Can you believe we actually get to live, work, worship, and play here? I honestly could not be more proud of our community! I have always been proud to say I’m “from here” and “stayed here,” but never to this degree. It’s not just the Chamber or the City or the Parish or the businesses or our churches, schools, family, friends, and neighbors; it's the sum of all these.
We are blessed with so many quality individuals who are do-ers and not just talkers. Please allow me to thank each of you for what you mean to this community. Every single Chamber member, business owner, and employee is due a sincere “thanks” for what you do each day. Please allow me to offer a personal thanks to the Chamber staff, Roy, Daphne, Mike, Terri, and Ashley, for the depth and quality of their work and their team approach to their jobs. Our Chamber board and committee members, along with event speakers, task force members, Ambassadors, Leadership Ouachita members, and so many more volunteers, are real workhorses for the quadruplex of Monroe, West Monroe, Sterlington, and Richwood. We are blessed with visionary mayors, caring police jurors and council members, and tireless and accessible legislative and congressional delegations. Everywhere you look, you will find helpers, servants, and leaders.
As you look through this publication, you will see that a huge amount of work was done this year, and several milestone accomplishments were made. What’s more amazing is that these are just highlights. Wow!
This is truly a time of community, of working together, of breaking down silos, of renewed pride and of real progress. Your Monroe Chamber boasts over 1,200 members representing tens of thousands of employees and families. Just imagine the power of those resources all pulling in the same direction and telling the story of all that is good here in Northeast Louisiana.

An Unapologetic Love for this Community: IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN MONROE
Coretta Scott King once said, "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its Members." We believe the same can be said for a chamber. WOW, Mrs. King just defined The Monroe Chamber of Commerce! Mrs. King just defined Monroe, Mrs. King just defined Ouachita Parish, and Mrs. King just defined Northeast Louisiana. Every day, this Chamber and this community grow stronger and stronger in their unapologetic love for our area and for our actions.
2024 has been quite a year, and the good news is that we are just getting started. The year started with two major events. The first was the Economic Luncheon at the Washington DC Mardi Gras. In the fall of 2023, Senator John Kennedy's office called our office and extended an invitation to The Monroe Chamber of Commerce to co-host with The St. Tammany Parish Chamber of Commerce at the 2024 Economic Luncheon. This was a huge honor and a huge compliment to the Chamber and to the city of Monroe. Thanks to the hard work of Daphne Garrett, who organized the luncheon working with The Washington Hilton, and DC event planner Jonathan Willen along with Lacey Osborne (St. Tammany Chamber), they added almost 200 seats and set the stage for the largest and best luncheon ever. Terri Arthur managed all of the funds, and our own event star, Mike Downhour, worked the interviews and speakers from the floor. Special thanks to our local sponsors, EPC, Drax, Ochsner's, Amazon, and b-1 Bank. The results were outstanding. A big win statewide for The Monroe Chamber and for our sponsors. All proceeds raised from the luncheon go to the Chairperson’s (Senator Kennedy) Charity of Choice. We raised over $182,000 for the Louisiana Boys and Girls Clubs. We presented a check to Senator Kennedy and The Boys and Girls Club in April at his legislative luncheon. Supporting our DC efforts, we also hosted a "318 Night" at the Vagabond Restaurant. Joined by The City of Monroe and our University of Louisiana Monroe, we celebrated our great community with over 125 guests in attendance.
The second major event of the year was the launching of our Leaders of Change campaign. As the headline reads - we have an unapologetic love for our area. The Chamber is joined by eight local businesses (Origin Bank, EPC, NELA MAC, Mid-South Extrusion, Entergy, Heard McElroy & Vestal, St. Francis Health, and Holyfield Construction) that share our unapologetic love for our community. Together, we launched a yearlong multimedia campaign using traditional, social, and digital media. The campaign's foundation is a 10 x 20-foot wall mural at The Monroe Regional Airport, which shows that it is a beautiful day throughout our region. Our goal is to remind people we are our story, our own story, and we need to celebrate ourselves.

