Dear Fighting Scots Society Members,
For more than 40 years, I’ve had the privilege of watching Monmouth College student-athletes grow, compete, and succeed. I’ve seen generations of Scots take the field and wear our colors with pride. Through every victory and every challenge, one thing that has always remained constant is the unwavering support of alumni, parents, and friends like you. Your commitment makes it possible for our student-athletes to pursue excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
This past year has been a proud chapter in our Fighting Scots story. We’ve celebrated championships and record-setting performances, but we’ve also witnessed countless moments that don’t always make the headlines: moments of resilience after a tough loss, of leadership shown by a senior captain, and of first-year athletes stepping into new roles. These are the qualities that truly set our athletes apart. With your support, they leave Monmouth not only as stronger competitors, but as leaders who are truly ready to succeed wherever life takes them.
Your generosity strengthens every part of our athletics program. It provides resources that enhance training and facilities, it opens doors to new opportunities for growth, and it fuels the school spirit that makes our community so unique. When you cheer from the stands, attend a Fighting Scots event, or make a gift, you’re doing more than supporting athletics. You’re ensuring our student-athletes know they are part of a proud tradition that matters.
As I reflect on the past four decades, I am reminded that the true legacy of Fighting Scots athletics is not measured only in wins and records, but in the character and confidence of the young people who leave here ready to make their mark on the world. That legacy has been built, and continues to grow, because of the steadfast support of fans like you.
On behalf of our coaches, staff, and especially our student-athletes, thank you for believing in the Fighting Scots and for standing with us every step of the way.

Fighting Scots Society Gifts Matter
Monmouth College is a NCAA Division III school committed to helping the Fighting Scots succeed in the classroom and on the field. Each year, we welcome a new class of talented student-athletes, but one thing that remains season after season is the support from the Fighting Scots Society.
The goal of the Fighting Scots Society is to be “the team behind their team”. Our student-athletes continue to be recognized by the Midwest Conference and set numerous records because of the extra support from this group of loyal Fighting Scots. Gifts to the Fighting Scots Society enable us to support our student-athletes and programs where and when it’s needed most.

Facility Enhancement Highlights
Monmouth College proudly unveiled a $1.6 million renovation to April Zorn Memorial Stadium, home of the Fighting Scots football and outdoor track and field programs. Funded by the State of Illinois Independent Colleges Capital Investment Grant Program, the project began in May 2024 and was completed just in time for Homecoming Weekend.
“It will be a high-performance facility, and our athletes should be excited to play at the facility,” said longtime coach and athletic director Roger Haynes. “We think both are going to look great for recruits and for parents and for fans of the sports.”
The project included a brand-new synthetic turf surface at Bobby Woll Memorial Field, replacing the 2009 installation, and a complete overhaul of the track, which had not been renovated beneath the surface in four decades.
The new track now features a Beynon 300 surface, with layers totaling 12 inches deep. For perspective, the University of Oregon’s famed Hayward Field uses Beynon 1000, the company’s top tier. Monmouth’s upgrade brings the Scots the next-best option—placing the facility among the finest in the Midwest.

Facility Enhancement Highlights
Monmouth College completed a comprehensive renovation of the Fighting Scots softball field this summer, enhancing the playing experience for athletes and improving overall field performance. The project was completed thanks to the Fighting Scots Society and Fighting Scot fans.
Upgrades included laser-level grading of the playing surface, installation of a new in-ground sprinkler system, fresh sod in the outfield, improved infield surface, and landscaping improvements near the leftfield fence, including the removal of overgrown trees.
These improvements will significantly increase the playability of the field. We are excited for our softball players to enjoy an enhanced experience when the season begins this spring.

