The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is in search of a Police Chief with demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to convey integrity, respect, trust and instill confidence in his employees. The successful candidate must have a strong law enforcement background and a track record of sustainable community oriented initiatives. Candidates must be experienced, well qualified and possess exceptional skills as a leader, not just an administrator. This position will oversee 3-4 FT officers currently and provide services on the Flandreau Santee Sioux reservation. The ideal candidate for the Chief position possesses a solid educational background and experience with small town policing, demonstrated ability in leading teams, and building and maintaining the relationships within the community and other law enforcement and governmental agencies. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge and /or experience in the following areas: preventive and proactive measures in law enforcement, domestic violence and abuse, child protection, substance awareness and abuse programs, and other community education outreach. Specific Requirements: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety, Criminal Justice or similar field, preferred. 2. A minimum of 5 years in law enforcement with 3 year of supervisory experience in a municipal setting required. 3. Valid Driver’s License. 4. Must have current Law Enforcement Certification. 5. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Adjudicated Law Enforcement Background Check. Salary for position is DOQ. Under the general supervision of the Education Director, the school liaison will develop and coordinate all aspects of the Education Demonstration grant and the 93-638 Johnson O’Malley program for the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe. The School Liaison will develop and coordinate individual education plans, cultural and recreational activities for Native students and professional development opportunities for students, parent committees, school board and administration. The school liaison will serve as a mentor advising students in college/career preparation, academic support and holistic wellness. POSITION SUMMARY: The Clerk of Courts position is multi-focused requiring a wide range of responsibilities key to the court system. The employee will fulfill Court Administrator and Magistrate job duties. The employee serves as Clerk of civil, criminal, juvenile, traffic, small claims, and appellate courts. Receptionist, secretarial, legal assistant, and public relation duties are also requirements of this position. In brief, this employee greets all visitors and handles all incoming correspondence and telephone calls. Is responsible for budgets, record keeping, report writing, drafting pleadings, docketing cases, processing and filing all civil, criminal, juvenile, traffic, small claims, and appeal actions filed with Tribal Court. The Clerk of Courts is responsible for the scheduling of hearings, preparing and maintaining court calendars and notification of all parties in all civil, criminal, juvenile, traffic, small claims, and appeal actions. This position performs Court Magistrate duties, prepares and distributes child support payments to agencies or individuals on a monthly basis. Responsible for issuing various tribal licenses, collecting fees and fines ordered by the Court. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma, paralegal training, or experience preferred. A minimum of two (2) years prior secretarial experience. Knowledge of legal terminology. Knowledge of typewriter keyboards. Must be able to type 50-70 wpm. Must know English grammar, spelling, and punctuation in order to correct obvious errors in material being typed. Computer skills required, specifically proficient in Microsoft Windows products. Knowledge of fax and copy machine operation and troubleshooting. Prior administrative experience preferred. Must be physically and mentally able to carry out the demanding duties of the office. Must be a Notary Public licensed in the State of South Dakota or able to obtain a license. Job Description: The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is accepting applications for one Full time Tribal Victim Advocate. This position will be responsible for assisting and providing support services for Native American families due to domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. Duties included are: Crisis Intervention services, short term relocation assistance, assisting clients with goalsetting, budgeting, job hunting skills, etc. Making appropriate referrals for clients, locate and secure permanent housing, maintaining all required paperwork, client files, data, and following up with clients. Applicant must have excellent documenting skills for reporting in a timely manner. Education & Qualifications: Bachelor Degree with background in the Human Services Field. One (1) year experience in the field highly preferred. Experience working with Native Americans in human services field, preferably

working with women and children.

Mayor Sutton updated Council on a recent conversation with Avera Hospital Administrator Scott Hargens regarding COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Mayor Sutton and City Administrator Jeff Pederson met via Zoom with officials from FDC and FSST for their monthly discussion on items of interest going on within the entities. FSST officials shared information regarding on-line gaming, construction of their nursing home, credit card business, and potential changes due to the legalization of marijuana. An invitation has been extended to Council members to tour their marijuana grow facility. FSST officials also indicated their interest in partnering with the City for the new fire station construction and upcoming work at the dam. Meetings will be held with architectural firms this week in reference to design of the new fire station. City Administrator Pederson has reached out to Avera Hospital Administrator Scott Hargens regarding the timetable for COVID-19 vaccinations for City staff as they are classified as essential services workers. Zoom meetings to interview four architectural firms have been scheduled for design and associated services related to the new Fire Station; Pederson is pleased with the firms selected to interview and indicated a recommendation will be brought before Council in two weeks. The City Administrator shared that numerous citations for overtime parking (Title 13 Traffic Code, Section 13.6.2) have been issued recently along with a warning notice to remove the vehicle within twenty-four hours to prevent removal by the City.