Those two events set the stage for a great ride in 2024. In February, we welcomed our 2024 Leadership Ouachita Class. 42 amazing professionals who are absorbing every bit of knowledge about our city and chomping to change our community. Daphne Garrett has done an amazing job building a yearlong program with over 600 alumni in our area. March brought our annual banquet to the Monroe Civic Center. A fast-paced evening where we heard from Amazon’s Jessica Breaux and saw two community champions (Roma Kidd and William Smart) honored for their years of service to our community. We didn't slow down in April with two legislative lunches and our annual LABI lunch, during which the community met Will Green, the new president of that organization. It's not often you can host back-to-back lunches for two highly popular elected officials. Both of the officials happen to be champions of our area. That is exactly what happened when Senator Kennedy came on Monday, April 22nd, and our good friend Congresswoman Julia Letlow came on April 23rd. Two weeks later, we headed to Baton Rouge for a tremendous Northern Exposure. Then, we had three more major events. The first is we hired Ashley Dowling to join Mike Downhour in Membership. Ashley is a true and total pro who is taking our membership efforts to the next level. The next two major events go hand in hand. Simultaneously, we launched the Richwood and Sterlington Business Alliances. Both of these organizations are laser-focused on lifting up their respective business communities and complement what we are doing at the Monroe Chamber. With the help of Christina Davis, we have held training and info meetings, lunch and learns, and monthly coffee and conversations. We wrapped up the spring honoring local businesses with our annual T.H. Scott Awards.
There was down over the summer as we hosted our Northeast state delegation for an update luncheon, hosted Mayors Ellis, Brown, Talbert, and Shane Smiley for the state of local government, had A great Senator Cassidy breakfast, and then celebrated our Top 20 Under 40 with over 70 nominees. WOW, what an amazing group of emerging leaders we have. The icing of the summer was the first time Governor Jeff Landry visited. We packed almost 550 people in Bayou Pointe on the Beautiful ULM Campus to welcome and meet our new Governor.
September saw our Annual Golf Tournament at Frenchman’s Bend, The Greenqube Treasure Hunt, our annual Cyber & Technology Summit, and a new event called the State of Education featuring our superintendents and higher education presidents. No year is complete without Terri Arthur and Team GALA hosting our Holiday GALA and Auction. WOW, what a night it was. We danced the night away to the music of Robert Wright and celebrated the Chamber and Community, all the while kicking off the holiday season. A special shout-out to our committee chairs this year - they did an amazing job. The Monroe Chamber is unapologetic about who we are and will not let anyone position us into something we are not. We take ownership of our story and believe someone must take the lead in celebrating it. That’s why we’ve enlisted our Leaders of Change as catalysts, spreading our message throughout our community and beyond and inspiring us to take pride in ourselves and our work. These Change
Agents are active, enthusiastic, and ready to share why every day is a BEAUTIFUL day in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, and the rest of Northeast Louisiana.

Our theme was simple - "It's a BEAUTIFUL Day" in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, and all over Northeast Louisiana. We’ve used Bayou Life, The Ouachita Citizen, KTVE/KARD, The Radio People, Stephens Media, KEDM, Outdoor, Social Media & Digital, our newsletter, launched The Monroe Chamber Happy Hour, created a series of short videos and podcast celebrating the people that make our community great and rolled out the crown of the campaign our "Airport Wall Mural." Because of the success we have had, the Leaders of Change will continue throughout 2025 with Kinetix and Drax joining the group.

We believe that we have a responsibility to positively influence all aspects of our community. By being actively involved in everything from non-profits to technology to education and workforce we are doing just that. Our members have an expectation that we are their advocates. We are their champions in building community pride and bolstering any part of the community that will influence their business. Anything that we can do to make a better environment for business to do business we will do. Below are 11 areas the chamber has focused on. Each committee has a specific goal, and each committee is made up by chamber members and community volunteers dedicated to our success. One thing you will notice is the Chamber and our committees are going beyond the boundaries of The Chamber, recognizing that in order to be completely successful we have to be part of a bigger Northeast Louisiana Global picture. These committees and topics are just the beginning as there are other areas that need our support.
MEMBERSHIP
GOAL: The Monroe Chamber will maintain and grow our role as the advocate for all business and our members.
Our membership is our backbone and our foundation. We are a member driven organization. After a hugely successful membership drive in 2023, we rolled in 2024 with a goal of retention, growth and member support. In April we had a mini version of our 2023 membership event netting 100 new members and adding countless renewals. In May of 2024 we bolstered our membership team by adding Ashley Dowling. Ashley has brought expertise, energy and enthusiasm to our membership. Mike Downhour compliments her efforts and together they make a dynamic duo. Among the projects in 2024 has been cleaning up our data base making sure our data is current and up to date. This is a critical effort ensuring we are able to communicate and touch each member. Mike, with the help of Josh Carroll, has completely revamped our Ambassador program. He also has promoted every member through social media. With Ashley’s help we are touching every member, surveying members for needs, holding small business workshops, launched new networking events (Monroe Mingle and Chamber 101), and growing others like Coffee & Conversation. Daphne Garrett and Ashley Dowling continue to grow our Young Professionals and Leadership Ouachita. Finally, continue to look for more and more Ribbon Cuttings which is our way to celebrate our businesses and business community. As we wrap up 2024 and roll into 2025 we will continue to focus on our total membership including identifying employee counts for each member, grouping those members and creating round tables for each.

