WHO’S BEEN SNOOPED?

Lollipop Haircut Shop Here it is the beginning of October and you’ve got to love the East County for the beautiful weather it unveils this time of year. The colors are spectacular and the sunsets are to die for. It’s a great time to get ready for cooler weather and family get-togethers.

That being said, a good way to get the kiddies ready is with a great haircut.

On assignment, I am off to visit one of East County’s finest hair cut establishments for the younger generation. Remembering my youth, I always dreaded that day because it seemed like they just chopped it off and it was always too short. Lollipop Haircut Shop is the greatest idea, well, since the lollipop itself! Located on Lone Tree Way, a couple doors down from the Goodwill Store, this wonderland for haircuts can be seen from the parking lot with it’s great Lollipop logo on the sign.

As I entered the front door, I felt like a

kid again. The bright bold colors and reception area, filled with fun stuff to do is a great way to welcome the youngest client for their first or next haircut. I was greeted by one of the stylists with a great big smile and cordial hello. I told her I was researching the place for a friend and was really impressed with the décor.

The place was full and every one of the kids was having a great time. I highly recommend that you visit in person or go to the website (lollipophaircutshop.com) to check out these neat styling chairs that look like cars. I would have loved this place as a kid.

I think the best part of Lollipops is the cleanliness. Everything is bright and cheery and immaculate. The styling stations are so cute with four different car designs to choose from. The kids that were there getting haircuts ALL had smiles on their faces and were enjoying the experience. They have a Baby’s 1st Haircut Package where you receive a certificate, photo and lock of hair for memories that last forever and every customer gets a free lollipop. BRILLIANT! They also have a variety of professional products and a line just for kids. How cool is that? You can either walk in or make an appointment and they are open

Monday through Saturday and three Sundays a month. They open at 10am weekdays and 9am on Saturday. They also do buzz cuts, bangs and hair washes.

Imagine being able to watch television in a miniature racecar and get your haircut from a really nice lady. Then, get a lollipop too!

Although it appears to be just for kids, these gals also do adult haircuts. Now that is a great plus! You can bring our kids for an enjoyable experience and get your hair done at the same time. And if you’re good, you too can get a lollipop.

Dry Mouth Dry mouth, or Xerostomia, is a symptom rather than a disease. It is often caused by lack of saliva. Saliva cleanses the mouth, helps with the swallowing of food, and protects oral tissues by lubricating them, facilitating speech and taste. Saliva inhibits the growth of harmful viruses and bacteria, prevents demineralization of teeth, and maintains the neutral pH in the mouth.

Dryness in the mouth can make tasting, chewing, swallowing and speaking difficult. It also may lead to a burning sensation in the mouth, cracked lips, dry and rough tongue, cavities, bad breath and infections of the soft tissue of the mouth.

Common causes of dry mouth include taking certain medications, diseases of the salivary glands, neurological and psychological disorders and also side effects from cancer treatments, such as

radiation and chemotherapy. More than 400 prescription and over the counter medicines can cause dry mouth. These include medicines for allergies, colds, high blood pressure, painkillers and drugs for depression. Adequate saliva flow is important to keep the mouth clean, otherwise gum disease and cavities become more common. Constant dryness may lead to bad breath and increase root cavities in patients who have gum recession. Dry mouth also can make dentures less comfortable to wear because there is no film of saliva to help dentures hold on well to the oral tissues.

If you are taking medication for allergies or blood pressure, as mentioned above, please do read the drug inserts that come with your medicines. If you think one or more of them may be causing dry mouth, talk with your physician, who may be able to change the medication, which could give relief from the dryness.

There are things you can do to ease dry mouth. Drinking more fluids or sucking on ice chips can help, as well as sucking on sugar free candy to increase the salivary flow. Keeping the air moist with a humidifier at your bedside or other places in your home, using alcohol free mouthwash, the use of artificial salivary

substitutes and applying a lanolin based ointment to dry lips can also help. In addition, avoiding caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and carbonated drinks helps to prevent dryness in the mouth. Lastly, keep your regular checkups with the dentist.

