Speakers Martha H. Brown, Esquire Chief Legal Counsel, Pennsylvania Secretary of State Office Martha H. Brown is a graduate of the Dickinson School of Law, earning her Juris Doctorate in 1996. She received her baccalaureate degree in psychology and German literature from Mount Holyoke College. After a year in private practice affiliated with the Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center, she began employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1997, initially with the Department of Public Welfare, Bureau of Hearings and Appeals and with the Department of Labor and Industry, Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board.

Since 2000, she has served as Assistant Counsel with the Office of General Counsel and assigned to the Department of State. She initially was legal counsel to the State Board of Nursing and the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. Since 2005, she has counseled the Department’s Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations, State Athletic Commission and Bureau of Notaries, Commissions and Legislation.

Jeanne Sorg Montgomery County, PA Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg was elected Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds in November 2015 and assumed office in January 2016. Sorg is originally from Minnesota and is the daughter of the first permanent female miner on the “Iron Range,” who was also the first female mayor of the small taconite mining town of Babbitt, located in Northern Minnesota.

Besides her position as Recorder of Deeds, Jeanne is currently Mayor of Ambler Borough. Sorg serves on the Ambler Main Street Board and is an active member of the Ambler Mennonite Church.

Noah Malier Montgomery County Prothonotary Noah grew up right here in Montgomery County, attending Jenkintown Public Schools from kindergarten through senior year. Noah states his parents instilled in him progressive values: a dedication to service of others who may be less fortunate than him and an appreciation for diversity of life experiences.

In college at James Madison University, Noah joined 1 in 4, a group of male students who educated peers on how to help a sexual assault survivor. 1 in 4 was a galvanizing force in his life, deepening his desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

After teaching United States history in a public school in Virginia, Noah joined the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa, where he served as a teacher and teacher trainer for over two years. He taught local teachers better teaching practices with an emphasis on treating girl and boy students equally.

After returning from Malawi and graduating from Rutgers Law School he became an Assistant District Attorney right here in Montgomery County, prosecuting all types of cases, including sexual assault cases and economic crimes against the elderly. For the last five years, as a municipal attorney, Noah have represented and appeared in court often on behalf of towns and school districts throughout Montgomery County, and he’s proud to be an associate at the firm Hamburg Rubin. Noah lives in Springfield with his wife, Lindsay, who is a nurse, and two young boys.

Conference Presenters Ebony Locke was born and raised in Dayton Ohio by a beautiful mother who was also an

entrepreneur. Unfortunately, by the time Ebony was 15, she had lost both parents and was thrown into a world of uncertainty. From an early age, Ebony learned the value of hard work and the need to overcome pain. She learned then that her passion was to help others, and this led her to pay her way through nursing school as a single mom. Ebony is now a mom, a Nurse and New entrepreneur. She is the owner of Ebony’s Mobile Notary and the founder of 757 Notary Sisters, the vehicle through which she hosts networking events and invites seasoned experts to impart knowledge to the new notaries.

She was commissioned in February 2021, and since then, she has been able to establish herself as a well-respected notary/signing agent. Ebony stands out as personable and professional amongst her peers. Ever since embarking on the entrepreneurial journey, Ebony has learned the importance of building relationships and establishing networks. The one thing Ebony knows is that every experience is a learning opportunity, and I will not pass up any opportunity to learn something new. Through Ebony’s nursing experience, she also built relationships with CEO’s and Medical Directors in the healthcare industry. This has given Ebony insight on the business side of running medical facilities. This is where the entrepreneurial seed that catapulted her into the business world was planted. Ebony is now running a successful business looking forward to taking it to greater heights.

Judi Lawrence is the Founder and CEO of Center City Notary & Apostille Co. Judi is a Notary Public, an Apostille Agent and a Certified Notary Signing Agent. She serves as an NNA Ambassador and has presented at the NNA Conferences for several years. In 2018 Judi co-authored a book with Daniel C. Lewis entitled “Make Your Business Our Business” which has recently been updated.