SMALL BUSINESS
GOAL:
The Monroe Chamber will identify small business needs and work with area providers on bringing additional support and benefit to those businesses. We also where possible promote individual businesses.
Small Business is the backbone of the chamber. Each small business Chamber member faces unique challenges. The Chamber works hard to promote our small businesses and to find ways to help them grow. Each month we host a fun networking and informational event called Coffee & Conversation at Tower Place. Local businesses get a chance to network, learn about our community and to have fun. Led by Mike Downhour and Ashley Dowling, The Chamber is reaching out to each member (in-person, by email and phone) to update their data and survey their needs. How can we help them. Each member is promoted on social media and during the Christmas holidays we run a shop local campaign. Every Thursday we use social media to promote member restaurants and encourage people to enjoy the greatest food in the universe. Additionally, in September we helped Discover Monroe-West Monroe promote local restaurants during their restaurant week. In October we held our third annual Cyber Security and Technology Summit. The Chamber works with the City of Monroe to promote small business and we use our newsletter and social media to celebrate our members. We also have representatives on the SEDD and DEDD boards. Our biggest celebration of small business is our T.H. Scott Awards which celebrate new business or business expansion. Read more about our T.H. Scott Banquet & Awards in a separate article in this publication.
In the summer we launched The Richwood Business Alliance and the Sterlington Business Alliance. These efforts complement the work being done with our Monroe Based merchants. Our Board member Christina Davis coordinates speakers each month to help those businesses with things like financial literacy, marketing and succession planning. In addition, we also host a Coffee & Conversation in both towns.
DIVERSITY
GOAL:
The Chamber will take a lead role in being inclusive to all parts of our city, parish and region while being the leading voice for diversity.
Monroe and Ouachita Parish is a unique and diverse community. To quote Larry Bell, WE ARE MONROE, a Gourmet Gumbo! The Monroe Chamber of Commerce believes that the diversity of our community is our greatest strength. Our Diversity Committee is very active and meets monthly. Our Diversity Committee celebrates the special people who call this home. We believe our uniqueness is what makes us strong and celebrating our diversity is good business. In 2023 we hosted 3 lunches that were free to chamber members on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. These lunches were sponsored by our friends at Chase. Darian Atkins, Louisiana Delta Community College, led all three discussions. The lunches were so successful our committee decided to keep the momentum going. In 2024, Lamont Windom led a series of lunch n learn’s focusing on the workplace. Topics included “Is your hiring process broke” and Workplace culture. Lamont led his lunch audiences with pertinent information and allowed interaction which made the topic true and personal. At our last lunch of the year we also included the “Pair with Me Awards’. Kirsten Gladen co-hosted the lunch and we honored 10 businesses that hire disabled workers. Once again our lunches were made possible by a generous gift from Chase.
GOVERNMENT ADVOCACY
GOAL: The Chamber will maintain and grow our role as the chief advocate, voice, and watchdog for local business on governmental matters.
The Monroe Chamber believes it is critical that our business community has an ongoing and open dialogue with our elected officials, educators and all taxing bodies. We also believe with a declining local media presence we have an obligation to ramp up our engagement efforts. Under the leadership of Amanda Edge our GAC rolled out a new set of Operating Procedures. Content includes mission statement, group composition, policy platform, legislative position authority, public policy criteria and procedure, who voting members are, conflict of interest, among other things. In addition, our GAC will include members of the WMWO Chamber GAC. Under the GAC we also hosted numerous legislative and local elected official lunches. This year included Governor Landry, Congresswoman Letlow, Senator Kennedy, Senator Cassidy, our local state delegation, Mayor Ellis, Shane Smiley, Mayor Talbert and Mayor Brown. Earlier in the year we partnered with our Education Committee to interview both school superintendents on accountability and hosted a lunch with BESE Board member Lance Harris. Our GAC also met with Mayor Ellis on the Capital Infrastructure Tax Renewal and Toni Bacon & Kevin Crosby, with the Ouachita Parish Police Jury met with us on their Spring Tax Renewal for Green Oaks and the Library’s. One of the big projects for 2025 will be expanding our Northern Exposure efforts.

TECHNOLOGY
GOAL:
The Chamber will maintain and grow our role as the chief business advocate by being a champion for the advancement of technology to both home and commercial. Technology influences our businesses, our schools, our healthcare and almost every aspect of our lives. The Chamber recognizes that broadband technology constantly evolves, and that speed, capacity and affordability are key consumer issues in respect to subscribership.
Technology is our future. The Monroe Chamber of Commerce understands the ever-changing world of technology and how important it will be to our future growth. Every business, whether a major manufacturer or a small business, will be impacted by technology. We believe helping our members better understand and better use Technology goes a long way in fulfilling our mission. Our Technology committee meets monthly and supports our other committees. Their two main projects include an Annual Cyber Security and Technology Summit and a Social Media Workshop. The Cyber Security and Technology Summit is an all-day event free to chamber members where we bring in experts to discuss latest trends and show our members how they can better protect themselves against costly cyber-attacks. Our Social Media Workshop, powered by our marketing partners Kinetix, was held for Monroe Chamber members as well as the Richwood and Sterlington Business Alliance. Greenqube, their owners chair this committee, also provide “Tech Tips” each week in our newsletter.
NON-PROFITS
GOAL:
The Monroe Chamber will work with area nonprofits to raise them up to help others in our community. The Chamber realizes our business community will only be as strong as our weakest and it is incumbent on us to work with area nonprofits to raise them up.
The Monroe Chamber believes there is a special and unique tie between the business community and our area non-profit’s. After a successful 2023 that included accessing non-profit needs and a grant writing workshop our non-profit committee will be partnering with The United Way of Northeast Louisiana in a new Capacity Building training program for non-profit organizations.
This program will be piloted in Ouachita Parish. The goal of this program is to strengthen the skills and resources of local nonprofits by offering tailored training and guidance. It will be divided into two tracks—one for beginners and one for more experienced organizations—featuring monthly 2-hour sessions with additional homework. The program was launched in late Fall and will provide ongoing support to help nonprofits grow and succeed. WORKFORCE
GOAL:
The Chamber will maintain and grow our role as the facilitator and champion of our workforce in our region. We will work with local business, education, and other partners to recruit, grow, and retain talent.
The Monroe Chamber believes that workforce is the number one issue facing our community. We have a combined Workforce and Education Committee that meets monthly. In 2023 we engaged C3 Consulting to help unify the community’s efforts in workforce. The evolution of Workforce continued in 2024. Our chair, Matt Dickerson, has become the workforce champion for Northeast Louisiana. Matt joined Secretary of Louisiana Workforce Commission, Susie Schowen’s statewide task force on workforce. Under Matt’s leadership The Chamber continues to bring area partners together to identify the needs of each partner and the job seeker. One of our biggest successes in 2024 has been to bring our K-12 partners to the table with business and higher ed. Another success is the work being done to launch more sector partnerships like NELA MAC and The Northeast Louisiana Healthcare Alliance. Led by Nathan Hall, the Chamber also was a sponsor for Manufacturing Day, held in October and saw over 250 High School students come through.

