WHO’S BEEN SNOOPED?

OMG! It is hot! Seems like that is the phrase of the day here in the farmlands. Just came from downtown where the Farmers Market just closed and the Brentwood Art Wine & Jazz Festival is ramping up for a beautiful hot summer night in City Park. The corn has been harvested and can be found in your local Safeway and the last load of garlic and bell peppers will make their way to market in the next few days. You can hardly see Mt. Diablo from the smoke and smog, but local residents are taking advantage of some amazing pool time. What a great time to check in on a local gal who can put sparkle on anything.

Her name is Dawn Gibson and she is the owner of DK Custom Tees in Discovery Bay. The best part of this assignment is I was in the market for a local business to do some hats and shirts for some boating friends and I was wanting a little dazzle. I gave her a call and asked if I could come by to talk about my ideas and she answered right away with gracious hello. Working out of her home in Disco Bay, she is easy to find and generally available if

Upon arrival, I peeked inside her working headquarters in the garage and she stopped right away and met me at the front door. I liked her right away because, she, like me, seemed to be busier than a bee and ready to take on a new task without any hesitation. This is the dazzle part! I had my logo and wanted to put it on girls baseball caps, you know the ones with the Velcro in the back for easy ponytails, and have half sparkle and half your standard print. Her comment was “I love when someone brings me an idea and then I’m able to bring it to life!” How cool is that! And, the really great part is I don’t have to order 100.

I think I liked that she was so friendly and has been in business since 2007. Truth be told, I have heard her name mentioned many times over the years and am proud to say that the Monthly Grapevine has used her several times and is more than happy to refer her. She offers Car & Boat Vehicle Graphics, regular vinyl, glitter and rhinestones, Spirit Wear and Team Apparel for schools and local teams and Boot Camp Works. I am pretty sure if you can dream it, she can do it. You can even bring a copy of your logo and she will send it out to create your own file, or bring your logo file in and she can do the rest. And, she seemed to get excited about my project which was another bonus. When I asked for a ballpark range of pricing, I was pleased to hear that it was so affordable. TRAVEL TIME

Holiday Travel With summer almost gone, even though it does not feel like it, its difficult to think that Autumn is on the way. Yes, its time to start planning your holiday travel.

Although the days still are sunny and hot, they are becoming shorter and before you know it Fall will be upon us and popular holiday vacation spots will be difficult to find. So now is the time to think about holiday travel. Space is limited and if you wait too long your holiday plans can be spoiled.

So what might you be thinking in terms of a holiday vacation now? How about a holiday cruise? The cruise lines adjust many of their schedules during the holidays and many are longer cruises than normal. There are Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s cruises. Most of them at this time do have availability and of course most of them are in the warm weather climates. You don’t have to go to Florida anymore for a warm weather cruise. In addition to the Mexican Riviera cruises that originate on the West Coast,

there are closer ports for other seven day cruises, such as New Orleans and Galveston. And from Florida there are several ports that you can choose from including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral and Orlando.

Fluoride toothpaste has been recommended for more than 50 years to prevent and control dental caries. More than 25 percent of children have or had dental caries by the time they enter kindergarten. The use of fluoride toothpaste in infants and children have been changed during this period of time in an effort to maximize the caries prevention and to minimize the risk of dental fluorosis. Children younger than 5 years tend to swallow toothpaste while brushing. Older children are more able to spit out toothpaste consistently after brushing. Many researchers have found that brushing with fluoride toothpaste reduces dental caries in school children but fluoride toothpaste use at an early age can be associated with dental fluorosis. This depends on the number of times the child brushed his or her teeth with the toothpaste, the amount of toothpaste dispensed every time the child

Therefore, considering the best available evidence and the continued high caries rate in children the American Dental Association currently advises parents and caregivers to brush with water, and to consult with a dentist before using fluoride toothpaste for children younger than two years. Use of a pea sized amount of fluoride toothpaste is recommended