Judi also founded the Lawrence Institute for Notaries (“LIN”), which is a teaching institute combined with a mentoring program. Judi is a certified education instructor for the State of Pennsylvania. She has developed an expertise in Apostilles. She developed a course entitled “WORLD OF APOSTILLES” which she teaches virtually and online throughout the USA. Judi is also the first recipient of the California League of Independent Notaries Master Notary Award in 2021. Judi sits on the Board of Elections. Her charitable endeavors include organizations such organizations as the Ronald MacDonald House, the American Cancer Society, and the Pennsylvania Ballet.

As a publicly commissioned official, a notary is tasked with verifying the authenticity of documents, and they serve as impartial witnesses when signing legal documents.

Speakers Lisa Sweeting has worked in the Customer Service industry for 35 years. She worked as

a Customer Service and Operations Manager for Pan Am and Delta Air Lines. Through that tremendous career, she gained a reputation as an experienced professional with solid competencies in Organizational Leadership, Operations Management, Training & Development, Facilitation, Customer Service, Project Management, and Operational Safety. She has also worked as a Hiring Manager in addition to training and developing employees to be promoted to supervisory positions.

For the last 18 years, she has owned a successful notary business in multiple states. She is currently a notary business owner, Certified Business Coach, and the founder of Notary Village LLC which provides notary training and publishing. Notary Village has trained over 500 notary students with individual & group coaching and on-line courses. Her Notary Foundations course has been approved by the Florida Office of the Governor as a state mandatory course for those seeking a Florida notary commission.

Lisa has the honor of serving as a National Notary Association Ambassador and is a published author. In addition, she is a Red Cross volunteer. Lisa studied Industrial Engineering at Northwestern University, Evanston Illinois and Organizational Management at St. Joseph’s College, Patchogue, New York.

Vanessa Terry is the Founder of Notary2Notary and the newly opened Notary Business

Center, the online training program that teaches anyone in the US how to build a successful notary signing business.

She was also awarded 2021 Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneurs to look out for as she is changing the way people work. Her passion is helping people reach their greatest potential through entrepreneurship and personal development.

Ross Cohen started GetPhound in 2013 after realizing there weren’t enough options for local

small business owners to market their services. They could either spend their valuable time trying a DIY marketing strategy or pay out of their price range for bells and whistles marketing they don’t necessarily need.

Ross created an agency where business owners can get exactly the right amount of marketing support, they need from a partner they trust. He truly loves being a lifeline for local businesses and helping them understand their value to the community.

Ross is an alum of Temple University’s Fox School of Business and lives in Conshohocken with his wife and three young children.

Speakers Bonny Davis has been a Notary and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries (PAN)

since 1993. Things have changed a bit in the past 29 years. For example, it is no longer required to use the embossing seal, for which Bonny’s hands and wrists are grateful. Bonny has notarized hundreds, if not thousands of documents but the one she is most proud of is from January 2015, when she notarized the paperwork for her friend, Leslie Richards, to become the Secretary of Transportation for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Bonny became a Notary when she was worked as a Paralegal, which she did for over 15 years, and in that capacity, she notarized many Estate Planning documents, such as Wills and Powers of Attorney, as well as Deeds, Mortgages, Notes, Incorporation documents, Name Changes, etc.

Bonny spent the past 13 years as the Springfield Township (Montgomery County) Tax Collector and Township Treasurer. For 7 of those years, Bonny was the President of the Montgomery County Tax Collectors Association and was very active with the Pennsylvania State Tax Collectors Association (PSTCA). Bonny graduated from Springfield Township High School and then, through the Early Admissions program, graduated one year later with an Associate Degree in Accounting from Montgomery County Community College. She got her first full-time job in 1975 at Prudential Insurance Company where, as a member of the Community Action Committee, she helped make the decision to what charities the company should give away their money.