EDUCATION
GOAL:
The Chamber will continue to support all ages of education (birth through continuing ed).
Education is the foundation for a trained workforce and quality of life. The Monroe Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee focuses on supporting both of our school systems, our higher ed institutions and our different segment partners. By merging the education committee with the workforce committee we are able to understand goals and challenges of each group while collaborating to grow and solve both. Ultimately we all understand that education is our future and an educated workforce is a must in today’s growing challenges. One of our big successes last year involved STEM education and The Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum. To complement their efforts providing STEM training to all of the 3rd graders in Monroe City Schools, The Monroe Chamber through the Monroe Chamber Foundation funded the same effort for Ouachita Parish 3rd graders. STEM is a must as we prepare tomorrow’s workers.
HEALTHCARE
GOALS:
1. Contact and add local experts from the Health Insurance and Mental Health fields to our committee. This will address the two areas from the 2022 Health Survey. We also agreed that we would like to acknowledge and focus on our Maternal Health crisis as well as the issue of quality Childcare services.
2. Collaborate with other Chamber committees, such as Government, Workforce and Technology Committees, to exchange information concerning local and state Healthcare topics. We plan to launch a project using agreed upon positive meta data for our city and the region. We hope to engage the Chamber membership in this project while improving Monroe and this region’s SEO. This will positively affect the Health and Wellness industry as well as all others.
3. Create an updated Health Survey seeking input concerning healthcare and wellness gaps that the business community should be aware of and possibly tackle. This feedback will also guide our committee moving forward, giving us insight into future actions.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
GOAL:
Our Health Committee, led by Shelva Thomas, is laser focused on the above goals. Our committee expanded now including professionals in Health and Mental Health fields. In the spring of 2024 our Health Committee engaged our marketing partners, Kinetix, to launch two projects. The first is a survey to assess the health of our community so we can build a strategy to address. We first surveyed membership twice and then opened the survey to the market. As we tabulate results we will formulate next step strategies. Second, we addressed a market challenge involving community perception or how others think of us. It is an unspoken challenge that impacts our market through google searches about Monroe, Louisiana. Especially in the Health segment. We launched a SEO campaign and a positive press release effort that will push positive words and stories up to the top of digital searches on our area. This is an going effort and will continue through 2025 as we include more market partners.

Our Community Engagement committee is working side by side with our Leaders of Change. In 2024 we engaged High Tide Rise to create a series of podcast and videos that celebrate the people and things that make our community unique and tell our story. Located in Southern Ouachita Parish, Richwood, Louisiana is an emerging community with excited residents and excited businesses about their future. In the Spring of 2024, the Town of Richwood, led by Mayor Gerald Brown, partnered with The Monroe Chamber of Commerce to form the Richwood Business Alliance.
The Richwood Business Alliance was created to celebrate and grow businesses in the Town of Richwood. The Alliance helps Richwood citizens and businesses discover and connect with local Richwood businesses. The Alliance’s mission is to promote and support the businesses that make Richwood unique.
Throughout 2024, The Richwood Business Alliance has held monthly Coffee &
Conversations, ribbon cuttings, and a series of Lunch and Learn meetings. The Coffee & Conversations are a great way to network while our Lunch and Learns have seen sessions on Best Business Practices, Business and Professional Etiquette, Legal Practices, Small Business Tax strategies, Financial Literacy, Keep Richwood & Ouachita Parish Beautiful, and Social Savvy. Government Events: Our Government lunches and events include local, state, and federal elected officials. Our State of Local Government speakers included Mayor Friday Ellis (Monroe), Mayor Matt Talbert (Sterlington), Mayor Gerald Brown (Richwood), and Shane Smiley (Ouachita Parish Police Jury). We heard from most of our Northeast Louisiana Delegation immediately after the session ended from the state. Speakers included Senators Morris, Cathey, and Womack, while Representatives speaking included Echols, Moore, Thompson, and Fisher. Also, Governor Jeff Landry made his first trip to a Monroe Chamber of Commerce luncheon. The Governor spoke to over 550 people at Bayou Pointe on the ULM campus. All 3 of our Federal delegations spoke this past year. Senator Kennedy and Congresswoman Letlow came on back-to-back days in April, and Senator Cassidy came in August.
Education: In early November, we held our first "State of Local Education' luncheon. Your Chamber and Community have worked very hard to nurture the K-12 and Higher Ed relationships. Speakers included Sam Moore (Monroe City Schools), Todd Guice (Ouachita Parish Schools), Dr. Ron Berry (ULM), Dr. Carrie Baker Royer (VCOM), and Dr. Randy Esters (LDCC).
Economic Development: LABI's new president, Will Green, came in April to update us on LABI and to lay out a new strategic plan and vision.

