VETERANS DAY POTLUCK & PROGRAM Friday, November 11

Potluck begins at 6 pm, Program to follow

WILLIAM JANKLOW COMMUNITY CENTER IN FLANDEAU SD Keynote Speaker: Mr. Reg Gassman "Our speaker this year will have unique insights on the sacrifices made by our Veterans. His wife served in Operation Desert Storm over 25 years ago, and his son is now serving in some of those same operating areas. Mr. Gassman has seen those closest to him leave for war - and he'll have a great perspective to share on their sacrifices and on the tremendous service provided by those that keep the home fires burning." Offering the blessing: Pastor Dave Knudson As always, talent from our high school will round out our program: The Voice of Democracy essay winners will share their winning entries, and Taps will be performed by members of the band. MC - Bridget Flannery - Commander of VFW Post 3351. "With a Presidential election happening this year - I'm especially mindful of what a blessing - what a tremendous gift -- it is to live in a country where we take the peaceful transition of power nearly for granted. Almost any Veteran will tell you that much of the world would give their eye-teeth for the opportunity to vote - and to vote freely, and without fear. It can be too easy to focus on what's wrong with politics in America - but Veterans' Day provides us with an easy reminder that there's a lot right with our system, too. . .We should never forget that those "right things" have been bought and paid for by the men and women in our Armed Forces."