RG3, Scots Reach Postseason - Published May 06, 2025
Monmouth College senior Raul Guillermo III, known as “RG3,” helped lead the Fighting Scots baseball team to its first Midwest Conference Tournament appearance since 2019. Guillermo capped off a recordbreaking season by tying the game with a late home run against Ripon, sparking the Scots’ postseason berth. Over his career, he set new Monmouth records in home runs, RBIs, and total bases, while also earning First Team All-Conference honors. His standout season, along with strong contributions from teammates, marked a major step forward for the program. To read more visit monmouthcollege.edu/news
You’ve Come a Long Way, Zay - Published April 02, 2025
Isaiah “Zay” Brown’s college basketball debut with Monmouth’s Fighting Scots was nothing short of remarkable. Despite a three-year hiatus from the game due to the pandemic and a challenging transition—taking prep school routes and even attempting to walk on at Ball State—Brown returned to the court and made it count. He not only earned both Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year honors but also led the MWC in rebounds (9.0) and blocks (35), ranked fifth in scoring (18.2 points per game), and set Monmouth freshman records with 473 points and 235 rebounds, including seven double-doubles. His standout performance, highlighted by a 31-point, 19-rebound game that clinched the regular-season title, affirmed that his hard work and perseverance truly paid off. A Deep Dive into the Weight Throw - Published March 12, 2025
Monmouth College sent three top-tier weight throwers—seniors Shane Anderson, Caleb Toberman, and Maddie Boley—to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Rochester, New York. It’s the first time in program history the Scots have qualified three athletes in this event, emphasizing its growing strength in throws. Anderson is ranked second nationally and recently set a school record with a 20.00 m heave; Toberman will be appearing in his third straight indoor nationals despite battling an ankle injury; Boley is the first Monmouth woman to qualify since 2014 and is also competing in the shot put. They’ve all been shaped by veteran coach Brian Woodard, who’s admired for cultivating explosive technique, precision, and resilience—values clearly reflected in his athletes’ achievements and outlook. 2024 M Club Hall of Fame Inductees
Beau Hellman ’03
In 2003, as Monmouth won its third straight Midwest Conference South Division baseball title, the Fighting Scots had the South’s Player of the Year and its Pitcher of the Year. One player earned both those honors – Beau Hellman.
Hellman batted .313 and starred on the mound, posting a 6-1 record and a 2.11 ERA. For that extraordinary double duty, he earned an All-Midwest Region selection.
The versatile Hellman’s biggest contributions to Monmouth’s diamond success came the year before, as he helped the Scots to within one win of the College World Series. He posted a career-best .895 OPS to go with team highs of 46 hits and 33 runs.
Hellman, who came to Monmouth from Marquette High School in Ottawa, Ill., was a first-team All-South pick every year, bookended by selections as a pitcher his freshman and senior seasons. He was also honored as a shortstop and second baseman. Hellman is ranked in the Scots’ career top 10 for runs, assists, games and at-bats.
At the 2013 NCAA outdoor track and field championships, Allison Devor set Monmouth’s hammer throw record at 190 feet, 10 inches – a mark that still stands by a wide margin. Just two inches behind the national champion, it was the second runner-up finish of Devor’s senior year, as she placed second in the weight throw at the NCAA indoor meet. Monmouth had a fifth-place team finish at the latter meet, the highest in program history.
In all, the St. Charles (Ill.) East High School product claimed eight All-American honors, adding two fourths and placing seventh four times.
Devor also holds the Scots’ record in the weight throw (62-2 1/2), an event in which she posted nine of the top 10 marks in school history. Additionally, she was among the Scots’ top 10 performers on both shot put honor rolls and the discus, ranking second in the indoor shot put.
At MWC meets, Devor captured nine titles and was a four-time Most Outstanding Performer.
There wasn’t a Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year award when Samantha Barranco began her Monmouth soccer career, but the Fighting Scots goalkeeper from Highland Park (Ill.) High School surely would’ve won it, in addition to all the other honors she accumulated during her outstanding career.
Barranco burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2010 with the first of her four consecutive first-team All-MWC honors, earning the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. She helped the Scots secure a playoff berth on the season’s final day, making a spectacular save on a penalty kick in the final moments to preserve a 10 victory in a must-win game.
Barranco’s heroics continued, as she earned All-North Region honors her junior and senior seasons and led the Scots to the 2013 MWC title game. In all, the twoyear captain played 6,656 minutes with an .815 save percentage, posting 38 victories and 27 shutouts, all school goalkeeping records. Monmouth made the playoffs in three of her four seasons.