In January of 2023, The Monroe Chamber, powered by over 200 volunteers, conducted a two-day Membership Drive that saw over 360 new and upgraded members. In 2024, our focus was to increase member value and retain our members. In April, we held a one-day member event focused on retention. We had numerous teams, including Amanda Edge's infamous "Pink Team." Carrie Kennedy brought in Team Origin along with Jeremy Harrell and Ivan Hendricks from Team Green & Gold, plus help from Rickey Robertson, Paul West, Meg Keene, Brooke Bernal, and the fantastic team led by Jay Curtis at KEDM. The White team was led by Ambassadors Shelley Odom, DJ Fortenberry, and Josh Carroll. It was a great day seeing over 100 members renew. In May, we hired Ashley Dowling to head up our Membership, working in conjunction with Mike Downhour. Ashley's Membership energy and passion have led the Chamber’s membership efforts to new levels. Since Ashley's arrival, she has launched Chamber 101, Monroe Mingle, created a special real estate package, launched a jobs board on our website, and worked extensively to update our database.

Some sessions are professional development & help, and others are informational, where Mayor Friday Ellis gives us updates on the great things happening in Monroe. We start every session with high fives, hugs, and other greetings, reminding each other that it is a BEAUTIFUL Day in Monroe, Louisiana. Thursday, November 7th, forty two Leaderhsip Ouachita participants graduated from the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Council’s 2024 Leadership Ouachita program at the Hub in Downtown Monroe. This was the Leadership program's 36th graduating class.
The purpose of Leadership Ouachita is to develop and empower the emerging leaders of Northeast Louisiana to transform the region into a place recognized as one of the best places to live and do business. Class members engage in a series of sessions focused on education and workforce development, economic development, and infrastructure. They also join other business leaders from North Louisiana on the annual Northern Exposure trip in May. Most participants will tell you they found out things about Monroe they never knew.

During the graduation ceremony, Amanda Edge, with Entergy, was named the 34th Annual James M. Shipp, Jr. Memorial Young Business Leader of the Year. This prestigious award is presented annually to a young man or woman in Ouachita Parish who has displayed outstanding leadership and service. The award was named in honor of James M. Shipp, Jr. Jim was the IMC general manager who was tragically killed during the explosion at the IMC plant in Sterlington in 1991. He was a Monroe Chamber board member and an active leader in the community.

Thomas H. Scott Awards
HONORING
COMPANIES MAKING SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE OUACHITA PARISH ECONOMY
Thomas H. Scott Awards of Excellence Reception was held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the University of Louisiana's Bayou Pointe Center. There were 47 nominations for the prestigious awards, which honor companies making significant contributions to the Ouachita Parish economy through capital improvements, expansion, job creation, and community involvement during 2023/2024. This year's nominees collectively created or retained 4,320 jobs in Ouachita Parish and made capital investments of over $112 million. The Award is named after Thomas H. Scott, a Monroe Business icon and legend. The highlight of this year’s awards was a special appearance and talk from Betty Cummins, Mr. Scott’s 85-year-old Daughter.
The Small Business winner was Coney Island Connection. In 2022, Coney Island Connection was a newly renovated restaurant located on North 7th Street in West Monroe. Owner Chris Lewis took over after the previous owner retired and has kept the tradition of good old-fashioned food alive since 2019. In 2023, he doubled the size of his store to serve more customers and added new employees. Chris is very philanthropic in the community, gives away food and school scholarships, and spends time daily investing in others.
The Medium Business winner was Pinnacle Health. CEO Mark Windham and Pinnacle Family Health stands as a beacon of comprehensive care and community support in Northeast Louisiana. They strive to offer an inclusive environment and welcome individuals from all walks of life. Serving patients at the starting age of 3, they ensure every person has an opportunity to have access to affordable healthcare, regardless of their family's income. In the recent surge of growth, Pinnacle Family Health has taken a leap from a 6,000-square-foot facility to a 24,000-square-foot state-of-the-art health
center. This $6 million investment significantly enhanced their medical and behavioral health services. With this bigger space, they were able to add an onsite pharmacy, onsite dental care, and onsite x-rays, making Pinnacle Family Health a one-stop shop for healthcare needs.
The Large Business winner was Commercial Capital Bank. Commercial Capital Bank emerges as a true community bank. They have offered a personalized service since their first establishment in Delhi in 1999. They have expanded their original roots into Bastrop, Oak Grove, Crossett, Hamburg, and now the newly renovated location on North 18th Street in Monroe. Their expansion into Monroe was not only a business move but a commitment to revitalization. They completely transformed the forgotten-about corner into a beautiful hub for economic activity. This contribution shows they are dedicated to the city's growth and the people's livelihoods.
The Corporate Business winner was St. Francis Health. St. Francis is the heart and soul of healthcare in Northeast Louisiana and southern Arkansas. St. Francis offers Northeast Louisiana's only Level 3 NICU, Level 3 OB, and Level 2 PICU services. This organization has not only exemplified excellence in healthcare but also made significant contributions to the well-being of our community. They have added 260 jobs, made over $55 million in capital investments, and saw an increase in volume across all areas. St. Francis has been the cornerstone of healthcare in Ouachita Parish since its establishment in 1913.
The Nonprofit winner was ARCO. Founded by Ike and Shirley Hamilton, ARCO has been empowering people with developmental disabilities to live quality, meaningful lives and to reach their full potential for independence since 1954. ARCO is dedicated to creating communities where children and
families thrive. They invested in and recently relocated their administrative offices to Mercedes Drive in Monroe, LA, providing the nonprofit agency with a home of solidarity and functionality that will last for many decades. Executive Director Roma Kidd has led ARCO to new heights during her tenure, enhancing the value of this 70-year-old volunteer-led organization.