The ADA also recommends for children younger than 3 years to begin brushing teeth as soon as they come into the mouth by using fluoride toothpaste no more than a smear or the size of a grain of rice. Brush teeth thoroughly twice per day as directed by the dentist. Children 3 to 6 years of age should be supervised while brushing to minimize swallowing of toothpaste. It is also important to keep up with the regular checkup with the dentist to prevent and to protect children’s teeth from getting cavities.

age or older who moved to a nursing home and/or received home and community-based services; 3. Limits recovery to only those assets subject to California probate; and

New Medi-Cal Recovery Laws Medi-Cal is California’s version of the federal Medicaid program. Medi-Cal is jointly funded by the state and federal government and provides free or low cost medical assistance for low income or low resource individuals.

4. Restricts the amount of interest that the state can charge on liens.

5. Requires the state to waive the claim as a substantial hardship when the estate subject to recovery is a homestead or modest value, i.e. a home whose fair market value is 50% or less of the average price of homes in the county where the homestead is located; and

Until now, California law allowed MediCal to seek recovery from recipients who received any Medi-Cal benefits when they were 55 years of age or older, regardless of when medical services were received.

Holding property as joint tenants will also prevent recovery, but holding property in this form is generally not recommended and should not be done without consulting an attorney.

Business coaching is a type of human resource development for business leaders. It provides positive support, feedback and advice on an individual or group basis to improve personal effectiveness in the business setting. Coaches help their clients advance towards specific professional goals. These goals include career transition, interpersonal and professional communication, performance management, organizational effectiveness, managing career and personal life changes, developing executive presence, enhancing strategic thinking, dealing effectively with conflict, and building an effective team within an organization.

In the last ten years the coaching industry has exploded. A report by the Market research firm IBISWorld said coaching is a growing $1 billion dollar industry in the United States alone and one of the fastest growing industries for upcoming entrepreneurs. Whether you need a life coach or a business coach there are many options available to you but for many an expense of such magnitude can be very costly and sometimes not within the budget. But, as you will quickly discover the results achieved by professional coaching has a great return on its investment and

is one of the best investments to your business. The question that then comes to mind is, “So how can the upcoming or struggling entrepreneur receive coaching within their budget?” SelfCoaching might be your best option until you reach a level financially that allows you the ability to add coaching outside of yourself to your business budget. Self-Coaching is being your own life or professional coach to help you provide direction and structure and motivation for yourself through an introspective process that will help identify and achieve personal and professional goals. I have listed some practices that you can use to start coaching yourself, providing much of the same kind of direction, structure and motivation that a coach would provide.

Determine and write down your vision and the action steps needed to be achieved in order to succeed. Examine these goals daily to keep them at the top of your mind at all times.

Setup self-accountability and share those goals and numbers with someone else (personally or professionally) Establish where you are and where you want to go.

Keep a very detailed daily journal of strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures of the day.

After 8 weeks of journaling examine what are the patterns you see positive and negative. What do you focus on the most positive or negative daily?

How can you get more positive things and circumstances in your life?

Resolve internal problems by writing

them down. How do you feel while you are thinking those negative thoughts (shame, guilt, fear)? Ask yourself the difficult questions such as does this relationship personally or professionally need to change? Is this relationship building me up or tearing me down?

Do your behaviors mirror the way you want God and others to believe you to be? What things are you doing today that will keep you from meeting your goals?

Expand your comfort zone! Face those fears!! Write down fears and decipher where those fears surfaced from and how can facing and defeating that fear help you in your business and life.

Try new things – find your passion and include that passion into your work life.

When you love what you do you will be unstoppable!

Listen to yourself. Meditate on the feelings, frustrations and joys that constantly run through your mind daily and force yourself to not push them aside but instead to face them directly and either do something to change them or tell yourself that it is out of your control and surrender it to God! Most importantly I must say above all else that the best coach is disciplined but ALWAYS supportive while guiding and teaching so be your best loving and firm coach you can be and watch your life and dreams/visions come alive!
