Demoli tion has begun on the bridge and the Bureau of Indian Affairs is overseeing the process. Brenda Redwing from the BIA informed the Mayor that an application has been filed for a new vehicular bridge to be installed, which would be paid for by the BIA. The City of Flandreau is contributing to the cost of the bridge demolition through grant funds. The Mayor encourages residents to stay away from the Crescent Street Bridge area, as it is no longer safe for the public during the demoli tion process. City Administrator Cohl Turnquist reminded the Council of the dog swim at the Flandreau Aquat ic Center this Friday, August 19th from 4:00-6:00 pm. Dogs must be on a leash and vaccination records will be required for entrance. Turnquist encourages residents to support Flandreau Flier Athletic Events this fall, as the first home football game is Friday, August 19th at 7:00 at Flier Booster Club Stadium. Administrator Turnquist and Finance Officer Lori Kneebone have been working with FEMA to obtain reimbursement funds from damage endured on the May 12th wind storm. On August 24th at 6:30, there will be a 2023 Budget workshop for Council members and Turnquist encouraged all council members to attend the next meeting on September 6th, as there will be a public hearing to vacate an alley located within the future fire station property site. Old Business: None New Business: Information was shared with Council from the Golf Course Task Force about the possibility of the City of Flandreau taking over the operations of the Flandreau Golf Course. Task Member John Schaeffer informed the council that the Golf Course Board is willing to gift the land to the City, which includes the Course, the Club House, and surrounding farm land. Jason Ramsdell, Golf Board President, told the board that there is a current lien on the land with ap proximately $188,000 remaining, and loan details could be worked out with the lending facility in Elkton. Ramsdell also informed Council that the biggest challenge of operating the golf course is finding laborers. Ramsdell stated that the golf carts are leased yearly and that the equipment at the golf course is usable, but stated the irrigation system needs work. Current membership is around 100 members. Derek Burshiem, former greens keeper at the course, reported to Council that he feels some of the flooding concerns could be mitigated by doing some preventative work to the course, such as building dikes, etc. Mayor Sutton informed the Council that he is in favor of the City taking over the Course as there are economic benefits from having an operational Golf Course in Flandreau. Administrator Turnquist shared a tentative proposed golf course budget with Council members. Motion by Bjerke and seconded by Tufty to consider a budget proposal for the Golf Course in the 2023 budget. Further discussion will take place on this topic at the Budget Workshop on Au gust 24th, when more specific details can be discussed. Job Summary: We are looking for a Surveillance Officer to undertake the surveillance of our premises and protection of our staff and visitors. This position will be responsible for detecting any suspicious behavior and preventing vandalism, thefts or other criminal behavior, maintaining strict surveillance and access controls, and ensures regulatory compliance. The surveillance officer must be well trained in surveillance and dealing with perpetrators. The ideal candidate will inspire respect and authority as well as possess a high level of observation.
