The Mayor discussed the National Night Out event hosted by the Flandreau Police Department, Moody County Sheriff’s Office and other area first responders, which is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2nd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Aquatic Center.

The Finance Officer discussed an e-mail included in the council packets that was sent to Don Whitman from Lori Kneebone regarding 2016 Summer Recreational activities and suggestions to improve the 2017 season.

Motion by Sutton and seconded by Smith to approve the Administrative Reports. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton and Tufty. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried.

New Business: Motion by Bjerke and seconded by Sample to not authorize the Mayor to sign the Memorandum of Agreement between the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, the City and the Bureau of Indian Affairs regarding the Broad Avenue Realignment Project and to reallocate the funds to address the drainage issues on Broad Avenue. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton and Tufty. Nays: None.

Dakota State University is seeking applications for two full-time HR Generalist II in the Human Resources Office. We are looking for one HR Generalist II to assist with recruitment, write and edit position descriptions, post job advertisements, work as a Title IX Investigator, update the HR and Title IX websites, assist with preparing various reports for various stakeholders, assist with lining up development/training sessions for DSU employees, payroll backup and assist with employee evaluations.

The second HR Generalist II position will process entry of payroll information, verify leave and timesheets and play a major role in auditing of payroll information. Other areas of responsibility include employee relations, conflict resolution, EEO efforts, benefit administration, training efforts, preparing various reports for various stakeholders and help with employee recruitment activities. Both positions will also assist new and current employees with questions and enrollment regarding benefits, health insurance, flexible benefits, retirement, and payroll questions.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to communicate with current and prospective students and employees on a daily basis requiring excellent interpersonal skills and displaying an excellent customer service attitude. Other requirements include: • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, rules and regulations relating to payroll and or benefits • Knowledge of recruiting and staffing processes • Knowledge of multiple computer applications including various payroll systems, MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook is required • Knowledge of Title IX requirements • Ability to work quickly and accurately with many interruptions • Ability to solve complex problems • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships • Ability to interpret, explain and apply rules and procedures • Experience with employee orientation, development, and training • Experience with employee relations, coaching and conflict resolution To be successful, one must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, have excellent organizational skills and be able to manage a high level of details. You must have the ability to communicate with a diverse group of constituents on a professional level and have demonstrated work history dealing with confidential information due to the nature of business conducted in the Human Resources Office. Candidate must also have ability to type accurately, gather, compare, and summarize data from a variety of sources, proof or edit department material and prioritize work efforts. Prior knowledge of Colleague or Banner information systems is a plus.
