During 2017 the City of Flandreau accomplished a number of projects. These projects are all for the betterment of the community. The City Administrator reported that an advertisement announcing the vacancy in the City Street Department should appear in next week’s newspapers. He also reported that the next Council meeting will begin with a Public Hearing to transfer a liquor license at Mad Mary’s. The public notice will appear in this week’s newspapers. Finally, in response to Alderman Sutton’s question at the last Council meeting, the City Administrator reported that he spoke to Tom Grimmond at Dougherty & Company regarding refinancing bonds. Mr. Grimmond indicated that the new tax bill does away with advanced refunding meaning we cannot refinance bonds sooner than ninety days prior to the call date. For example, the 2013 Electric Revenue Bonds which are in effect until May 1, 2035 have a call date of May 1, 2020. Those bonds would not be able to be refinanced any sooner than ninety days before May 1, 2020. Motion by Sutton and seconded by Smith to approve the Administrative Reports. City Attorney Lewis is going to look further into the insurance issue before the second reading of the Ordinance at the next Council meeting. Upon the Mayor’s recommendation to appoint Pastor David Lillibridge to the Planning & Zoning Commission, a motion was made by Sample and seconded by Smith to approve the appointment. Moody County Historical Society Annual Meeting The Moody County Historical Society will hold its 61st Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 14th, at 1:30 PM, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 505 South Wind Street, Flandreau, SD. Please come to this meeting. We will be done by the time the Vikings play!! We need a quorum of at least 20 members to conduct business. The guest speaker for the meeting will be Dr. Ben Jones, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Dakota State University in Madison. Dr. Jones will be discussing his book, Eisenhower’s Guerillas: The Jedburghs, the Maquis and the Liberation of France, which was published by Oxford Press in 2016. The business meeting will follow the presentation, and all interested parties are invited to attend.
