This position will oversee 3-4 FT officers currently and provide services on the Flandreau Santee Sioux reservation. The ideal candidate for the Chief position possesses a solid educational background and experience with small town policing, demonstrated ability in leading teams, and building and maintaining the relationships within the community and other law enforcement and governmental agencies. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge and /or experience in the following areas: preventive and proactive measures in law enforcement, domestic violence and abuse, child protection, substance awareness and abuse programs, and other community education outreach. Specific Requirements: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety, Criminal Justice or similar field, preferred. 2. A minimum of 5 years in law enforcement with 3 year of supervisory experience in a municipal setting required. 3. Valid Driver’s License. 4. Must have current Law Enforcement Certification. 5. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma, paralegal training, or experience preferred. A minimum of two (2) years prior secretarial experience. Knowledge of legal terminology. Knowledge of typewriter keyboards. Must be able to type 50-70 wpm. Must know English grammar, spelling, and punctuation in order to correct obvious errors in material being typed.