The BayouLife Magazine Innovator Award was presented to The Trove. The Trove is a shop with a curated collection of artistic treasures from diverse vendors. The Trove was dreamed up to be a space for art & retail and to reinvest in growth and development of our communities. It is locally owned and operated on Tower Drive in Monroe, LA. by Emily Ackerman and Lisa Holyfield.
The Spirit of Business First Award was presented to b1BANK. Anytime a new business invests in an all-new location, much planning, preparation and investment along with blood, sweat, and tears goes into the process. This business did all that and is serving our community at a high level from their new Tower Drive location. In case you didn't know, the "b1" in b1BANK stands for Business First, and they are this year's recipient of the Spirit of Business First Award.
The Spirit of Community Care Award was presented to Northeast Imaging. A wise business sees a need in the community and works to meet that need. Our area had a need for a conveniently located, freestanding imaging business and there is a fast-growing one located on Lamy Lane in Monroe. Jana Elkins and Northeast Imaging have increased Northeast Imaging's MRI service by 54% in 2023 and now employ 6 full time employees. Our Spirit of Community Care award goes to Northeast Imaging.
The Spirit of Creativity Award went to SnapMe Creative. SnapMe Creative is a full-service marketing and advertising agency owned and operated locally. They purchased and renovated 311 Natchitoches St in West Monroe into a photography and graphic design studio. In 2023, they added three more full-time inhouse employees, three part-time in-house employees, 12 talented remote employees, and employed high school students throughout the year. Their outstanding creativity is shown in their videos, logo work, and through the awards their agency has won. SnapMe Creative is owned by Charles and Rebecca Frye, Josh Carroll, and Daniel Taylor.
The Spirit of Support Award was awarded to Building Futures Pediatric Therapy. Building Futures started as a dream in Ouachita Parish, offering a holistic approach to pediatric therapy in an environment that is personal and home-like. It was formed in 2005 by Jennifer Reeves and Wendy Petrus. They had exponential growth over the past years, adding speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, administrative staff, and therapy staff. They also added "Tiny Town," an incredibly small town featuring nine small buildings that help children understand how they would live in their community. The growth of the Monroe clinic led to the addition of a new Ruston clinic location. Their work with children is invaluable.
The Spirit of Stewardship Award was presented to Yarbrough Capital Advisors. This financial advising firm helps families and individuals develop their future retirements through investments, insurance, and financial planning. Andrew Yarbrough has eighteen years of financial experience and international business experience. This company has two locations; the headquarters office is located in Ouachita Parish at 2485 Tower Drive in Monroe. This company has donated to the Chennault Museum, Delta Veterans, Our HOME, The Art Crawl, Habitat for Humanity – North Louisiana and teaches financial literacy to underprivileged children.
The Spirit of Inspiration Award was presented to Lisa Govan Realty. Lisa Govan Realty is a well-established real estate agency that aims to provide excellent service to both its buyers and sellers. The owner began her business 8 years ago as a boutique firm to become a leading player in the real estate market. This realtor is truly making a difference through leadership, innovation, and dedication and is proud to be
based at her new location on Hudson Lane in Monroe.
The Spirit of Vitality Award was presented to The Salad Station. This new-to-area restaurant is a fast-casual gourmet restaurant that specializes in offering an overwhelming bounty of fresh, local products for guests to build their own gourmet meals. They recently opened their newest location on Avenue of America in Monroe and is locally owned by Brad & Ashley Surles. They have 28 full and part-time employees, and they are proud to offer a healthy dining choice to the Monroe area.
The Spirit of Endurance Award was presented to James Machine Works. This local manufacturer has been serving the petroleum, chemical, pulp paper, and energy industries since it was founded in 1927 by World War 1 veteran Hardy James. Their 2023 growth saw capital improvements, including new cranes, plate rolls, and welding machines at the cost of $1 million dollars. This company president is proud of the fact that their business has always been family-owned and has won many OSHA and Excellence awards. They employ 158 full-time employees and experience very little employee turnover. This female-run company is owned by Susan Weaver.
The Spirit of Community Service Award was presented to Origin Bank. Origin Bank offers a broad range of financial services and currently operates 60 banking centers located throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Formed in 1912, they expanded into Ouachita Parish in 1998. Through their enrichment program, employees are allowed up to 20 hours of paid time each year during work hours to volunteer for charitable organizations. During 2023, 93.8% of the Ouachita Parish employees volunteered 575 hours. Market Leader Billy Haddad and Origin Bank contributed over $75,000 to the United Way in 2023. Origin’s employees are truly EVERYWHERE volunteering in our community, and we applaud Origin Bank for allowing that kind of service from their employees.
The Chairman’s Individual Award for Excellence goes to Macaroni Kid’s Rickey Robertson. As a longtime friend of the Monroe Chamber, Rickey is caring and compassionate about all things chamber and communityrelated. His volunteering and work ethic are unmatched. No matter if the task is working on membership, Ambassadors, teaching school, coaching, or even picking up trash on the side of the road, he is faithful.
The Chairman’s Business Award for Excellence goes to Kinetix. Kinetix has volunteered for many hours helping the City of Monroe and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce staff and others in the community with projects. They exemplify growth, helping others thrive, and stepping up. They designed our beautiful new TH Scott logo, the programs, the video, and so much more to help make the awards ceremony possible. We want to honor COO Liz Pyle and her staff with this Award.
The Thomas H. Scott Award of Excellence is the final Award, and it is not given out every year. This year, the judges elected to present the Award. The winner of The Thomas H. Scott Award of Excellence is Centric Federal
Credit Union. With a remarkable growth of 8% in membership last year and a 13% increase in total assets, Centric has truly embodied the spirit of the Thomas H. Scott Award of Excellence. Centric’s commitment to the community is evident. With their $5 million development of the Mid City Retail Center in Monroe, this not only boosts our local economy but also serves as an example of progress and opportunity.

