The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is seeking Motivational/Educational Speakers or Cultural/ Language Presenters for its Demonstration Education Project. Speakers will address K-12 school aged children in a school assembly format.
Full Time – Non-Exempt
Under the general supervision of the Education Director, the school liaison will develop and coordinate all aspects of the Education Demonstration grant and the 93-638 Johnson O’Malley program for the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe. The School Liaison will develop and coordinate cultural, educational, and recreational activities for Native students and professional development opportunities for students, parent committees, school board and administration. The school liaison will serve as a mentor advising students in college/career preparation, academic support and holistic wellness. Minimum Qualifications: • Must be a high school graduate. Must have completed a minimum of two (2) years of college in Education, Social Work, Family Studies, Child Development or closely related field highly preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered. • Must have administrative experience with coordinating, planning, organizing and implementing meetings and programs for a diverse audience. • Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to maintain computer records and data. • Must have experience in preparing written reports. • Must be able to work occasional evening and weekends. Must submit to a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Flandreau High School senior, Ian Parra, will recognize Moody County veterans during the week of February 9-15. Parra chose Valentines for Veterans for his senior project because of the respect he has for the men and women who have served their country. The community rallied and thanks to the support of businesses, organizations, groups, families and individuals, his goal of making 300 gift bags for veterans became a reality. Gift bags include a pair of socks, puzzle book, deck of cards, microwave popcorn, pack of tissue, and personal hygiene products. Parra is a senior at Flandreau High School and a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard.
