Thank You

The family of Dale “Ole” Olson would like to thank everyone for their love and support following the loss of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We appreciate the stories shared, kind words of sympathy, prayers, memorials, cards, food, and flowers. Thank you to Pastor Alan for his visits and personalized tribute to Dad. It meant so much that Advent Capelle, Nancy Carlsrud and Cousin Barb provided the beautiful music at the prayer service and funeral. Our thanks also go to WELCA for serving the lunch. We especially appreciate the tender care Ole received from Edgewood Vista and Riverview Healthcare Community. Dad’s faith was an example to us all and we will treasure our memories of him. We will always remember the love and support which was given to us during this very difficult time. The Family of Janet Johnson

Looking for a Loving Home

I have a two-year-old, declawed, neutered cat, and he’s a sweetheart. When I saw him at the Humane Society, I knew that “Tabby” was the cat for me. Then, when I brought him home, my husband hit the roof. All he could talk about were his allergies. He went on and on about his potential runny nose, itchy eyes, scratchy throat, and his sneezing, sneezing, sneezing! Of course I’m in a tizzy, and I need to find a loving home. Actually, he doesn’t shed much, but I need to tell you something. He has a slight limp, but he can still shovel snow if it isn’t too deep. He has most of his hair, all of his teeth, is current with his shots; plus, he’s a good kisser. So, if you have that loving home, please call The Moody County “Human” Society. You won’t be sorry. P.S. A bonus: He is still driving his Hudson.

NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release April 11, 2018

Opening day is April 18 at Iott’s Greenhouse This long winter has gardeners ready to plant, and Iott’s Greenhouse & Gardens has great new annuals and perennials, along with colorful ways to celebrate spring. Iott’s is opening their greenhouse full of plants near Ward, SD, on Wednesday, April 18, with a dazzling selection of newly developed flowers and plants to stir the imaginations of home gardeners. Get an early start with “Plant Your Own Container Night” April 19 and 20. Starting at 6:30 both evenings, bring your own planter or purchase one of Iott’s beautiful containers. Iott’s will keep your planter in their warm greenhouse until Mothers Day for a successful start. Space is limited so call 605-997-2816 to reserve a place. Your cost will be based on the soil used in your planter and the plant material you choose. One clever new idea at Iott’s is the “School Colors Bench.” Graduations at local schools will soon be upon us. Iott’s has made graduation decorating easy, with plants in area school colors organized on a special bench. Some containers are already planted to help you decorate your home for your graduate’s special day with a variety of colorful flowers and plants. “Our plants are carefully nurtured and grown to thrive in our customers’ yards, gardens and containers,” said Nancy Iott, designer and co-owner. “We know that our gardening friends from around the area will be surprised and delighted by some of this year’s new introductions.” One of this year’s outstanding new plants is Supertunia Mulberry Charm, a stunner with a slightly mounding habit. Growers are very excited about its vigor and eye-popping color. Mulberry Charm likes a part-sun to full-sun location and will have a mature height of 6 to12 inches. Supertunias are heavy feeders, so in May you can fertilize every two weeks and in June when it heats up, it’s best to fertilize every week. Pick up some slow release fertilizer at Iott’s to top-dress your baskets to get them through the season. Iott said there are lots of new plants to see at the greenhouse this year, including several new Thunbergia varieties, and plenty of exciting perennials. Iott’s Greenhouse & Gardens is near Ward, SD, on 225th Street. Beginning Wednesday, April 18, the greenhouse is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm, Saturday, 8 am to 6 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm. Call Chris or Nancy Iott at 605-997-2816, email iottsgreenhouse@gmail.com or check out their colorful website at www.iottsgreenhouse.com for more information. You can also find Iott’s on Facebook.

