SUMMARY: This position will perform a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties, and often work chair-side as dentists examine and treat patients. This position will be responsible for making patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records. Assists chair-side by handing instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients’ mouth dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Summary: This fulltime position is located at The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Health Clinic in Flandreau, SD. The purpose of this position is to work in a hybrid (paper/electronic) medical record environment, alternating between abstracting and coding pertinent outpatient medical data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) into the Resource Patient Management billing system and analyzing medical data entered by the clinician in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Duties include: Performs comprehensive review of the record to assure the presence of all component parts, such as: correct name, health record number, signatures and dates where required, and all reports which appear to be indicated by the treatment rendered; Evaluates the record for documentation, consistency, accuracy and correlation of recorded data, such as medical necessity and modifier usage; Ensures the final diagnosis as stated by the physician is valid, complete and accurately reflects the care and treatment rendered; Analyzes provider documentation to assure the appropriate Evaluation and Management (E&M) levels are assigned using the correct CPT codes and applicable modifiers; Assures diagnostic and procedural terminology used is consistent with currently acceptable medical nomenclature. Must adhere to HIPAA requirements. Education & Experience Qualifications: Applicant must have HS Diploma/GED and AAPC Coder Certification and two (2) years’ experience to apply. COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS JULY 17th, 2017 The City Council of the City of Flandreau, South Dakota, met in regular session on Monday, July 17th, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 1005 W. Elm Avenue, Flandreau, SD. Present: Mayor Mark Bonrud. Aldermen: Brad Bjerke, Bob Pesall, Bart Sample, Ron Smith, Dan Sutton, and Karen Tufty. Absent: None. Also present was Donald Whitman and Mike Fargen, City of Flandreau; Paul Lewis, City Attorney; Brad Wilson, South Dakota Municipal League (SDML) Workers Comp Fund; Mike Skroch and Anna Duncan, Cemetery Ordinance discussion; Bennett Tufty, guest; and Hannah Koeller, Moody County Enterprise. The proposed agenda was reviewed. Motion by Sample and seconded by Sutton to adopt the proposed agenda. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton, and Tufty. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried. Brad Wilson of the South Dakota Municipal League (SDML) Workers Comp Fund was introduced to Council. Brad recognized Flandreau as one of the original cities to join the SDML Workers Comp Fund by presenting the Mayor with a plaque honoring Flandreau for 30 years with the Fund. The Mayor informed Council of the recent placement of the Governor Janklow plaque at the Community Center/Armory. He indicated the airport fly-in held recently at the Flandreau Municipal Airport was extremely successful with roughly 50 planes that flew in for the event and the Team of Angels served nearly 400 meals. The City Administrator informed Council that we have been notified by Rural Development that the City has been approved for the additional $480,000 for the wastewater portion of the line replacement project. The contractor, however, has indicated that he probably will not get to that section of water and wastewater line replacements this year. This will become a 2018 project. At the last progress meeting held on July 12th, the contractor indicated that the current project is running nearly on schedule. At the next Council meeting there will be a CDBG progress public hearing and Dave Burwitz of Clark Engineering would like to attend to give Council an update on the water and wastewater project. Work is almost complete on Crescent Street in front of Maynard’s as well as the storm drain on the corner of 2nd Avenue and Crescent Street. Dave Ahlers visited with Mike Fargen about replacing the concrete around the old dentist office building on the corner of 2nd Avenue and Crescent Street and asked if the City would replace the curb and gutter which we agreed to do. The Flandreau Development Corporation has gifted land in the industrial park to two new businesses. A contractor for AT&T is adding and replacing antennae at the west water tower to enhance their cellular service. The first curbside recycling took place on July 12th. We are still taking names and addresses of those residents who would like to participate. The next curbside pickup is scheduled for July 26th; future curbside pickup will be the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. August 1st is National Night Out and the Flandreau Police Department is preparing to hold the event at the shelter by the Aquatic Center where hot dogs will be grilled.
