less tax dollars dealing with violations of these sections of code.

LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO CREATE FLANDREAU’S 150TH LOGO The committee for the 2019 Flandreau Sesquicentennial Anniversary (150th anniversary) is looking for someone who can answer that question artistically and depict the city’s history through a logo. The logo will be used on T-shirts, buttons, advertising and other promotional products or souvenirs. There’s a benefit for helping - $200 and a T-shirt (with your logo on it) from the event. Drawings can be drawn by hand or computer generated. If drawn, they must be done on a 8 ½ x 11 inch bright white paper using black ink. If computer generated, they must be sent as in high resolution (300 dpi) jpg or a pdf. Please send your creation to mlheadrick@gmail.com or drop off at the Moody County Enterprise. Status: Hourly - Non Exempt Summary: Tribal Police Officers are responsible for enforcing federal, tribal ordinances and municipal law and order codes adopted by the tribe; provide criminal and civil regulatory enforcement through tribal court; patrol tribal lands; investigate crimes; traffic control; collect evidence; prepare reports; serve warrants and summons. On an assigned shift: operate a patrol vehicle, foot patrol suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order; respond to radio dispatched calls, answer calls and complaints; issue traffic and criminal citations; control individual and group actions through verbal direction and/or the employment of necessary physical force; make custodial arrests and testify in court; provide police escorts and transports; perform residential and commercial checks; investigate traffic accidents; interview victims, witnesses and suspects to obtain additional information regarding criminal complaints, accidents, violations, etc.; conduct searches; complete arrest records; prepare reports and record evidence. Producers who suffered qualifying livestock losses due to the recent blizzard could be eligible for the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP). If you have suffered livestock losses from the blizzard call the Moody County FSA Office to report your losses. (605)997-2949 ext. 2 LIP provides livestock producers with a vital safety net to help them overcome the damaging financial impact of natural disasters. LIP compensates livestock owners and contract growers for livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to an eligible adverse weather event, including losses due to wildfires, hurricanes, floods, blizzards, disease, extreme heat and extreme cold. A notice of loss must be filed with FSA within 30 days of when the loss of livestock is apparent. Livestock that die within 60 days of the date of the eligible loss condition may be considered eligible for loss benefits if the animal died because of the eligible loss condition. Producers must also file an application for payment no later than 90 days after the calendar year in which the eligible loss condition occurred. The LIP national payment rate for eligible livestock owners is based on 75 percent of the average fair market value of the livestock. Earlier this, Congress eliminated a payment cap for LIP of $125,000 per year. The amendment was part of the 2018 Bipartisan Budget Act. When livestock losses become apparent and producers work to dispose of deceased animals, it’s particularly important to document these losses prior to or during the disposal process. Producers are encouraged to bring supporting evidence, including documentation of the number and kind of livestock that died, supplemented if possible by photographs, or video records to document the loss, purchase records, veterinarian records, production records and other similar documents.
