Team of Angels is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit or ganization based out of Moody County, South Dakota. We were founded in 2003 by Dave, Kathi and Alicia Bennett and Sherrill Broekhuizen after Blaine, Dave and Kathi’s youngest son, lost his long-fought battle with cancer. As of December 31, 2021, Team of Angels had helped 156 in dividuals with over $94,000 in mileage reimbursements. We don’t want to see that number grow because we wish everyone good health and happiness, but unfortunately, we know these medical situations will continue to happen and we want to be there to help!

We host multiple fundraising events each year to provide mileage reimbursement to Moody County residents that are faced with out-of-town travel expenses due to medical emergencies. We are continuously taking applications for mileage reimbursement, which is set at $.35 per mile for residents who meet the program requirements. Qualified applicants can receive up to $750 per patient per calendar year.

We are excited to introduce a new fundraiser – grain do nation! How does this work? We have set up accounts at Cargill in Pipestone, LACP in Wentworth, SD Soybean Pro cessors in Volga, New Horizon Grain in Pipestone, CHS Eastern Farmers in Jasper, and Dell Rapids Co-Op Grain. To contribute to those with large medical challenges in Moody County, all you need to do is let our participating partners know how many bushels you would like to donate and they will take care of the rest.

The City Council of the City of Flandreau, South Dakota, met in regular session on Monday, October 3rd, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 1005 W. Elm Avenue, Flandreau, SD.

Mayor Sutton informed Council about Sioux Valley Energy holding EV Ride and Drive and hope that Flandreau will have opportunity in the future to look into the advancement of electric cars and charging stations. Mayor Sutton informed Council that Helms and Associates provided the City with information on their environmental assessment map; which will be done in March of 2023. City crews have been working to abate nuisances around town and Mayor Sutton extended a Thank You to the City Employees along with City Administrator Turnquist for enforcing City Code. City Administrator Turnquist updated Council on the FDC Bike Path. Turnquist expressed appreciation to former Emergency Management Terry Albers for his time on going over FEMA Flood Plain Maps with him. Turnquist also announced the City Office will be closed Monday October 10th 2022, and informed Council that Lori and him will be gone rest of the week to Watertown for the South Dakota Municipal League Annual Conference. Mayor Sutton added that the scheduled meeting with Red-Cross has been postponed and will keep Council updated on when that will be rescheduled.

Motion by Tufty and seconded by Yeaton to approve the Administrative Reports. The following members voted aye: Ahlers, Bjerke, Ekern, Fargen, Tufty and Yeaton. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried.

Mayor Sutton proclaimed October 2-8, 2022 as National 4-H Week. Motion by Fargen and seconded by Ahlers to approve Christy Hanson as a part-time custodian for the City of Flandreau at an hourly wage of $15/hour. Motion by Bjerke and seconded by Ahlers to provide workman’s compensation insur ance coverage for all volunteer firefighters. The following members voted aye: Ahlers, Bjerke, Ekern, Fargen, Tufty and Yeaton. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried. Motion by Ekern and seconded by Ahlers to approve Resolution 2022-15, a resolution approving legal services agreement with Todd Meierhenry, of Meierhenry Sargent LLP, as bond counsel for the fire station project. The following members voted aye: Ahlers, Bjerke, Ekern, Fargen, Tufty and Yeaton. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried. Motion by Tufty and seconded by Fargen to approve Resolution 2022-16, Approval of Issuance of Sales Tax Revenue Bonds.