After 6 years, Bonny left to raise her two children. She was extremely involved with their school activities and served in many leadership roles: PTA Treasurer, PTA President, and chair of many PTA committees. She was also a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Girl Scout leader. She served on the Springfield Township Recreation Advisory Committee, the Football Parent Association, Springfield Township School District Parent Advisory Committee, and the Springfield Secondary PTA. She even served 10 years as Treasurer for her Bowling League. She has also been a Board member of the Springfield Township School District Alumni Association organizing her high school reunions since 1984. For over 45 years, Bonny has been involved in international exchange programs, which have provided her with lifelong friends from all over the world. If all that and working as a paralegal didn’t keep her busy enough, Bonny went back to school to finish her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Chestnut Hill College in 2004 and was awarded the Scholastic Achievement Award for academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement. Politics came into Bonny’s life in early 2007, when she was asked to run for Commissioner in Springfield Township. Unfortunately, she lost, but only by 58 votes! In January 2009 Bonny was appointed to serve the last year of the Township Treasurer and Tax Collector’s term. She worked full-time at Fesnak & Associates, a public accounting firm for 3 years, and during that time she not only took on the job of Treasurer & Tax Collector, she also ran for election for her first 4-year term.

Bonny has been very active with the Springfield Township Democratic Committee, serving as a Committee person 15 years. Over those years, Bonny has also notarized many petitions for local, County, statewide, and Federal Candidates. She loves to crunch numbers after each election and enjoys attending fundraisers and other events meeting and supporting candidates. In 2018 she was thrilled to be named Democrat of the Year for her local Area’s Democratic Committee.

In 2013, Bonny was asked to be on the Board of the Montgomery County Democratic Women’s Leadership Initiative, which raised tens of thousands of dollars to support women candidates. She served as Treasurer of the MCDWLI for several years. She was also a Board member for Keystone Progress for several years. When she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January 2019, Bonny stepped down from most of the Boards on which she volunteered.

Bonny learned her hard work and volunteer ethics from her parents, of whom she is very proud. Sadly, she lost her mother last year, but her amazing 90-year-old father is still going strong. Bonny spends as much time as she possible can with her three granddaughters, (ages 3, 6, and 8) taking them to the theater, swimming, doing crafts, reading, and, most recently, to their first Phillies game.

Speakers Elizabeth Brendze practices elder law, estate planning, and probate administration as the sole proprietor of Liz Brendze Elder Law, in Narberth, Pennsylvania.

Upon graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990, Liz served as a law clerk at Massachusetts’ highest court, followed by four years at a Boston law firm. Liz moved to Philadelphia with her husband and joined the City of Philadelphia Law Department, also known as the City Solicitor’s Office.

There she focused on the City’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act in its physical structures, and with regulations governing the City’s use of federal grant money to fund housing counseling, affordable housing development, and economic development. Liz also taught legal writing, as an adjunct professor at Temple University Law School.

After experiencing the difficulties of providing care for her and her husband’s physically and cognitively declining parents, Liz turned to the practice of Elder Law. Liz helps local seniors and their loved one’s plan for their lifetime care, and their post-mortem legacies.

Liz is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Elder Law Section, Probate & Trust Section, and Solo and Small Firm Section, as well as the Montgomery Bar Association’s Elder Law Committee. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys, and Elder Counsel. Liz has participated in the Pennsylvania Bar Association / SeniorLAW Center Pro Bono Life Planning Clinic and formerly served as a Volunteer Attorney for the SeniorLAW Center, answering questions for the Pennsylvania SeniorLAW HelpLine. Liz is also accredited by Department of Veterans’ Affairs to present veterans’ benefit claims.

Roger Castile comes with a background in the finance and mortgage industry. He ran a signing

agency for Freedom Mortgage for many years hiring notaries throughout the United States managing up to 2,000 loan signings a month. Roger has personally closed more than 2300 loans signings in his notary career starting back in 2004. Roger now resides in West Palm Florida where he became RON certified and joined Secured Signing.

Roger has personally conducted over 450 RON signing sessions since joining Secured Signing a year and half ago. Roger has spoken at various conference both in person and online. Some of the topics include, learn to earn, how to manage a RON signing session and how to choose a RON vendor. Roger is happily married for 23 years to his wife Stephanie, and they have two daughters that are currently in college.

