Dear campers and parents, Thank you for allowing your child to share their summer with the Monroe County YMCA! Summer Camp is so much more than fun in the sun. At the Y, we provide a fun and safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, make lasting friends, and more.

Our counselors are wonderful role models, selected based on their experience, attitude, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm. They genuinely care about the individual development of each camper and help their campers learn how to live and work together as a community.

All staff are CPR and First Aid certified and trained in risk management, child abuse prevention, behavior management, character development, and team building.

We are excited to see so many returning faces and ready to welcome and embrace the newcomers to Summer Camp at the Monroe County YMCA. FAST FACTS AM EXTENDED DAY Offered at no additional cost with your Camp Arrowhead registration!

• Available for campers age four and up who are enrolled in a morning/all-day camp.

EARLY BIRD RATE

• Sign up by May 1 and receive a discount for each week you register.

WHAT TO KNOW

Most campers spend their day outside. The following information will let parents know how to best prepare their camper for a great day.

• Children must wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

• No sandals or flip flops.

• Sunscreen should be applied before camp and will be applied every two hours throughout the day.

• Please send your camper with a labeled water bottle and a lunch that does not need refrigeration.

SWIMMING • Most camps will swim.

Please look for the following symbol which designates a camp that includes swimming.

If your child is registered for a camp that includes swimming, please send a swimsuit and towel with them to camp.

PRESCHOOL CAMP All preschool campers will be participating in age-appropriate gross motor games and activities that are created to reinforce our weekly themes. Campers will also have the opportunity to practice fine motor skills through different art experiences using a wide variety of resources and materials.

Preschool camps that include swimming will be designated by this swimming symbol.

NEW for 2018, expanded preschool camp options! The Northwest YMCA has added Little Leaders this year as well as half-day and single-day camp options.

The Southeast Y has added Scouts to the preschool camp roster for those campers and parents who want a camp experience that does not include swimming.

CAMP ARROWHEAD Children at play in Camp Arrowhead may look like it’s all fun and games, but it’s so much more!

Campers are making new friends, learning how to be a part of a group, practicing teamwork, and enjoying new experiences being “unplugged” in the natural world. Each week of camp will have a unique theme with corresponding games, activities, and crafts. Campers can look forward to enjoying something new every week. Our leader of this program, Aaron Shell, will be taking this summer off for paternity leave, but we expect him back in 2019! He will be corresponding with staff as we prepare for camp so we can continue to provide an enriching and rewarding experience through challenging outdoor tasks, games, and projects.

We believe that leadership is best learned by doing, and camp is one of the best environments to teach through experiential learning. Monroe County YMCA is in its second year of implementing the YMCA of the USA’s Teen Leadership Training Program to grow and train great leaders in our community!

NEW & SPECIALTY CAMPS YMCA Specialty Camps provide campers the opportunity to explore their creative side, build on emerging skills, and connect with other campers who have shared interests.

A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY age 6-12

Just as any young Jedi must learn to balance the Force your camper will enjoy a balance of Star Wars themed fun and traditional camp activities such as swimming and crafts.

Campers will feel as though they have traveled back a long time ago to a galaxy far, far away as they hunt for Yoda in a Star Wars scavenger hunt and so much more!

BACK ALLEY BOWLING age 8-13

Campers will learn the fundamentals of bowling while getting the ultimate Indiana University experience!

ENERGIZE Your Summer is a fun and educational summer camp based off of the popular in-school program.

Campers will get moving in high-energy games to get their blood pumping and their minds thinking. Field trips to local grocery stores will challenge campers to plan and shop for healthy meals they can practice making at camp.

More importantly, with a mix of inside and outside activities, ENERGIZE Your Summer is just a whole lot of fun!

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8+ to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

SPORTS CAMPS Sports camps, available at both the Southeast and Northwest YMCA, offer specialized youth sports training and are designed to teach sports skills, fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship while reinforcing the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

• Northwest camps are for campers age 6-13.

• Sports camps offer morning and afternoon camps. Morning camps meet 9:00am-12:00pm.

GYMNASTICS CAMPS at the Monroe County YMCA Gymnastics Center 1917 S. Highland Avenue From tumbling to gymnastics, the Y provides programs that build poise, confidence, and discipline while never losing sight of fun! Our camps focus on teaching individual skills, developing well-rounded fundamentals, and making new friends.

Gymnastics Camp Information • Camps are for children age 5-14.

• Gymnastics Camp is for all skills, levels, and abilities.

• Prior experience is not needed, camp staff will assess each campers ability and divide campers into groups based on skill level and desire to practice.

• Campers can expect to practice gymnastics skills, shapes, drills, and also enjoy camp games and crafts.

• Gymnastics Camp offers morning Extended Day through the Southeast YMCA. All campers may register for Extended Day at the Southeast YMCA, and Gymnastics Camp staff will walk them up to the Gymnastics Center before camp begins. At the end of camp, Gymnastics Camp staff will walk campers down to the Southeast YMCA who are registered for afternoon Extended Day.

• Gymnastics Camp offers afternoon Extended Day at the Gymnastics Center.

Campers who are not picked up by 4:15pm will automatically be enrolled in our aftercare program and your account billed.

• Campers enrolled in Gymnastics Camp must be completely self-reliant in all restroom needs. If your child requires assistance in the restroom a caregiver will be required to stay on site.

Gymnastics Camp Options • FULL-DAY OPTION Time: 9:00am-4:00pm Cost: $125/$160 if registered by May 1 $140/$175 if registered after May 1

• HALF-DAY OPTION Time: 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00-4:00pm Cost: $68/$110 if registered by May 1 $78/$120 if registered after May 1

• SINGLE-DAY OPTION Single-day options are back for 2018! Find more details below and on MonroeCountyYMCA.org.

Cost: $30/$37 Full-day $16/$20 Half-day

This camp is for students who want to build on the fundamental tumbling skills such as handstands and cartwheels.

EVEN MORE SUMMER FUN! Y CAMP WITH THE INDIANA FEVER age 7-12

Available to any camper enrolled in an all-day camp at the Y, come cheer on the Indianapolis Fever team vs. Minnesota on July 11 during their Kids Day. We’ll meet at Northwest Y and bus campers up to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in time for tipoff at 12:00 pm.

OVERNIGHTS AT THE Y age 7-12

Ready to expand your camp experience? Join us throughout the summer for overnights at the Northwest Y! We’ll swim, play laser tag, and end with a movie. Available to any camper enrolled in an all-day camp at the Y.

LOCATION: NORTHWEST YMCA Overnight Dates: June 7 June 21 July 5 July 19 August 2 TIME: 6:00pm-8:00am Cost: $50/$75 per overnight
