Direct Mailed to over 59,000 Homes & Businesses Monthly • 925-634-0880 Successful Spending If you’re looking at trying to calculate how much your spending in print advertising translates into sales, you’re technically looking at Return on Ad Spending (ROAS). For all intents and purposes, what qualifies as a “success” is a conversion into a sale. There are the usual things to help that “success” along. Like putting a coupon in your print ad and have the consumer bring it in for a discount or “free gift.” Or you can ask each customer “how did you hear about us?” and calculate how many of them say “from the Grapevine.” Most business owners already know this but other variables to consider are:

PUBLISHER

Bluewater Publishing LLC CEO/EDITOR

Sonya North SALES EXECUTIVE

Amy Bright CREATIVE DEPARTMENT

• Time of year, are the kids out of school and people are spending on vacations instead of painting their house?

Samantha Becerra

• What is going on economically, are people feeling uncertain with a new President in the White House?

DIGITAL MARKETING

FYI Media TV

• How much competition is there in the area that I’m marketing in? What makes me stand out above my competition. Let your ad reflect that.

CONTRIBUTING WRITERS

Another important part is the means of distribution. Is your print ad being mailed, thrown or rack in various locations? What is the distribution number? Not number of readers, that is different, some publishers multiply the printed piece by 2-4 times (based on occupants per home) to arrive at a readership number. The distribution number represents the actual number of printed publications to individual homes and businesses, and it is the least speculative method in determining the market penetration.

SOCIAL MEDIA CONSULTANT

We can help you design an ad for your company, based on 20+ years experience that reflects your target audience. We will put your ad up on HD TV screens in our community that people will see over and over again AND we will direct mail your print ad each and every month and we can prove it, just ask us for a proof of mailing! Best of luck to you!

providing valuable funding for important regional programs to help those in need.

Holy Cross Cemetery Life is truly precious and every moment a cherished gift, as all living creatures are faced with the inevitability of leaving this world at one time or another. Holy Cross Cemetery and Holy Angels Funeral & Cremation Center of Antioch is a complete resource for all end-of-life services. The professional, dedicated, and supportive staff are honored to provide patrons with specialized funeral arrangements designed to meet the unique needs of each person they serve. Owned by the Roman Catholic Church, Holy Cross is a ministry of the Diocese of Oakland that has been in operation since 1862. A nonprofit organization founded by faith, they provide education, outreach, grief ministry, and funeral, cemetery, and cremation services. Devoted to their families, they are always guided by faith, cultural traditions, and the financial preferences of each family or individual. Family Service Counselors can assist you in preparing a pre-arranged plan, as having your affairs in order is a kind gift to those you leave behind who are facing the emotional grieving process. As a registered nonprofit faith-based organization, all proceeds received by Holy Cross help to support churches, schools, and various charitable programs within the community. They are pleased to provide a dual service to their locality. They do so by helping people through sorrowful times and simultaneously

A funeral home was recently erected on the premises that provides greater accommodation to the needs of Holy Cross families. All-encompassing services have greatly assisted in the support of patron families, easing the strain during their time of loss. The caring funeral directors guide you through all aspects of the service to include funeral flowers, casket choices, appropriate music, and local accommodations. Special programs and events are offered at the cemetery, giving people the chance to reflect and honor those who meant so much to them. Events are held on Mother’s Day, All Soul’s Day, and other days throughout the year to join in unison and celebrate the loved ones who have gone before us. It is a time to commemorate the lives of those who made an impact on others through love and faith.

directly to a tuition assistance endowment fund for students with an ardent desire to pursue a Catholic education. The City of Antioch has proclaimed May 3rd as Holy Cross Cemetery Day due to their strong commitment to the community. Holy Cross is an active participant among all business chambers in the area. They are closely connected with all regional churches, including affiliated religious institutions of the Oakland Diocese. Holy Cross Cemetery and Holy Angels is devoted to earning your trust. Their mission is to be a faith-based community resource for today and tomorrow, and their reward is to walk hand-in-hand with you through the tough process of letting go. Whether interested in advanceplanning or in need of immediate assistance, Holy Cross Cemetery is there for guidance and support.

