Dear Campers and Parents, Thank you for allowing your child to share their summer with the Monroe County YMCA! Summer Camp is so much more than fun in the sun. At the Y, we provide an exciting and safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, make lasting friends, and more.

Our counselors are wonderful role models, selected based on their experience, attitude, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm. They genuinely care about the individual development of each camper, helping them learn to live and work together as a community throughout the summer.

All staff are CPR and First Aid certified, and are additionally trained in risk management, child abuse prevention, behavior management, character development, and team building.

We are excited to see so many returning faces, and we are ready to welcome and embrace the newcomers to Summer Camp at the Monroe County YMCA. FAST FACTS AM EXTENDED DAY Offered at no additional cost with your Camp Arrowhead registration!

WHAT TO KNOW

Most campers spend their day outside. The following information will let parents know how to best prepare their camper for a great day: • Children must wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

• No sandals or flip flops.

• Sunscreen should be applied before camp.

• Please send your camper with a labeled water bottle, sunscreen, and a lunch that does not need refrigeration.

SWIMMING

• Most camps will swim.

Please look for the following symbol which designates a camp that includes swimming:

If your child is registered for a camp that includes swimming, please send a swimsuit and towel with them to camp.

PRESCHOOL CAMP All preschool campers will be participating in age-appropriate gross motor games and activities that are created to reinforce our weekly themes. Campers will also have the opportunity to practice fine motor skills through different art experiences by using a wide variety of resources and materials.

Preschool camps that include swimming will be designated by this swimming symbol: The Southeast Y has added Scouts to the Preschool Camp roster for those who want a camp experience but only need half-day care and only want to swim twice a week.

CAMP ARROWHEAD Camp Arrowhead may look like it’s all fun and games, but it’s so much more! Campers are making new friends, learning how to be a part of a group, practicing teamwork, and enjoying new, “unplugged” experiences in the natural world. Into the Wild is a long-standing YMCA program that promotes independence and collaboration as young teens learn basic mastery skills in nature, such as plant identification and basic survival skills. All activities are supervised by accomplished staff and demonstrated in our designated camp areas that only participants in this specific group are allowed in.

Join Challengers, our teen camp that meets at our Northwest Y every week and meets at our Southeast Y during the weeks when Into the Wild, our other teen option, is not offered. In Challengers, teens will have fun with friends as they build relationships, participate in team-building activities, and work together on small group projects that focus on having a positive impact on our camp and community. Each day is filled with music, laughter, and fun!

Campers will feel as though they have traveled back a long time ago to a galaxy far, far away as they hunt for Yoda in a Star Wars scavenger hunt and so much more!

BACK ALLEY BOWLING ages 8-13

Campers will learn the fundamentals of bowling while getting the ultimate Indiana University experience!

Pick-up and drop-off is at the Back Alley in the IU Memorial Union. Campers will bowl in the morning and then spend the afternoon touring various buildings and landmarks around IU, including athletic complexes!

ENERGIZE Your Summer is a fun and educational summer camp based off of the popular in-school program.

Campers will get moving in high-energy games to get their blood pumping and their minds thinking. A visit from a certified dietitian and a field trip to a local grocery store will challenge campers to plan and shop for healthy meals they can practice making at camp.

SPORTS CAMPS Sports camps, available at both the Southeast and Northwest YMCA, offer specialized youth sports training and are designed to teach sports skills, fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship while reinforcing the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Sports Camp Information • Southeast camps are for campers ages 6-14.

• Northwest camps are for campers ages 6-13.

• Sports camps offer morning and afternoon camps. Morning camps meet 9:00 am-12:00 pm.

Afternoon camps meet 1:00-4:00 pm. Campers signed up for both AM and PM camps may stay for a supervised lunch.

• Camp listings will have dates for Southeast and Northwest if both Ys offer the camp.

Each day of camp will start with one hour of high-intensity drills and skill work before breaking into teams for games. Games of 5v5 and 3v3 will be played, along with Free Throw contests, Beat the Buzzer, and Basketball Obstacle Courses.

From skills to rules, campers will have the opportunity to improve their tennis game or learn something new. Visits to tennis courts are included in the week.

Campers will work on new and different elements of fitness throughout the week, and they will also receive tips for workouts and proper instruction for fitness equipment.

Set, bump, spike! Volleyball Camp will give campers opportunities to work on various skills of volleyball in a non-competitive, relaxed environment.

Before putting their skills to the test at Taylor’s Par 3, campers will get a chance to learn the game by practicing various skills including shots, golf etiquette, and putting on the YMCA Mini Golf Course.

Campers will have a chance to try it all in this camp located at The Warehouse! From rock climbing and pool to trampolines and more, this camp will introduce your child to new activities.

SPORTS CAMPS ADVANCED DODGEBALL ages 10-14

This camp is for those campers who are interested in serious dodgeball. Our older campers will have the opportunity to let loose without worrying about running into younger campers. We’ll play daily tournaments and high-stakes “Counselors vs.. Campers” challenges.

SPEED & STRENGTH CAMP ages 6-14

Campers will practice techniques in strength, linear speed, and nutrition. Campers should wear clothes that they can move freely in (shorts, t-shirt, closed toe shoes).

Light the torch, it’s time for YMCA Sports Olympics!

Campers will be divided into countries to compete in their very own Olympic games, along with other themed activities.

FIELD SPORTS

Fields Sports Camp will get your child moving and guarantee fun with their favorite field sports, including the ever popular kickball! Campers will be divided into age groups.

From 6:00-10:00 pm on the two summer nights listed below, campers will have the opportunity to do special activities outside of camp hours. Several hours will be spent in Cardinal Court with the lights out playing glow-in-the-dark dodgeball and NERF. Pizza will also be provided!

GYMNASTICS CAMPS

at the Monroe County YMCA Gymnastics Center 1917 S. Highland Avenue From tumbling to gymnastics, the Y provides programs that build poise, confidence, and discipline while never losing sight of fun! Our camps focus on teaching individual skills, developing well-rounded fundamentals, and making new friends.

Campers ages 5-12 Prior experience is not necessary. Camp staff will assess each camper’s ability and divide campers into group based on skill level, desire to learn, and age.

Campers can expect to practice gymnastics skills, shapes, drills, and enjoy camp games, swimming, and crafts.

FREE morning Extended Day at the Gymnastics Center.

PM Extended Day for a fee at the Gymnastics Center. Campers not picked up by 4:15 pm will be automatically enrolled into PM Extended Day, and your account will be billed.

Campers enrolled in Gymnastics Camp must be completely self-reliant in all restroom needs. If your child requires assistance in the restroom, a caregiver will be required to stay on site.

GYMNASTICS CAMPS This summer will be a throw-back to our original gymnastics camps! We are so excited to have camp staff this summer who were campers in our original camps and who are looking forward to helping us bring the excitement and fun of those first camp days back again.

Full-day campers will swim daily. Half-day campers will not because it will take quite a bit of time in the morning for this activity.
