CURBSIDE RECYCLING IS COMING !
Beginning in July 2017, Eng Services will begin picking up items for recycling at the curb. This service will begin on July 12 and will occur the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. Since this is a voluntary service, Eng Services is requesting residents who want curbside recycling contact the City Office to add your name and address to the list for pick-up. Until regular recycling containers are obtained, please use a container marked “recycling”. All of the items that are currently taken as recyclable at the dumpster located at the City Office will continue with the curbside program. That includes: tin cans, aluminum cans, plastic containers marked 1 PETE or 2 HDPE only, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, cereal box type cardboard and junk mail. Newspaper, magazines, cardboards and junk mail must be dry and can be placed inside brown paper grocery bags for recycling. Tin cans, aluminum cans and plastic containers must be rinsed out and clean. No plastic bags, no glass of any sort and no pizza boxes. Questions? Alderman Bjerke, Airport Board Liaison, indicated the board met this afternoon and finalized arrangements for the fly-in. A portion of the Governors Executive Proclamation was read. Also discussed was the surface of the existing runway that is nearing the time it needs to be replaced; an update to FAA with a new layout will not be known for few more years. Bjerke provided a copy of the Airport Layout Plan for Council to review. He also indicated the grass runway is usable. The Mayor briefly discussed housing in Flandreau. He also informed Council that he and the City Administrator recently met with Game, Fish and Parks in Chamberlin regarding the dam. The City Administrator discussed in detail the meeting with GF&P held two weeks ago in Chamberlin pertaining to the dam. A progress meeting was held last week with the contractor on the 1st Avenue water and wastewater project. Rural Development will do the final inspection of the first phase of the water and wastewater project this Friday. Randy Wilts provided photos to Council showing the interior of the Izaak Walton building remodeling progress. Department Heads will have a supervisor orientation tomorrow morning on the new Employee Assistance Program; orientation for the rest of the staff will occur at a later date. Prayers and thoughts are with Morgan Ten Eyck, a WSI Lifeguard at the Aquatic Center, who was in a car accident this past weekend and is in very serious condition in the hospital.
