I want to thank all of you who made my retirement party such a wonderful day. I thoroughly enjoyed the open house hosted by my family in honor of my 52 years of working at Kuhle-Sutton Agency. Seeing and visiting with old acquaintances, clients, friends and family was overwhelming. To reflect upon where our agency and its history started from my father Anton (Tony) Kuhle, then my husband Duane (Bud) Sutton and I joining the business to today with my son Chuck Sutton and his wife Val, son Dan Sutton, and grandson Jared Sutton continuing the business was a meaningful reminder of the importance of family working together to serve our community and clients. I am a people person and will remember fondly my daily contacts with clients and friends that I had the joy to work with over the years. Every day was different working in the office assisting clients and I can’t imagine having worked anywhere else that would have made me happier or been more rewarding. Workers may get a larger tax refund this year because of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

But to get it, you must file a tax return and claim it.

Today, January 31, 2020, marks the 14th anniversary of Awareness Day, a nationwide effort to increase awareness about EITC and free tax preparation sites. This year, IRS is promoting EITC and providing information on other refundable tax credits that you may be eligible for. This includes the Child Tax Credit (CTC), the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), the Credit for Other Dependents (ODC) and the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC).

In 2019, 25 million workers received more than $63 billion in EITC refunds. If you worked last year and had income of less than $55,952 check out your eligibility for EITC. EITC can mean up to a $6,557 refund when you file a return if you have qualifying children. Workers without a qualifying child could be eligible for a smaller credit up to $529. According to the Internal Revenue Service, the average amount credited for 2019 was $2,476.

Why is it important to have an EITC Awareness Day each year? One-third of the EITC population changes each year. The IRS estimates that four out of five workers claim the EITC they earned. This leaves billions of dollars on the table each year. We want to get the word out to those who are eligible to file a tax return even if they don’t owe any tax to claim the EITC. It’s money workers can use for groceries, rent, utilities and other bills.

EITC is complex. It varies by income, family size and your filing status. To be eligible, you must have earned income or certain disability income. This means you must have income from working for someone or working for yourself.

Volunteers – trained by the Internal Revenue Service – ask you the needed questions to find out if you qualify for the EITC and other refundable tax credits. Volunteers at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites, also prepare and e-file (electronically file) your tax return at no cost to you.

The Board Board of Trustees of the City of Egan, South Dakota met in regular session on January 15, 2020 6:00pm at the Egan City Hall, 110 W 3rd St, Egan, SD. REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe of Flandreau South Dakota Demonstration Education Project February 2019 The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is seeking Motivational/Educational Speakers or Cultural/ Language Presenters for its Demonstration Education Project. Speakers will address K-12 school aged children in a school assembly format.

Description of Work: Consultants will present to students who attend the Flandreau Public School system in Flandreau, South Dakota.

• The Consultant will provide a cultural/historical/ motivational/educational presentation on a

contracted basis usually for one day.

• The Consultant should present a message that promotes positive social skills, self-discipline, and a positive self-image.

• The Consultant should have demonstrated experience with motivating children of all ages.

• The Consultants message should be culturally and/historically relevant to the Flandreau Santee Sioux Nation Qualifications • Experience- Prior demonstrated experience in public speaking • Priority will be given to local and regional applicants • Personal characteristics- Respectful in the Dakota Way; Personable and can motivate children

to perform.

Consultants will be asked to sign a contract and will be compensated based on experience.
