Manager Notes

It's nice to be returning home. I have some fantastic memories at Culver Road, but I also have some bad ones The work Sarg done prior to me coming back into the dugout has given me every chance of keeping this club up.

I have chosen not to focus on the league table or results of other sides. We have to shut out the outside noise and control the controllable

This last week the team have been superb and I would go as far as saying this is one of the better Montpelier Villa sides. A good mix of technical ability, a strong mindset and good attitudes

Hard work beats talent when talent isn't working and we are working hard with some very talented players

We as a side have agreed to enjoy the challenge and have fun. That's what we will do and try play some lovely football at the same time.

INTERVIEW WITH JOE KINSMAN

Welcome to Villa! What have you enjoyed so far in your time here?

I’ve enjoyed being a part of the squad the most It’s a great bunch of lads and there is a lot of desire amongst us to push on up the league I think that’s a great thing to be apart of and hopefully soon that desire will start to show in the results

Can you tell us about your playing journey so far?

My playing journey has been an interesting one I played as a Striker for Worthing Utd at youth level and got my call up to the first team when I was 16 Later in that season I broke my leg and had to miss a whole year of football When I came back I moved to Lancing Fc where I played a few games for the u18’s and then broke my leg again I missed another year of football and returned to Worthing Utd for 2 years and then moved to East Preston last year I couldn’t quite break into the teams after a lot of managerial changes and decided to come to Villa this season to get back to the levels I was playing at before my injuries

What professional teams and players inspire you?

I’m a huge West Ham fan so growing up watching them we ’ ve had a fair few great players One that always sticks out to me though is Mark Noble because he showed his whole career that you dont have to be the best player technically as long as you work hard and leave everything on the pitch. I try and bring that into my game as much as possible. The other is Messi for obvious reasons The way he moves with the ball at his feet is insane

What do you think the team can achieve this season?

I think this squad has the potential to achieve some great things We need to take it step by step but I want to see us pushing as far up the league as possible and be competing up the top against the best teams

If you were an animal, what would you be?

If I was an animal I would be a badger Don’t ask why, I’m not too sure but it’s always been in my Xbox name since a kid so it’s basically a part of me now. It’s even turned into my nickname as all my friends call me badge.

What made you want to join Villa?

I wanted to join Villa as I think the club ethos is great and the projects going on will create a good environment for the future I’m really looking forward to the new facilities next year and knew it was a great opportunity for me to come play here and settle

ACTION

The club was established in 1920 as Loxwood and Alfold and joined the Rudgwick & District League. The club split in 1928 and Alfold joined the Cranleigh & District league, before becoming members of the Horsham & District League. They won the league title, the League Cup and the District Cup in 1953–54. When the league folded in the late 1960s, the club transferred to the West Sussex League. They won the Tony Kopp Cup in 1970–71 and were Division Two North champions 1980–81 and 1993–94, also winning the Surrey County Lower Junior Cup in 1988. The club won the Premier Division title in 2002–03 and the Chichester Charity Cup in 2010–11.

Alfold were Division Two runners-up in 2012–13, earning promotion to Division One. In 2015 they moved up to Division Two of the Southern Combination. A fourth-place finish in 2017–18 was enough to earn promotion to Division One. The following season saw the club win the Division One title, resulting in promotion to the Premier Division. In 2022–23 they finished second-from-bottom of the Premier Division and were relegated back to Division One.