ATTENTION COLMAN TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS The Colman Township Board of Supervisors want you to know it is against the law SDCL 31-32-7 to farm the right of way on township roads. Doing so creates a liability for the township, the landowner & the person doing the farming if it is someone other than the landowner. Therefore if anyone in Colman Township does farm the right of way, the board of supervisors have the right to destroy the crop and restore the road to it’s original condition and send you the bill. There have already been court cases on this issue and the court has ruled in favor of the township. Along that same line, South Dakota Codified Law says it is the landowner’s responsibility to remove weeds, trees, and brush, 31-31-2 or the township can have this done and assess it to your property taxes. SDCL 31-32-3.1 states that it is against the law to dump any material or cargo in the right of way and that includes rocks and other debris. Please help us to keep our township roads in good shape and make them safe for the motoring public. Doing so will mean we will have to spend less tax dollars dealing with violations of these sections of code.

(We will be marking the Right-of-Way Violations) Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Colman Township Board

NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release April 26, 2018

Farmers Market season opens at Callaway’s May 2 The first Farmers Market to offer Sioux Falls the freshest plants and foods this year is the Callaway’s Farmers Market, with a Wednesday opening on May 2. The fun continues on Saturday, May 5 in Callaway’s parking lot and runs from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the growing season. Sioux Falls area gardeners will find a dazzling selection of gorgeous hanging baskets, colorful planters and garden plants ready to put in the ground from Iott’s Greenhouse and Gardens, one of the big attractions at the Farmers Market at Callaway's. One of this year’s outstanding new plants is Supertunia Mulberry Charm, a stunner with a slightly vigorous mounding habit. Growers are very excited about its vigor and eye-popping color. Mulberry Charm likes a part-sun to full-sun location and will have a mature height of 6 to 12 inches. SolarTower ipomoea—the first self-climbing sweet potato vine—is available in two color choices this year. SolarTower Lime and SolarTower Black ipomoeas contrast beautifully and could be planted with thunbergia to add a splash of floral color. Both of these sweet potato vines are vigorous and can climb from four to seven feet. This year the Farmers Market at Callaway’s also spotlights a wide selection of specialty meats from Hanisch Farms, and home-grown, homecanned delicacies from JR’s Specialty Foods. “From beautiful baskets to brighten patios to delicious fresh foods, it’s all available at The Farmers Market at Callaway’s,” said Chris Iott. “We’re looking forward to seeing our many Sioux Falls friends again this year at our Farmer’s Market.” The Farmers Market at Callaway’s is two blocks east of the intersection of 69th Street and Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls. For more information, go to www.iottsgreenhouse.com. ---30--For more information, please call Chris Iott, 605-997-2816.

Booster “We’ve Got You Covered ~ For Over 61 Years!”• Wednesday, May 2, 2018 Livestock Indemnity Program Benefits Available to Moody County Producers

Producers who suffered qualifying livestock losses due to the recent blizzard could be eligible for the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP). If you have suffered livestock losses from the blizzard call the Moody County FSA Office to report your losses. (605)997-2949 ext. 2 LIP provides livestock producers with a vital safety net to help them overcome the damaging financial impact of natural disasters. LIP compensates livestock owners and contract growers for livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to an eligible adverse weather event, including losses due to wildfires, hurricanes, floods, blizzards, disease, extreme heat and extreme cold. A notice of loss must be filed with FSA within 30 days of when the loss of livestock is apparent. Livestock that die within 60 days of the date of the eligible loss condition may be considered eligible for loss benefits if the animal died because of the eligible loss condition. Producers must also file an application for payment no later than 90 days after the calendar year in which the eligible loss condition occurred. The LIP national payment rate for eligible livestock owners is based on 75 percent of the average fair market value of the livestock. Earlier this, Congress eliminated a payment cap for LIP of $125,000 per year. The amendment was part of the 2018 Bipartisan Budget Act. When livestock losses become apparent and producers work to dispose of deceased animals, it’s particularly important to document these losses prior to or during the disposal process. Producers are encouraged to bring supporting evidence, including documentation of the number and kind of livestock that died, supplemented if possible by photographs, or video records to document the loss, purchase records, veterinarian records, production records and other similar documents. Contact the Moody County FSA Office at (605) 997-2949 ext. 2 to submit a notice of loss and schedule an appointment. For more information on LIP, please visit FSA online at http://www.fsa.usda.gov USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender
