Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s Degree required with Education focus preferred, 2-3 years of experience with higher education programs, grant writing, scholarships or other similar related duties strongly preferred.

Local Support Needed for Blood Supply Colman, SD- Colman – Eagan School and Community Blood Bank are coming together to ensure an adequate blood supply for the community through the first months of 2019 by hosting a community blood drive on Friday, March 22 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Colman – Eagan School. All blood donations will stay local for local use with all blood types in immediate need.

“With many blood drive cancellations occurring within the last few weeks, the need for blood is at a critical status. This means we are at a point where we have less than a 72 hour supply of blood available for local patients,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Our hope is to bring supplies back up with the help of volunteers, staff and students at Colman – Eagan School. With people being treated for cancer, surgery cases and unexpected traumas occurring, we have seen an increase in usage as we come to a close of the winter season.”

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form), weigh 110 lbs or more and be in good general health. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood. Please bring an ID with you at the time of donation. of M O N I T O R I N G Here’s a short guide horses, pulmonary m a n a g e m e n t to help you become edema in pigs, and crops and feeds MYCOTOXINS Last fall’s unseasonal moisture created a lot of complications for those needing to harvest crops, and the above-average precipitation has resulted in further issues with feed quality. The rapid surge of mycotoxins in commodities this winter is a growing concern for those who are storing grain or feeding livestock.

The fastest way to lose commodity value is by losing quality.

That’s why SGS provides preventative measures to protect your commodity by accurately detecting mycotoxins and other common contaminants. Are you minimizing the threat against your feed quality as mycotoxins are on the rise?

Recognizing the Risk Since the level of contamination from mycotoxins can’t necessarily be gauged visually, commodities need to be sampled and tested for contamination to ensure that mycotoxins aren’t present. Wonder what you’re looking for when you send your samples in for testing?

more familiar with the mycotoxins your commodities may be at risk for: Aflatoxins – this class of mycotoxins is considered one of the most toxic and includes aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, and G2. Aflatoxins are commonly induced by moisture or heat stress and proliferate in corn, peanuts, and cotton. Livestock are very sensitive to aflatoxins, and high concentrations in feeds can lead to liver damage and death.

Deoxynivalenol (DON)/Vomitoxins – this mycotoxin may become prevalent in crops due to wet humid weather at flowering and also increases when moisture content is high during grain storage.

DON commonly results in feed refusal in hogs and in extreme cases may cause vomiting.

Fumonisins – this category includes B1, B2, and B3 fumonisins, which are commonly found in contaminated corn.

These mycotoxins are notorious for deteriorating coordination in

reduced feed intake and gain in cattle.

Ochratoxins – often produced within grains during commodity storage, ochratoxins can cause kidney failure in swine, hinder fetal development in utero, and harm the immune system.

T-2 toxins – these mycotoxins commonly infect grains such as barley, wheat, millet, and mixed feeds. T-2 toxins drastically harm animal feed intake, gastrointestinal health, and reproductive success.

Zearalenone – this estrogenic metabolite results in corn ear and stalk rots and can also contaminate weathered soybeans, hay, silage, and grains such as wheat, barley, oats, and sorghum.

Both high moisture and late harvest can increase zearalenone concentrations in crops. Due to its high estrogen content, zearalenone has been noted for contributing to reproductive complications in livestock.

Curbing the Crisis While proper storage and moisture

help minimize mycotoxins, weather and environmental conditions can wreak havoc on feed and crop quality in even the best management practices. PRESS RELEASE The City of Flandreau Contracts with CodeRED to Provide Emergency Notification Services FLANDREAU, SD, March 15, 2019 – Following a thorough evaluation and review of alerting systems, the City of Flandreau has implemented CodeRED, a high-speed emergency mass notification service provided by Ormond Beach, FL-based OnSolve, LLC. The CodeRED system will serve as the backbone of the City of Flandreau’s emergency planning and communications outreach to both citizens and staff. The system sends telephone calls, text messages, emails and posts to social media channels to inform residents to better protect life and property. CodeRED was selected for its reliability and accuracy, as well as the system’s wide spread adoption rates across the U.S. “CodeRED’s robust notification system will provide Flandreau officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our citizens during emergencies. We are eager to use this innovative technology to enhance our emergency notification procedures,” said City Administrator Jeff Pederson. We also anticipate using the system to notify residents of utility interruptions, street closures, City facility closures, mosquito spraying, and other occurrences.

OnSolve has provided the City of Flandreau an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers; however all residents living within Flandreau city limits are encouraged to visit www.cityofflandreau.com and click on the CodeRED logo to enroll their contact information including cell phone numbers, text and email addresses. No one should automatically assume they are in the emergency contact database.

Public safety officials across the United States have credited CodeRED notifications for successfully locating missing children, apprehending wanted criminals and issuing timely evacuations.
