Hello and welcome to Culver Road for the inaugural meeting with Leatherhead FC Leatherhead have just been promoted into step 6 and currently lead the Northern Division while our neighbours Saltdean United DS lead the southern division which speaks to the quality of women ’ s football throughout the pyramid.
Our last time on the pitch involved us trying to upset the structural integrity of the pyramid as we attempted to conquer Step 4 Chesham United In the week leading up to the game I constantly referred to the Jamaican bobsled team of 1988 immortalised in the 1993 movie Cool Runnings.
In one of the many occasions I have not stopped to consider if an idea was too silly, each of the players arrived to find a lucky egg with their name and corresponding number on it placed on a table in the centre of the changing room. This didn’t inspire them to victory but like I said at the start of the week it was never about winning but simply believing we could and at half-time when we were 2-1 down, not one player doubted we could get something and although we didn’t in the end, we equalised shortly after the restart
I was incredibly proud of the players efforts that significantly rattled a team two divisions above us and we left Chesham with our heads held high knowing we gave our all even though it wasn’t enough, much like the Jamaican bobsled team of 1988
I’ve never made any secret of how much I love the FA Cup but it is also a relief that it’s over for another season Once again I want to reiterate how proud I am of the team’s efforts but a much more tangible measure of our success is how we fare in almost every other competition We have never advanced beyond the first round of the league cup and although there are no easy games in this league, we have had some tough draws in recent years and Leatherhead are no exception but we will be hoping today proves the exception to previous years.

What makes us an attractive team to play for?
We hold ourselves to a high standard of football both at training and matchesthe coaches are always supportive and encouraging us to strive further
What’s been your favourite memory in a Villa shirt?
Scoring a hat trick last season against Hastings United, obviously
What professional teams and players inspire you? Including in the women’s game?
Lotte Wubben-Moy, not only as an inspirational style icon, has started a project with Arsenal’s community hub the “Time to explore” program providing creative opportunities for girls in London.
What do you think the team can achieve this season?
We’ve got some great new players which has kept us versatile and dangerous on the attack, whilst Serena in goal is insanely good. So who knows what mvwfc can achieve?
If you were an animal, what would you be?
Labrador, so I can play fetch all day long