Getting fluoride treatments would be very beneficial to protect the teeth and the roots from getting cavities, and be sure to tell your dentist about the medications you are taking and other health details as well.

IS YOUR HOME READY? There is little debate when it comes to putting your home on the market that you will need a plan. While you and your Agent may be motivated to get going, selling your home involves strategy and you’re going to need a plan. Every home will sell for a price, but the preparation of your home is going to make a big difference in the final price you receive.

One of the biggest mistakes a Seller can make is putting their home on the market prematurely and underestimating the losses they will suffer as a result. Recently I visited a beautiful home on the golf course with a great view of Brentwood from the hills. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long to identify a pet odor that made the home somewhat offensive to walk through. Failing to rid the house of this “big detail” will no doubt cost the Seller’s extra time on the market, lost Buyers, and offers that fail to meet their expectation.

Let’s talk about some obvious realities.

In the business of real estate, when your home is open for Buyers to preview, less is more. If your home is filled with furniture and personal belongings, (we call it clutter) you will have considerably less appeal to the prospective Buyers. If you’re going to be occupying your home during the sales process, it can be very profitable to rent storage space and remove as much as you’re willing from the home to make it appear more spacious and comfortable. There is little debate in mind that a home with minimal quality furnishings is considerably more attractive than the empty home or the crowded one.

Not every Seller has the privilege of moving “before” they sell. But, when you consider the cost, and the expensive storage bags that they want to sell to you, you realize you could end up spending more than if you purchased smaller quantities— individually wrapped—directly from the butcher.

Isn’t it annoying when you attempt a simple home improvement task like hanging a picture and it becomes a struggle? You measure to center the hook, you measure the wire on the back of the picture so that the height will be just right and when you go to hang it, you simply can’t find the tip of the hook.

We are not against vacuum sealing anything from sweaters to food. But we are in favor of not wasting money. Here’s what we’ve discovered; you already own a vacuum sealing machine—it’s your vacuum cleaner. To vacuum-pack food, clothing or camping supplies do the following:

How can you get the wire on the hook without becoming frustrated? The answer is an everyday drinking straw. You can leave it intact or cut it in half—depending on the size of the picture. The bigger the picture, the longer the straw must be.

Place the straw over the end of the picture hook. It will extend the line of the hook to a point above the picture frame.

• Put whatever you want to store into a high-quality plastic (food or clothing) storage bag.

A homemade vacuum-sealing device If you watch television at all, you’ve probably seen one of those infomercials where they sell the latest and greatest vacuum-seal machine. You buy in quantity to save money and then take the big

There are few things more frustrating than going to your workshop to look for something and discovering that, between that moment and the last time you were there, someone jumbled the thing you now need—be it string, rope, rubber bands or bungee cords—into a knotted mess.

We have a solution—pipe or tubing. We suggest a lighter material like plastic, but any kind of pipe will do. Cut the piece a little longer than the cords you want to store. Then all you have to do is hook the bungee to one end of the pipe, stretch it slightly and hook the bungee over the other end of the pipe.

Cut as many pipes as you have bungee cords. The diameter of the pipe can vary according to your needs.

• Place the mouth of the bag around the tip of your vacuum cleaner hose and turn on the vacuum.

String and twine are easy too. Cut the letter “H” out of a piece of cardboard, plastic or thin plywood. Wrap your string or twine around the center part (horizontal section) of the H. You’ll never have to fight knots again.

• When all of the air has been sucked out of the bag, twist it several times, fold at the twist and use tape or a rubber band to maintain the bend.

Finally, to keep nuts and bolts from working loose, coat their threads with clear nail polish and screw the nut onto the bolt.

This procedure will guarantee an airtight seal—and freshness.
