Photographer Brett Swain, who lives west of Kalispell in Marion, visits Glacier National Park year round. During a multiday trip to the Many Glacier area, he regularly spotted this snowshoe hare just off a hiking trail. “It would frequently take shelter under that ledge to escape the snow,” Swain says. “It was at about eye level, 30 yards away, when I took this shot. I put it off center in the frame and included the vegetation in the lower left-hand corner, as well as that bright-green moss above. I also wanted to capture the falling snowflakes to the right, plus the residual snow in the rocks.” n
