HEART TO HEART CELEBRATION GALA FOR SENIOR WISHES An Elderly Wish Foundation has announced the date of February 21, 2015 for it’s major fundraiser, the 13th Annual Heart to Heart Gala, “Wishes Are Magical.” The majority of funds generated from this gala event will help “to enrich the days of the chronically ill seniors, in Contra Costa County, by making a life-long wish come true.”

This elegant event will be held at Antioch’s Lone Tree Golf and Event Center, 4800 Golf Course Road.

This semi-formal evening is held from 5:30pm to 11:00pm, tickets are $65 per person, with black & white cocktail attire. Guests will enjoy cocktails starting at 5:30pm, followed by dinner, a magical performance, featuring magician Alex Ramon, and a live auction. Toothpaste Selection When you walk down the toothpaste aisle at the grocery or drug store it can be overwhelming to see all the different kinds of toothpastes available over the counter and you might be wondering which toothpaste is best for you and your family.

There are toothpastes for anti-cavity, anti-gingivitis, tartar control, teeth sensitivity, bad breath, teeth whitening, and dry mouth. Anti-cavity toothpastes usually have sodium fluoride and the concentration of this ingredient will be less in children’s toothpaste than the adult toothpaste. Anti-gingivitis toothpastes may have a combination of ingredients, which help in reducing bacteria that are linked to gingivitis. Tartar control toothpaste have tetra sodium pyrophosphate in them but some patients may be sensitive to this ingredient.

Toothpastes for teeth sensitivity usually have potassium nitrate that seems to

help with the sensitivity problem if used on a regular basis. The ingredients in toothpastes for fighting bad breath usually have zinc, essential oils, chlorine dioxide and xylitol. The whitening toothpaste have hydrogen peroxide or sodium carbonate peroxide as the whitening agents, beware of using toothpaste with abrasives in them, as these ingredients tend to wear away the enamel. Toothpaste for dry mouth usually contains xylitol, which is a natural sugar.

There are some toothpastes available only with a dentist’s prescription. So, ask your dentist at your next teeth cleaning visit, which toothpaste is best for your dental health. Some medications may cause dry mouth, resulting in cavities and/or bad breath. Sometimes, patients who have had gum surgery or orthodontic treatment need to use a specific kind of toothpaste, which the dentist would certainly recommend as the need arises.

Habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking carbonated drinks, chewing gum and eating acidic food may affect the teeth and the gums. These habits need to be changed, instead of the toothpaste to keep the teeth and gums healthy.

Sometimes, the patient’s hand dexterity may affect maintaining good oral hygiene,

which has to be addressed with your dentist for a prescription toothpaste.

Therefore, it is best to keep up the regular dental checkups and ask your dentist what toothpaste is best for you and your family to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

First Generation Farmers (FGF) is a non-profit community farm based in Knightsen that emerged in mid-2013, in response to the declining number of farmers and farms in the US. One quarter of farmers are set to retire by 2020, and there is a growing trend for landowners to sell land for more profitable, non-agricultural uses, such as urban development. “This is going to be the biggest land change of hands that the United States has ever seen, and if we don’t start using it to grow food, we’re going to have a food shortage,” said Alli Cecchini, founder of First Generation Farmers.

With the US population to increase 15 million by 2020, and an increasing demand for domestic food, we need more farmers.

FGF wants to launch the first and largest incubator program to get younger generations of people interested in farming. So, they’re getting ready for their First Generation Farmers Kickstarter launch! To get the program up and running, they need your support to expand their greenhouse, buy seeds and supplies, and train younger farmers. They already have the land and the farming skills, but need more people to get involved. Right now they’re farming on less than five acres of specialty organic crops, but have more than 100 acres to work with in California’s fertile East Bay. That’s a lot of land — enough to produce up to 150,000 lbs. of food per year!

That’s why they’re launching an incubator program, which will provide aspiring farmers and anyone interested in sustainable agriculture with the resources, hands-on skills and land to grow food year-round. They are open to both short-term and longterm farmers, specifically young, aspiring ones. Their Kickstarter goal is to raise $50,000 in 40 days. You can help by donating to their Kickstarter, which launched on November 28th, 2014.
