STRATEGIC PLAN 2026-2031 TO LIVE FULLY

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of education is to prepare young people for future days. The education on offer across the Monkton Family of Schools is rooted in our Christian values and a belief in the inherent worth and potential of every young person, seeking to provide pupils with the means to think critically, communicate effectively, solve complex problems, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them. This is no small goal. Achieving it requires a complete education. Days in school should be packed with time to think quietly and to work collaboratively with peers and experts. They should involve sitting, standing, running, and skipping, punctuated by moments of great triumph and the occasional mishap. Monkton plays a vital role in preparing young people to lead full lives. We are an employer providing purposeful opportunities for all staff, a source of wholehearted support and community for our parents, an active partner in and around Bath, and a shrewd, thoughtful steward of our resources, ensuring this experience endures for generations to come. As Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” A good life is a full life, and a good school is committed to helping its community “to live fully”.

Five Fundamental Questions That is our purpose, leading us to five fundamental questions for the years ahead: 1. How does our educational experience prepare all pupils for an unknown future, while remaining grounded in strong character and core values? 2. How do we optimise our resources of time, space, and routines to support wellbeing and enhance outcomes for pupils and staff? 3. How do we ensure every member of our interconnected community feels genuinely valued and supported? 4. How do we innovate our commercial and operational models, and navigate emerging technologies like AI, to secure long-term financial resilience? 5. How do we sharpen Monkton’s story of environmental stewardship and community service and leadership to inspire the next generation of families? This vision and strategy seeks to address these questions head-on.

Teaching and Learning Invest in our classroom practice to ensure we are maximising every opportunity to learn for all of our pupils. We want everybody to learn, to understand their learning and to see their progress in every lesson. Conduct a deep review of our weekday and weekend routines to ensure that the time allocated maximises opportunities for pupils in a well balanced and sustainable way. Reimagine our teaching and learning strategies, specifically independent tasks, to integrate AI-literacy and cultivate the essential skills required for modern life and work.

Co-Curriculum Ensure the range and depth of our activities meet the needs and aspirations of our broad and complex pupil body and the skills of our teachers, coaches and tutors. A programme that is rich, broad and deep. Develop three tiers of activities at Monkton Senior School that build on the strengths and provision at Monkton Pep School and All Hallows School: Height - Performance & Signature Breadth - Core Provision Depth - Community & Personal

Character Embed our rigorous, peer-led coaching culture across all schools to foster agency and professional growth for staff. For pupils, this accelerates their metacognitive awareness and self-regulation, enhancing their ability to independently navigate their own studies. By expanding our opportunities for service, we will cultivate moral character, while equipping pupils with the vital communication and adaptive problem-solving skills required to impact their future communities.

Futures Ensure pupils navigate a seamless journey from Year 7 to 13, progressing from broad career exploration to active professional networking and destination planning. Evolve our Futures provision to ensure all pupils can confidently articulate their character, skills, and experience across both traditional and AI-driven selection processes.

Technology Build expert digital strategy groups to navigate the digital landscape maximising the educational and operational benefits of technological innovation while maintaining a robust, proactive approach to digital safety and well-being.
