SUMMARY: This is a FT position (40 hours per week). The Mental Health Therapist (MHT) provides strengths based on therapeutic services to all eligible Native Americans in an out-patient setting. The successful candidate must have a strong law enforcement background and a track record of sustainable community oriented initiatives. Candidates must be experienced, well qualified and possess exceptional skills as a leader, not just an administrator. This position will oversee 3-4 FT officers currently and provide services on the Flandreau Santee Sioux reservation. The ideal candidate for the Chief position possesses a solid educational background and experience with small town policing, demonstrated ability in leading teams, and building and maintaining the relationships within the community and other law enforcement and governmental agencies. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge and /or experience in the following areas: preventive and proactive measures in law enforcement, domestic violence and abuse, child protection, substance awareness and abuse programs, and other community education outreach. Specific Requirements: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety, Criminal Justice or similar field, preferred. 2. A minimum of 5 years in law enforcement with 3 year of supervisory experience in a municipal setting required. 3. Valid Driver’s License. 4. Must have current Law Enforcement Certification. 5. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Adjudicated Law Enforcement Background Check. Salary for position is DOQ. Mayor Sutton shared that he has been in contact with stakeholders on the Crescent Street bridge project and offered an update on the planned inspection. The Mayor shared that he has received some feedback on nuisances from citizens that he plans to address with the City Administrator. City Administrator Pederson shared that he attended the pre-construction conference for the Crescent Street bridge demolition, where the contractor is planning to start demolition in August. Pederson shared those applications have been sent to the state for the previously discussed water and sewer projects. Pederson shared that he, along with Mayor Sutton and Assistant City Administrator Turnquist, will meet with an architect regarding the possibility of contracting with a project manager for the fire station construction project. Pederson shared that he is working to add some improvements to the landscaping surrounding at the storm shelter. Pederson shared that the effort to staff the Aquatic Center is going well and that arrangements for training are being made. Jeff also shared that the Flandreau Municipal Airport has been allocated $100,000 per year for the next five years, if the City is able to show need for it through a capital improvement plan. Pederson shared that a meeting with Helms and Associates brought about the proposal of adding more land to the airport and possible runway expansion. Assistant City Administrator Turnquist shared that over March 28-29 he attended a housing conference through Dakota Resources. Turnquist also shared that he was planning to attend several upcoming Flandreau Development Corporation meetings. Cohl informed the Council that construction is underway in the airport terminal on the new ceramic flooring. Motion by Ahlers and seconded by Pesall to approve the Administrative Reports.