LaRhonda Prichett is a NJ and PA Licensed Title Producer and a NJ and PA Notary. With over 10 years of experience, LaRhonda is currently in Title Management. In this capacity she develops and creates small business startup processes for title companies.

Certified Notary Signing Agent Information and Instructions

To become a NNA Certified Notary Signing Agent, you must be a commissioned Notary Public and pass a Notary Signing Agent background screening and certification exam, also required by many lenders, signing services and title companies for signing assignments.

Steps for NNA Signing Agent Certification Step 1 — Choose a Certified Notary Signing Agent Package • You will receive an email from the NNA Training Center shortly after your purchase telling you how to access your training course (if purchased) and the NSA exam.

• A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the certification exam.

• You can begin filling out your SigningAgent.com profile (see below) after package purchase, however it will not be active until you pass your background screening.

Step 2 — Start your Background Screening • Within 48-72 hours of your package purchase, you will receive an email from Backgrounds Online with instructions on how to begin your background screening process.

• The background screening process generally takes up to 2 weeks but can take as long as 30 days for complex records.

• The background screening is comprised of both criminal and motor vehicle records.

• Download the Background Screening Standards to learn how your background screening will be scored, and to see if you have the qualifications to pass.

• Within 48 hours of passing, your listing will be live on SigningAgent.com.

Step 3 — Complete Your Certification • Once you successfully pass your NSA background screening AND our NSA Certification exam, you will have earned your NNA Certified and Background Screened Certification and your Certification will appear next to your listing on SigningAgent.com.

• If you also successfully complete our NSA Certification Training eLearning Course, you will earn a higher level of NSA Certification; NNA Trained, Certified and Background Screened, making you stand out above the others.

18 years or older Citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States Able to read and write English Nonresident OK if employed in PA; physical business address, no PO Box Have the honesty, integrity, competence and reliability to act as a Notary Public; conviction of or acceptance of Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition for a felony or lesser offense involving fraud, deceit or dishonesty will be reviewed by the Depertment; a finding against or admission of liability in a legal proceeding or Notary disciplinary action in any state will also be reviewed by the Department

q Step 2 I purchased my state-required Notary seal and supplies at NationalNotary.org/PA/Become or I called 1-800-876-6827. q Step 6 After my application is approved, I have received an email to register for the state exam. The email will contain details about how to schedule my exam. (Additional exam fee applies.) q Step 7 Once I have passed the exam, the state will email my bond and oath form, as well as the Notice to Appointee letter, to me in 4 to 6 weeks. The commission certificate is sent to the recorder of deeds in my county. q Step 8 Email or fax a copy of the bond form (the document with a barcode) as well as the Notice to Appointee letter to the NNA: Insurance@NationalNotary.org or fax to 1-800-833-1211. I will be sure to include my NNA Customer number. Once my documents are received, my stamp and bond will be shipped within 3 business days. q Step 9 Go to the Recorder of Deeds in my county to take the oath and record my bond within 45 days from my appointment date to receive my commission. q Step 10 Go to the office of the Prothonotary in my county within 45 days from my appointment to register my official signature.

Requirements Must have a Notary commission.

Services performed Mobile Notaries travel to the customer’s location to perform notarizations. They may charge up to the maximum fee set by state law for notarization services. In some states, they may also charge a separate travel fee for traveling to the customer’s location.

Where Mobile Notaries can offer services Mobile Notaries may offer services in any U.S. state where they hold a Notary commission. They may provide services to any customer or business that requires a notarization, as long as the notarization request is permitted by state law.

Requirements Must have a Notary commission.

Should be background screened and certified to meet compliance requirements for companies the Signing Agent performs assignments for. Requires a Title Insurance License, Closing Agent License or other special licensing in certain states.* Services performed Notary Signing Agents notarize signatures on loan documents for the mortgage and title industries, and will travel to the signer’s location to do so.

They are paid for notarizing and performing additional duties during assignments, such as printing and delivering loan document packages to the signer, ensuring that all needed signatures and initials are obtained on loan documents, and mailing completed loan document packages to the title company or lender.