Northern Exposure means celebrating North Louisiana. Northern Exposure means showcasing our great part of the state to the current state administration and legislators. Northern Exposure means economic groups and leaders from Shreveport to Rayville join together to bring awareness, show unity, and promote North Louisiana.
On May 7, 2024, over 250 business leaders, chamber executives, elected officials, and their staff, along with sponsors and others, met at Capital Park Museum in Baton Rouge for Northern Exposure 2024. Daphne Garrett heads up a super team of volunteers from across Northern Louisiana that coordinate and plan Northern Exposure.
Northern Exposure is an annual event coordinated by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce to bring North Louisiana to the state capital during sessions to meet with elected officials and the administration. Northern Exposure showcases the best of North Louisiana, highlighting its economic opportunities, culture, and local businesses. Typically attracting a diverse group of stakeholders, including business leaders and civic representatives, the event serves as both a networking platform and an opportunity to promote North Louisiana as a thriving hub for commerce, innovation, and community development. Northern Exposure has a focus on fostering relationships and sparking new collaborations, and it plays a crucial role in advancing the economic growth of Northeast Louisiana.
All of the Stakeholders believe in Northern Louisiana, and we believe in our delegation. Our delegation fights tirelessly for every business and citizen in our community. We also believe we are stronger together. There are numerous goals with Northern Exposure. The first is to show our local delegations that we support them. Each of our communities works hand in hand with our elected officials to secure funding and pass legislation that makes our communities better. The second goal is to
meet with local elected officials and other elected officials from all over the state to share the vision, passion, and future of our part of the state. Out of sight, out of mind is so true. The more they see us, the more opportunities we have for funding and positive legislation. The third goal is to give our leaders a chance to hear directly from the administration and give them a chance to discuss the policies and programs that impact all of us.

For 38 years, Mid South Extrusion (MSE) has been a pillar of excellence and innovation in the flexible packaging industry. Founded in 1986 as a small blown-film company with just one production line and four employees, MSE has grown into a familyowned industry leader, operating 12 production lines in a 350,000 square-foot facility with more than 230 employees.

Ringing in the Holiday with Style!
What a way to kick off the holiday season. The Monroe Chamber of Commerce 2024 Holiday Gala was a night to remember! It was the perfect way to celebrate the season and our incredible community!

