BUILDING MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST - PLUMBER Dakota State University is seeking applications for a full-time Building Maintenance Specialist specializing in plumbing. This position is responsible for maintaining existing plumbing, heating and cooling systems on the facilities and installing new systems according to state code. The incumbent will aid the facilities administration in creating estimates for new installations of HVAC equipment and plumbing systems, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade plumbing systems. This position is also responsible for replacing and/or maintaining the plumbing fixtures (sinks, toilets, showers, urinals) on campus and using an Excel database to assist the facilities administration in tracking the service and inspection dates for the university air handlers, air compressors, HVAC pumps, chillers, A/C units, water softeners, Food Service equipment and hydronic heating systems etc.

This position will also be part of the operation team for the steam heating boilers. Once hired the employee will respond to work orders for failed equipment in a timely manner, track project time, effort, and expense. This position will also be responsible for repairing and servicing a variety of equipment which includes performing preventative maintenance on equipment on a specified schedule.

The successful applicant must possess a Plumber’s License, preferable in the State of South Dakota and have 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience. You should also be able to follow written and oral instructions, operate required equipment, and have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook. This position will work with students, staff and the public courteously, work independently, lift up to 50 pounds regularly and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Ability to work independently; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; deal tactfully and patiently with clients; establish and maintain records, reports and statistical data; use initiative and judgment; maintain effective working relationships with other related agencies; professionals and citizen groups; perform and record total physical examination; obtain vaginal, cervical, urethral and rectal cultures, papanicolaou smears, and other laboratory specimens appropriate.

Skill in diagnostic procedures for diseases and the drug therapy needed for treatment of these medical conditions. Must be proficient in the use of medical and laboratory equipment.

COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS JANUARY 3, 2017

The City Council of the City of Flandreau, South Dakota, met in regular session on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 1005 W. Elm Avenue, Flandreau, SD. Present: Mayor Mark Bonrud. Aldermen: Brad Bjerke, Bob Pesall, Bart Sample, Ron Smith, Dan Sutton, and Karen Tufty. Absent: None. A Joint Public Hearing with the Planning and Zoning Commission was held. There was no public input. Don Ulwelling stated that the Planning and Zoning Commission met and all the members were in agreement to recommend that Council adopt Ordinance 578 to allow businesses in the HC Zoning District to sell certain live farm animals.

Alderman Sutton requested the hospital report in the minutes from December 19th, be corrected to read Avera Flandreau Hospital and Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Clinic Administrators/Staff have met to share ideas, services each offer to patients, and to discuss possible ways that they may be able to work together in serving our community healthcare needs. Motion by Sample and seconded by Smith to approve the corrected minutes of December 19th, 2016. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton, and Tufty. Nays: None. The City Administrator updated Council on the Water/Wastewater Project. Other information that was distributed to Council and briefly discussed was a review of 2016 projects, a list of building permits issued in 2016, and information from Missouri River Energy Services regarding the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project currently underway in Iowa.

Motion by Bjerke and seconded by Pesall to approve the Administrative Reports. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton, and Tufty. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried.

Old Business: Second reading of Ordinance 578, An Ordinance That Amends Existing Title 12 Chapter 2.09 Section 2.09.01 Permitted Uses, was conducted. Motion by Smith and seconded by Tufty to adopt Ordinance 578. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton, and Tufty. Nays: None. Absent: None. Motion carried.

Alderman Sutton requested that the Business Utility Review be tabled until the next meeting when more information is expected that would be helpful to Council in making a decision. Motion by Smith and seconded by Pesall to table the Business Utility Review until the next Council Meeting. The following members voted aye: Bjerke, Pesall, Sample, Smith, Sutton, and Tufty. Nays: None. Absent: None.

The Mayor provided Council with a list of names he is recommending for appointment to the Flandreau Cemetery Committee.

Motion by Bjerke and seconded by Smith to approve Change Order No. Five (5) for the Water, and Wastewater Project, Phase 1A, which adjusts the base bid by decreasing it $39,184.00 to remove concrete pavement from the project and increasing it $4,222.00 for actual quantities; adjusts the alternate bid by decreasing it $27,961.92 for actual quantities; and extends the substantial completion date to May 31, 2017.
