the Moody County Board of Commissioners to Declare a Fire Danger emergency & to Prohibit Open Burning within Moody County.
The Moody County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the County Commissioners' Room in the Courthouse at 9:00 AM, with the following members present: Chairman Jerry Doyle, Rick Veldkamp, Tom Ehrichs, Dan Miles, Carla Bruning and Kristina Krull, Auditor as Clerk of the Board. Also present Marty Skroch, Commission Assistant, Paul Lewis, States Attorney, and Hannah Koeller, Moody County Enterprise.
Marc Blum, Highway Superintendent met with the Board. Discussion was held on Bridge 51-130-044 and Bridge 51-120-044. Motion by Miles, seconded by Veldkamp to approve the repair of Bridge 51-130-044. All voted “aye”. The first reading of Ordinance #2017-02, titled An Ordinance Establishing a 35 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit Upon Portion of 478th Avenue. Rick Wiese and Rick Lalonde left the meeting. Blum gave the Board the Highway 2016 Annual Report.

Marty Skroch, Commission Assistant met with the Board to discuss staffing. Motion by Veldkamp, seconded by Miles to advertise for Heavy Equipment Operator retroactive March 29, 2017. All voted “aye”. Motion by Veldkamp, seconded by Bruning to hire Brenna Schultz, Dispatcher at Grade 11/Step A at $14.09/hr effective April 17, 2017. All voted “aye”. Motion by Ehrichs, seconded by Miles to hire Gabriel Frias, Dispatcher at Grade 11/Step A at $14.09/hr effective April 17, 2017. All voted “aye”. Motion by Miles, seconded by Bruning to hire Laurie Smith, Part-Time Deputy Sheriff at Grade 19/Step G at $18.92 effective April 4, 2017. All voted “aye”. Motion by Bruning, seconded by Miles to move the first meeting in July to July 6th, 2017. All voted “aye”. Motion by Ehrichs, seconded by Veldkamp approve the day (8 hours) on April 14, closing County offices with the exception of emergency services, as it is the County’s policy that any days designated a holiday by the Governor of South Dakota shall be proclaimed a holiday by the County. All voted “aye”. Bid opening was held for the Sheriff Sidewalk as advertised at 11:30 am. Also present Troy Wellman, Sheriff, Brad Civarella Design, and Gail Meyer-Deelstra, ROD.