The cemetery is also home to Bishop’s Vineyard; the warmer climate caters to thick-skinned varietals such as Sauvignon and Zinfandel grapes. Their wines have gained recognition and received multiple awards including the 2016 Monterey International Wine Competition, the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and several Grand Harvest Awards in years prior. The vineyard adds stunning beauty to this peaceful resting place, and tours are available. Additionally, benevolent support is provided through wine sales. A portion of these proceeds are contributed

LAW OFFICES OF MICHAEL PRIMUS

Bankruptcy The idea of bankruptcy scares people, primarily because of the credit ramifications. Often people wonder what will show on their credit report after bankruptcy. Some people assume bankruptcy will remove everything except the bankruptcy. Others are unsure what will show but assume it will be horrible. Credit reports are intended to be an accurate chronology of financial events, before and after bankruptcy. Most people assume their credit reports will be accurate, but that is rarely the case. The credit reporting laws do not require lenders to report anything. It is true, lenders are not required to report your payment history. Most major banks like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase and Citibank routinely report to the credit reporting agencies, but most payday lenders and small businesses do not. This means your credit report may omit substantial information.

accurate. Disputing marks on a credit report must be done in writing, so there is no point in calling the credit reporting agencies. Written disputes can be submitted by mail or online.

After a bankruptcy is discharged, your debts are forgiven and there is nothing due or late to report. Often, accounts discharged in bankruptcy will be reported as “discharged,” but the law does not require it. Unfortunately, the prebankruptcy late payments, collections and other problems will remain on your credit report. They say time heals all wounds, and that is true for credit reports. Most marks, good or bad, are removed after 7 years.

In summary, a credit report should accurately reflect financial events before and after bankruptcy. After bankruptcy, you have the chance to begin anew. At the Law Office of Michael Primus we have helped thousands of clients get out of debt, stop wage garnishments, and start fresh through bankruptcy. We offer a free consultation and have offices in Walnut Creek, Antioch, and Hercules.

Most people realize good credit is a history of on-time payments, and bad credit is a history of missed or late payments. Paying cash for purchases may be a wise financial decision, but it will not demonstrate your ability to repay loans. If, for example, you take new credit cards after bankruptcy you can begin to establish a history of paying debts on time. The way you use and pay revolving debt, like credit cards, accounts for 40% of your credit score making it the largest factor in a credit score. Payment history accounts for 35% of your credit score making it very important too. Once a lender decides to report to the credit reporting agencies, the law requires all reporting to be truthful and accurate. The law gives consumers the right to dispute any mark that is not truthful and

AMY’S BRIGHT ADVICE

1. Interpret what you hear. Don’t act as a parrot and repeat verbatim what was being said to you instead summarize the important points.

The Art of Listening Did you know that the need to be understood and listened to is a basic human need, along with food, water and shelter? As Diogenes Laertius said: “We have two ears and only one tongue in order that we may hear more and speak less.” The art of listening is an invaluable life skill.  Not only will it help you succeed in your business but it will also help you communicate better with your friends and family and every other area of your life. “According to the International Listening Association, more than 35 studies indicate that listening is a top skill needed for success in business, yet less than 2 percent of all professionals obtain training to improve listening skills,” Majer says, “Instead, the advantage is in customer service, and the essence of customer service is listening. When you really listen to customers and take their concerns seriously, they’re happy to do business with you, even if your prices are a bit higher.” Important Listening Tips to Master:

Brentwood Art Society’s 16th Annual

2. Clarify what you heard the other person say. ‘Let me be sure I understood you perfectly,’ and then you will paraphrase what was said in your own words and tell them what you think he or she meant. 3. Ask open-ended questions. Openended questions help form a deeper communication. Examples of openended questions in a networking atmosphere would be: “Tell me more about that…” or “What’s the biggest or most challenging thing you have experienced in your business?” These type of questions give you the ability to get a true feel for their beliefs, wants and needs, but most importantly the ability for you to listen more than speak. 4. Validate what you heard. Listening does not always mean agreeing but it does entail you being attentive and engaged assuring that the other is feeling heard. It’s imperative to receive a persons input with enthusiasm and due respect, even if the input is uninvited or you do not agree with what they are saying. 5. Do not interrupt. The goal of true listening is to let others have the

spotlight not you. 6. Listen without thinking. Humans tend to only listen to the beginning of what someone is saying and then start to form their response, while the other person is still speaking. Listen without forming responses in your mind. Stay focused on their words and then formulate a response. 7. Listen to Non-Verbal Communication. It is essential to know what the person’s body is saying. Do they display signs of discomfort?  Are they untrusting of you?  Does their body language align with their words? Building relationships is the ultimate goal and productive communication is the way to achieve that goal. The most important question one should ask yourself when in a conversation with another is: If I am speaking but nobody is interested in wanting to hear what I am saying, am I really communicating or am I just talking? Make sure that your words are valuable to someone else and more importantly when someone is speaking with you make sure they feel that you find their words valuable.