Our venue was decorated in elegant Christmas decor reminiscent of a Hallmark Christmas movie which set the stage of a magical Holiday evening. Party goers were greeted by the Chamber staff and very soon they whisked away to a Winter Wonderland of fun. Robert Wright and his band dazzled everyone with a special blend of music chosen just for the GALA and Auction. An added treat was when Michelli Martin, Communications Director for Drax, jumped on stage to wow the audience with her velvet voice. A favorite every year for the Holiday GALA and Auction is our Signature Drinks sponsored by Mark Kent Anderson and Mid-South Extrusion. This year Cranberry Fizzes, Blueberry Bourbon and our standard Old Fashions delighted our festive revelers. MEETING & BANQUET
The Monroe Chamber of Commerce held its 103rd Annual Banquet on Thursday, March 14th, at The Monroe Civic Center. "It was a night of celebration, appreciation, and recognition," said Roy Heatherly, President and CEO of The Monroe Chamber. Heatherly welcomed over 350 guests and highlighted many of the Chamber successes throughout 2023, including 71 Ribbon Cuttings and a membership drive that generated 363 new or upgraded members. Jay Mulhern (Express Employment Professionals), 2023 Chair and current Immediate Past Chair, called the meeting to order and offered remarks highlighting the great year. Mulhern also thanked the 2023 Board of Directors and the hundreds of volunteers who helped the Chamber fulfill its mission. Mulhern passed the gavel to Jeremy Harrell, 2024 Chairman, in a special ceremony that included eight
past chairs, Including William Smart, Paul Hutcheson, John Landry, George Cummings, David Hampton, and Malcolm Maddox; Harrell reinforced Mulhern's remarks and shared his love for this community. The Carroll High School Air Force Junior ROTC presented the colors, and Kelsea McCrary (Chief Economic and Cultural Development Officer for the City of Monroe) and Her mother, Kathy McCrary, beautifully sang the National Anthem.
Mayor Friday Ellis gave an update on the city and thanked the Chamber for the working relationship the 2 share. Breaux detailed Amazon’s investment in Monroe and offered insight into the Monroe facility.
The highlight of the night was the presentation of the Kitty Degree Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award and The Rambin / Silverstein Memorial Civic Award. Roma Kidd, Executive Director for Arco, won the Kitty Degree award, and William Smart, Executive Director for the Monroe Housing Authority, won the Rambin Silverstein award. Kidd was introduced by Janet Durden and Terry Duke in a video. The two then met Kidd to present her with the award. Since 1981, Roma Kidd has been the Executive Director of ARCO. She is a tireless champion for our community, serving on multiple task forces, committees, and boards to actively implement regulatory guidelines, increase the quality of services,
and other things that have a positive impact on those living with developmental disabilities. William Smart was introduced by Billy Haddad and John Landry. Smart, surrounded by his family, gave an emotional thank you for the impact this award has had on him. William is currently the Executive Director of the Monroe Housing Authority after a long and distinguished career at Brookshires. William is a former chair of The Monroe Chamber of Commerce and serves in leadership roles at his church. Both recipients are servant leaders who represent the spirit of both awards.

There are so many GREAT things going on in our Community. When we look around and see the energy and excitement, we reflect on a quote we once read that says, "If we have seen further, it's because we are standing on the shoulders of giants." Looking back on the history of Monroe, we honor our local giants through the Rambin/Silverstein and Kitty Degree Awards. David Silverstein, Melvin Rambin, and Kitty Degree were game-changing leaders who earned these awards to be named after them. We present these awards annually at The Monroe Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements as a business leader throughout their careers. Kitty Degree was a Real Estate Developer, Civic Leader, and philanthropist. She loved our Community and gave back generously. This year, Roma Kidd was awarded the 2024 Kitty Degree.
Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in Business. The Rambin Silverstein Award is based on a person's contributions to the Community over many years of service, evidence of their leadership ability, and evidence of their personal, professional, and business integrity. David Silverstein and Melvin Rambin were two local giants who lived integrity. William Smart was named the winner of the

A Bright Future - A Great Opportunity
OUR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ARE ON FIRE. They are engaged, excited, and stepping into leadership roles across the Community. Originally launched as a networking organization, The Northeast Louisiana Young Professionals has evolved into so much more. It is an organization with a purpose. NELAYP began in 2012 as a MonroeC hamber of Commerce program with a mission to provide a resource for young professionals through the state’s northeast region to form a network across industries, grow in professional development, and engage deeper in the communities in which they live.
The NELA Young Professionals Chairperson, Patience Talley, has led the group since the Fall of 2021 and is so proud to lead the organization as it impacts lives and creates community impact. “To think this organization has been inspiring and informing young professionals for 10 years is a testament to the value and need of it,” Talley said. “Many of us have climbed our career ladders through the information we’ve learned in these meetings and the relationships we’ve developed.” Talley said many young professionals join the group in an entry-level position but have seen and can attest that young professionals are a catalyst for developing leaders in careers and in the Community. Louisiana Delta Community College is an annual sponsor, while Atmos Energy and EPC are quarterly sponsors. Louisiana Delta Community College Exec. Director: Community & Public Relations Darian Atkins said LDCC believes in the potential of all our citizens and supports as many as possible. On the second Tuesday of each month, NELA Young Professionals meets to share a meal, discuss events around the Community, and listen to a speaker who is able to reinforce the goals of the individual and the organization as a whole. The speakers and topics of discussion range from elected officials to entrepreneurship, career development, understanding non-profit organizations in the Community, and more. Members of Young Professionals represent the region’s diverse workforce; all aren’t under the age of 40. The diversity of the group allows for the true sharing of ideas and innovation in northeast Louisiana.
